Eyewitnesses, however, suggested the actual death toll could be higher. One local resident, Subhash Soni, recounted the horrifying scene, saying the driver was speeding and appeared to lose control. “My brother-in-law’s legs were severed in the accident. He was rushed to Geetanjali Hospital,” he said. DCP Krishna Lalchandani confirmed that the driver was heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash. "He lost control under the influence. A medical examination is underway," the DCP said.&nbsp;In response, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered prompt medical assistance for the injured and directed top state officials to visit Indore for a detailed assessment. He also called for an initial investigation into how a heavy vehicle managed to enter city limits before 11pm, which is generally restricted. Yadav assured the public that all victims would receive proper care and that the state government would offer full support to those affected. He also stressed that no negligence would be tolerated in the treatment process.

The man, Sahil Soni, was arrested after the incident was allegedly captured on CCTV footage.&nbsp;

Indore Additional DCP Zone-1 Alok Sharma said that the incident occurred on Tuesday and was reportedly recorded on CCTV.

The accused is originally from Sagar and he allegedly lured the woman to a secluded area and raped her.&nbsp;

“Yesterday we got information that an unidentified woman who was mentally challenged was raped. A complaint was registered at a local police station, following which an FIR was registered in connection with the case,” Sharma said.

The Additional DCP&nbsp;said that the police were alerted by a child who spotted a naked woman wandering in Neelkanth Colony around 3:45 am (local time)&nbsp;on Tuesday, News18 reported.&nbsp;

Sharma added that a patrolling sub-inspector reached the spot and took the woman to MY Hospital in an ambulance.&nbsp;

He said that Sonu was arrested while he was wearing the same clothes as spotted in the CCTV footage.&nbsp;

The suspect, Sonu, was produced before a local court on Wednesday (Oct 23)&nbsp;and was remanded in judicial custody.

According to the investigation, the woman had "walked for about half a kilometre without clothes after being assaulted", a police officer said.&nbsp;

Later, during the investigation,&nbsp;Sonu confessed to being under the influence of drugs on Monday evening. He further said that when he tried to leave, the woman, followed him.&nbsp;

Woman with mental illness found roaming semi-naked in Indore, man arrested for raping her

At least&nbsp;35 people have been killed after the roof of a stepwell collapsed at a temple in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on Thursday (March 30).&nbsp;The stepwell roof at the Beleshwar Mahadev temple could not carry&nbsp;the weight of a large crowd.

As per initial reports, more than 30 people fell into the stepwell of the Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple&nbsp;resulting in a serious accident.&nbsp;

"Total of 35 people died, one missing and 14 people have been rescued. Two people returned home safely after getting treatment. The search operation to trace persons reported missing is underway," Indore Collector Ilayaraja T said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

"The 18 hours long rescue operation started at around 12:30 on Thursday, and is still ongoing," he added.

The incident happened on the day of Ram Navami, an auspicious day as per the&nbsp;Hindu calendar&nbsp;when worshippers throng the temple, reported Zee News.

The temple is situated in Sneh Nagar, one of Indore's oldest residential neighbourhoods, and is run by a private trust. The tragedy might have been avoided had the Indore Municipal Corporation responded to local complaints, reported NDTV.
