<p>Indians want to spend more time and money on international and domestic travel this year, says the latest research travel report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>ACKO, India’s tech-first insurance company, released&nbsp;Travel Index 2023, which&nbsp;shows that now travellers are more concerned about flexibility and convenience and are ready to spend more for the experience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report surveyed 1,000 respondents across seven major Indian cities between the ages of 24 and 45 and identified key patterns of travel consideration among Indians.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The survey shows that 60 per cent&nbsp;of Indians are planning international trips this year. Further, around 48 per cent&nbsp;of Indians will be allocating an increased budget for their travel in the coming year and 37 per cent&nbsp;will be increasing the duration of the trip.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report further highlights that approximately 71 per cent&nbsp;of respondents are ready to spend Rs 1-6 lakh on their international trips, while domestic travellers would like to spend up to Rs 1 lakh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The survey also shows how Indian travellers understand the importance of travel insurance and know what to expect from a policy. 67 per cent&nbsp;of respondents say that travel insurance is mandatory while planning their trip. Only 13 per cent&nbsp;said they don’t want to take out a travel insurance policy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking about the survey, Brijesh Unnithan, SVP, of Embedded Insurance said, “We wanted to understand how Indians plan to travel in 2023 and how their travel preferences have changed over the past couple of years. Travellers are now more conscious about their well-being on a trip and are demanding customised insurance products that match their needs and expectations.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Interestingly, the survey also highlighted the fact that 36 per cent&nbsp;of Indians want to go on a trip with their friends, 35 per cent&nbsp;with their spouse or partner and only 14 per cent&nbsp;want to take a solo trip. Lastly, four per cent&nbsp;also like to travel with their pets.&nbsp;</p>

The industry faced unprecedented economic challenges because of the temporary drop in business activities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Governments around the world launched mass vaccine programmes to fight the Covid virus. As the fear of Covid started to subside, people began getting back to normal life. Slowly and gradually, global tourism is bouncing back, with more and more people spending time on travel. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>When it comes to India, the travel industry also picked up a pace as according to the Amex Trendex, which is a trend report from American Express, consumers celebrated, shopped, and travelled more thoughtfully this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report, published in October, stated that Covid variants last year disrupted the long-awaited plans of many consumers. More than half (52%) of consumers had plans cancelled last holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report mentioned that 8 in 10 (87%) Indian consumers agree that they are thinking about starting or restarting the tradition of travelling during the holiday season because they want to spend more quality time with loved ones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian consumers also gave thought to support the local economy as 6-in-10 respondents are planning on spending more at small businesses this holiday season compared to 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sanjay Khanna, the CEO of American Express Banking Corp India, said, "We see two strong shifts in the Indian consumer’s spending patterns this holiday season. One, there is higher indulgence in experiences they would like to share with family and friends and two, there is a shift towards more thoughtful gifting like sustainable products from local brands, thereby supporting smaller entrepreneurs or local shop owners."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report mentioned that highest amongst all the surveyed countries, 75% of Indian respondents want to plan a holiday event for family and/or friends this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It further mentioned that 82% of Indian adults and 83% of Indian GenZers and Millennials are planning to celebrate the holiday season with family. Around 67% of Indian respondents want to attend cultural events including holidays, parades, and festivals this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also mentioned that online shopping, digital payments and earning while spending is quite popular with Indian consumers as 9 out of 10 agree that they are more likely to shop online if free shipping and free returns are given as an option. The report mentioned that around 88% agree that they want to earn credit card rewards for online purchases this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

"All the travellers arriving from and transiting through flights originating in the UK, Europe or the Middle East shall be mandatorily be subjected to self-paid confirmatory molecular tests on arrival at the Indian airport's concerned point of the entry," the ministry added. "We are taking all precautions and continue undaunted with our efforts against COVID19," India's civil aviation minister said. According to the government, the new SOPs will come into effect for international passengers arriving in India from 23:59 hrs on 22 Feb 2021.

<p>However, travel to India comes with riders with health workers allowed to enter the country subject to a letter of invitation from a recognized healthcare facility.</p>

<p>Air India said today that it would be operating 75 flights to select destinations in the USA and Canada from June 9 to 30.</p>

<p>Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan today urged the government to operate flights to Bhubaneswar from the Gulf, UK and Sri Lanka to bring back the people of Odisha stranded there due to the coronavirus crisis.</p>

<p>Indian authorities had opened domestic flight services from May 25.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a repatriation flight carrying 180 Indians stranded in Dubai arrived in Coimbatore today with the majority of passengers from Tamil Nadu.</p>

<p>The passengers were tested for coronavirus and sent then for institutional quarantine for one week.</p>
