Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, Heeraben Modi, passed away on Friday morning, two days after she was admitted to a hospital in the western Gujarat state. She was 100 years old.

She was admitted to&nbsp;Ahmedabad’s UN Mehta Hospital. The prime minister shared the news on Twitter, saying, “A glorious century rests at the feet of God.”

Sharing her picture, Modi tweeted, “In Maa I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”

Heeraben Modi turned 100 on June 18 this year. The prime minister often meets his mother. Recently, he met her&nbsp;on December 4, seeking blessings ahead of the second and the final phase of voting in the Gujarat assembly elections.&nbsp;

She was living&nbsp;with her youngest son Pankaj, a retired Gujarat government officer, at Raysan area of Gandhinagar&nbsp;district.

A visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US later this month is likely to depend on the finality over hosting of the first in-person summit of the Quad leaders by the Biden administration, people familiar with the development said on Saturday.

The tentative schedule explored for the visit was between September 22-27 and the preparations were focused on three segments -- Modi's address at the UN General Assembly in New York, participation at the proposed Quad summit in Washington and a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden, they said.

However, the sudden decision by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to step down by the end of September triggered uncertainty over the US hosting of the in-person Quad summit as

Tokyo is learnt to have requested for a hybrid format for the talks.

The people cited above said there was no final decision yet on the proposed visit to the US by Modi in view of the uncertainty over the holding of the Quad summit among the leaders of the US, India, Japan and Australia in Washington.

Suga, who became prime minister of Japan a year ago after Shinzo Abe stepped down, announced on Friday that he will not seek re-election as leader of the Liberal Democrat Party (LDP) at the end of September.

His announcement and the political turmoil in Tokyo have also thrown into doubt the holding of the in-person India-Japan summit for the third consecutive year.

The annual summit between Modi and his then Japanese counterpart Abe was cancelled in December 2019 in Guwahati in the wake of massive protests rocking the Assam city over the amended citizenship law.

In 2020, the summit could not be held due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The people cited above said India and the US held a series of meetings as part of preparations for Modi's visit to the US, which if it takes place, will be the first one after Biden took charge of the US in January.

It is learnt that the issue figured during Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla's recent meetings in Washington.

The Biden administration has put cooperation with India a key aspect of its overall foreign policy priorities on the Indo-Pacific, a region that has witnessed growing Chinese military assertiveness.

The US has been looking at convening the in-person summit of the leaders of Quad to boost practical cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region as well as to send a strong signal about Washington's commitment to the grouping.

In March, President Biden hosted the first-ever summit of the Quad leaders in the virtual format that vowed to strive for an Indo-Pacific region that is free, open, inclusive, anchored by democratic values, and unconstrained by coercion, sending an apparent message to China.

The last time Modi visited the US was in September 2019 when he and then US President Donald Trump addressed the Howdy Modi event in Houston.

If Modi's visit takes place, then it could signal a new phase in the two-way strategic engagement between India and the US.

The Afghan crisis as well as developments in the Indo-Pacific region could be the major focus areas for discussion between the two sides. US Secretary of state Antony Blinken paid a two-day visit to India in July. Before that, US Defence Secretary Lloyd J Austin had paid a three-day visit to New Delhi in March.&nbsp;

We 'strongly support' India's NSG bid: US President Obama

Chief minister of India&#39;s Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday insisted that people give her a chance to address the crisis in the state.&nbsp; 
 
&ldquo;I appeal to all those protesting in the streets. You may be angry with me, I may be angry with you. But please give me one chance to address your concerns and aspirations,&rdquo; she said. 
 
After her 45-minute-meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, Mehbooba told DNA that she had outlined a three-pronged action during the meeting. 
 
It included the involvement of separatists and Pakistan in a substantive dialogue. But she refused to divulge details. 
 
Mehbooba said that good governance in her state was linked to peaceful relations between India and Pakistan. &ldquo;How can you govern and undertake development-related work when there are tensions?&rdquo; she said. 
 
On this front, she blamed Islamabad for not responding to Modi&rsquo;s peace overtures. 
 
&quot;PM Modi reached out to Pakistan, went to Lahore, but then Pathankot happened. Home minister Rajnath Singh also went to Islamabad. Unfortunately, Pakistan has repeatedly given up the chances to talk and resolve the issue of violence in Kashmir. Now, it is again time for Pakistan (to respond),&quot; she said. 
 
Only Modi can revive the process, she said. Mehbooba, however, skirted questions on the PM&rsquo;s recent pronouncements on Balochistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir (PoK). 
 
Fifty seven-year-old Mehbooba, mother of two and one of the few women politicians from Kashmir, said she asked Modi to put in place an institutionalised mechanism to address the issue. &ldquo;I asked for reviving the reconciliation and resolution process, which was initiated by the then NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee between 2002 and 2005,&rdquo; she said. 
 
It was the brushing of issues under the carpet, as in 2008 and 2010, that has resulted in the current unrest, Mehbooba said. &ldquo;The country&rsquo;s political leadership must commit itself to address all dimensions of the problem in a manner that balances and promotes enduring political and economic stability in the state and the region,&rdquo; she said. 
 
She expressed confidence that the escalating tensions would not derail the scheduled South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit and the PM&rsquo;s proposed visit to Islamabad. 
 
She also appealed to all political parties to help resolve the problems and not make the state a discussion point during their election campaigns. An &ldquo;all-party delegation will visit the state soon to reach out to the people,&rdquo; she said. 
 
Mehbooba, who single-handedly built the edifice of People&rsquo;s Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge the monopoly of mainstream National Conference (NC) said the Agenda of Alliance enacted between her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the Prime Minister has a commitment to normalise the relationship with Pakistan.
