Considering grand changes happening within the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), with Shah winning the race to head the apex body and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi assumed to replace Shah as ACC head, the return of this intercontinental competition is on the cards.

Per the report in the Cricbuzz, Shah, BCCI secretary, showed interest in bringing this competition back to the international calendar a couple of years ago; however, plenty of work needs to be done to make this a reality.&nbsp;

"We have tried to revive the Afro-Asia Cup. Jay was on board, and Mahinda Vallipuram (head of Malaysia Cricket and current ICC director) actively participated in the discussions," Sumod Damodar, a veteran ICC hand, said in a chat with Cricbuzz.&nbsp;

Damodar, Botswana Cricket head, also contesting for a place in the CEC from Associate Nations, was one of those involved to stage this competition nearly two decades ago.

Starting in 2005, the first of the two contested editions took place in Centurion and Durban, while Bengaluru and Chennai in India staged the second edition two years later in 2007. As initially planned for three editions, the deal broke due to fallout with the broadcasters.

Damodar also revealed its business model, where 80 per cent of the revenue generated from this tournament would go to the African continent, with the remaining sum distributed among the cash-rich Asian board.&nbsp;

However, per the new plan discussed, the Asian and African cricket boards aim to engage at multiple levels, with matches between the continents to be played in three stages - development (primarily at the under-19 level, seen as an investment), emerging, and pinnacle levels, with the latter involving current international players.

"That is the plan. We have yet to decide on the frequency - whether it will be annual or biennial. Much will depend on the calendar, the Future Tours Programme (FTP), and the international commitments of the players," Damodar continued.

"Looking at the situation in Pakistan, I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan and Pakistan should think about it and then the ICC will make its decision and most likely, it will be a hybrid model, it will played in Dubai," Kaneria had said.

India last travelled to Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup. The two countries have been at loggerheads since then due to politically charged environment.

India had also refused to travel to Pakistan last year for Asia Cup and the tournament was played in a hybrid model with India's matches scheduled in Sri Lanka.

"The PCB now has done what was required of it as hosts of the Champions Trophy. It has submitted the draft schedule and format for the event and also submitted budget for the event,” reported PTI citing a PCB source.

Both India and Pakistan face each other in the ICC and Asian tournaments only and do not play in bilateral series due to political tensions between them.&nbsp;

The Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to be played from February 19-March 9 next year with all of India's matches to be hosted in Lahore as per draft schedule.

Saad Ahmed, a 24-year-old YouTuber, was shot dead by a security guard in the Serena mobile market in Karachi on June 4. According to eyewitnesses, the YouTuber was in conversation with the shopkeepers and the local public when the incident took place. During this conversation, Ahmed approached Gul Hassan, a security person in the famous Karachi market. During their chat, the flow of the conversation escalated to such an extent that Gul shot Ahmed with his service pistol.

He was quickly rushed to a hospital by the people around him but he succumbed to his injuries. CCTV footage indicated that Ahmed was shot in the shoulder and was bleeding profusely.

Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of rescue teams, took Ahmed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced ‘dead on arrival’.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at the Taimuria Police Station after a complaint was filed by the victim’s father, Mukhtiar Ahmed. The FIR names the security guard, the security agency and the mobile market authority that have&nbsp;been accused of negligence despite prior permission for the video shoot.

The local police are understood to have taken appropriate action once the complaint was filed. The security person was detained and his weapon was confiscated with an inquiry underway. It is being reported that certain gestures by Ahmed provoked Gul who then&nbsp;shot the YouTuber.
