The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) via email about&nbsp;the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of&nbsp;not sending its cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February 2025. The ICC forwarded the communication from BCCI which says that the Government of India has not given permission to its cricket team to travel to Pakistan. On the part of the Pakistani government, top sources say that Islamabad may not allow PCB to participate in any ICC event (2024-2031) if India does not participate in the ICC Champions Trophy or the Champions Trophy can be proposed to be moved out from Pakistan.

The chances of the latter happening are dim given that there can be graver consequences for hosts Pakistan. Such a step of withdrawing from playing India would hurt both&nbsp;because the 2025 Women's World Cup, the 2026 Asia Cup and the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup are scheduled to be hosted by the latter.

“We travelled to India in 2023 despite the hostility and volatile environment, it was under the understanding that if we went to India for the World Cup, India would come to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Nothing was opposed then but now these excuses don’t hold ground,”&nbsp;remarked a&nbsp;PCB official. “We also sent our team to India in 2016, and had done the hybrid format of the Asia Cup to accommodate India,”&nbsp;added the official.

PCB is set to write&nbsp;to the ICC, where it will cite previous examples of when a team forfeits the match, the points are given to the opponent. A suggestion will also be put forward formally to have the event sans Team India, as WION understands as per discussions with PCB and government officials.

Pakistan was given the hosting rights for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2021. They are also the defending champions, having beaten India by a whopping 180 runs in the 2017 edition, at The Oval, London, to clinch the trophy before the tournament was discontinued.

PCB is unrelenting and unsparing not to agree on the hybrid model this time. They are also in the process of deciding not to play against India at any level across any format anywhere in the world. This will surely be a predicament for the ICC. The ratings of an India-Pakistan match are brilliant. In ICC World Cup 2023, the India-Pakistan tie attracted 173 million audience on broadcast and 225 million on digital platforms (collectively 398 million).

There have been at least four ICC Board or Executive Committee Meetings in the last six months and never even the word of India not coming to Pakistan was mentioned, as per a PCB&nbsp;official. “Never any discussion on the hybrid model was ever brought on the table”. If Pakistan takes a strong stance, then the ICC’s sponsors can retract their commitments.&nbsp;

Demographically 1.639 billion probable viewership comes from only India and Pakistan, which is almost 40% of the world’s total cricket viewers. The India-Pakistan match is of significant importance for the broadcasters and sponsors in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, such was the format based on team ratings that India and Pakistan were placed in different groups. However, pressured by the stakeholders, the roster was changed and the two teams were placed in the same group.

PCB officials have stated that the board has gone out of its way by exhausting almost USD 18 million in&nbsp;stadium upgradation&nbsp;and even offered India to play all their matches at Lahore, also allowing them to travel to Chandigarh or Amritsar after every game. In addition, it has offered assurances to facilitate visa issuance for their spectators.

The ICC security team has travelled to Pakistan and on the part of the government, it has recently hosted the English, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Notably, India last toured Pakistan in 2008 to play the Asia Cup.

CT 2025 row: Pakistan government tells PCB to not play India following BCCI's withdrawal

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez says he is waiting for a strong and surprise response from the government and the PCB on Team India’s travel stance on Champions Trophy 2025. A day after the ICC informed Pakistan of BCCI’s final decision not to send their team across the border for the eight-team tournament, citing security concerns, Hafeez took to social media to share his thoughts.

Hafeez wrote on X that it was a daydream to think that India would travel to Pakistan for the coveted tournament, adding that Pakistan is a ‘safe’ country to visit and play cricket in.&nbsp;

Hafeez continued by saying despite Pakistan hosting every country since cricket resumed following a decade-long ban over a terrorist attack on the touring Sri Lankan Team in 2009, for a certain someone, the country remains unsafe.

“It was a day dream that India will come to Pakistan to play #ChampionsTrophy2025. Pakistan is safe &amp; ready to host the event. Pakistan hosting all cricket nations at home but somehow not *secure* for India 😇😇😇. Waiting for strong &amp; surprised response from government &amp; PCB,” Hafeez wrote on X.

Mohammad Hafeez wants Pakistan to give ‘strong response’ on India’s Champions Trophy no travel stance

The ICC officially wrote to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday (Nov 11), informing them of BCCI’s stance of not sending the Indian Team across the border for the Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled for early next year. The Indian Cricket Board informed the ICC of sticking to their final call to not send their team to Pakistan for the eight-team tournament, with the PCB referring the matter to the Pakistan government.

In response to the Indian government and BCCI’s stern stance, the PCB mulls boycotting playing India at all levels worldwide.

Due to tense political relations, India and Pakistan haven’t played&nbsp;any bilateral games&nbsp;since 2012/13, when Pakistan last visited India for a white-ball series. The two Asian giants, however, have faced off in ICC events and the Asia Cup tournaments since.&nbsp;

While the BCCI insisted on bringing in a neutral venue to host all India matches, reports from Pakistan suggest that the PCB is unwilling to agree to the hybrid model; in their response, the PCB is preparing to boycott playing India across tournaments irrespective of FTP commitments.

"I discussed this with them and my team, and our stance is clear: they need to give us in writing any objections they may have. Until now, no discussion of the hybrid model has happened, nor are we prepared to accept one. The Indian media are reporting it, but no formal communication has reached the PCB," board chairman Naqvi said on Friday.

ICC informs Pakistan of no India presence at Champions Trophy; PCB to boycott playing Men in Blue in response

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has dismissed any reports of India-Pakistan cricket talks resuming following foreign minister S Jaishankar’s recent visit to Islamabad with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 looming.

“Whether any conversation regarding cricket happened or not, I would say nothing of that sort happened. And the reports that you saw were not accurate,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

Given the Indian government will have the final say in deciding the team’s status of travelling to Pakistan, the BCCI and PCB cannot confirm anything yet.&nbsp;

The PCB has reportedly written to the BCCI, offering assistance should the Men in Blue decide against staying in Pakistan, citing security reasons, and return to India after their scheduled matches – with Chandigarh and New Delhi as options. An unnamed PCB official has confirmed this development, citing nearly a week-long gap between India’s final two games.

Meanwhile, per the proposed schedule shared with all stakeholders, including the eight participating teams, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi are zeroed in as the final venues, with the PCB scheduling all of India's games in Lahore. The city is close to the Indian border, making it easier for the fans to travel across for India’s matches against Bangladesh (February 20), Pakistan (February 23) and March 2 (New Zealand).

<h2>Changes to the schedule</h2>

As first put out by Cricbuzz, a few developments have emerged regarding the schedule, with local reports claiming that the broadcaster has requested the ICC to relocate one India game, especially the India-New Zealand match. The PCB provided Rawalpindi as an alternative.

However, the ICC officials and the broadcaster have denied any knowledge of such a request.&nbsp;

Besides, the ICC and PCB have chalked out a contingency plan of staging India’s matches outside of Pakistan should the BCCI deny permission to travel.

On the other hand, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) bosses are confident of&nbsp;India, Pakistan and the ICC coming to the same page over this issue.&nbsp;

"There are lots of different alternatives and contingencies available if that doesn't happen. I wouldn't have thought (it would be played without India), because if you play the Champions Trophy without India the broadcast rights aren't there, and we need to protect them," Reuters quoted ECB Chair Richard Thomson as saying.

Has Jaishankar's recent visit revived talks of India travelling to Pakistan for Champions Trophy? MEA responds

England Cricket Board (ECB) chief executive Richard Gould and chairman Richard Thompson say that the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy without India will not be in cricket's interest. The statement comes as India are yet to answer on their participation in the ICC event which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in February-March next year.

"It would not be in cricket's interests for India not to be playing in the Champions Trophy," Thompson said as reported by cricket news website ESPNCricinfo.&nbsp;

"It's interesting, with Jay Shah - the former secretary of the BCCI and now chair of the ICC - [who] is going to have a big role to play in that. There's geopolitics, and then there's cricketing geopolitics. I think they'll find a way. They have to find a way," he added.

India and Pakistan do not play bilateral cricket due to political tensions between the governments of two countries. Last year, India refused to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup and the tournament was eventually scheduled in the hybrid model with Sri Lanka hosting all of India's matches including the final.

Pakistan, however, did travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup later in the year and is expecting India to travel for the Champions Trophy next year.&nbsp;

"If you play the Champions Trophy without India, or Pakistan, the broadcast rights aren't there, and we need to protect them," Gould said.

"They [Pakistan] are the host nation. We've seen the developments going on, and we're all waiting to understand whether India are going to travel. That's the key. We think there are some discussions and relationships where they need to be. I know Pakistan are expecting India to travel. There are lots of different alternatives and contingencies available if that doesn't happen," he added.

As of now, Pakistan has marked Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore as the venues of the tournament with all of India's matches being played in Lahore.

'They'll find a way,' says ECB chair on India travelling to Pakistan for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refuted the reports claiming&nbsp;a change in the venue of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in case India qualifies for the title match. Pakistan are scheduled to host the ICC tournament in February-March next year with India's participation under clouds given the political tensions between the neighbouring countries.

“Despite the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, the PCB remains steadfast in its stance to ensure a successful and uninterrupted tournament,” clarified the PCB in a statement as reported by Pakistan's local DunyaNews.

"There is absolutely no truth to the reports suggesting that the Champions Trophy final could be moved outside Pakistan. We are working diligently to ensure that all preparations for the tournament are on track, and we are confident that Pakistan will be able to host a memorable event," it further added in response to a report published in the Telegraph UK.

The report had suggested that the final could be moved to Dubai, UAE from Lahore if India qualifies and the relocation of the semi-final was also under consideration.

India and Pakistan do not play bilateral cricket given the animosity between the two nations and only face each other in the ICC tournaments.

Last year, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the regional Asia Cup and eventually, its matches were held in Sri Lanka. Pakistan, however, had travelled to India soon after for the ODI World Cup 2023.

As per the draft schedule, the PCB has earmarked Lahore as the venue for all of India's matches including the final and semi-final, should India qualify.

Recently, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi also expressed confidence in India travelling to Pakistan for the tournament.

In the last Champions Trophy, which was held back in 2017 in England, Pakistan beat India in the final to lift their second-ever ICC silverware in the 50-over format.

It’s time for another chapter in the India vs Pakistan rivalry in the Women’s T20 World Cup as both teams face off in the marquee clash on Super Sunday (Oct 6). While Pakistan enters this contest after a 31-run win over Sri Lanka in their opener, India is on the back foot after losing their first game to New Zealand by 58 runs. Here is the match preview and result prediction for the India vs Pakistan match in the Women’s T20 WC.

<h2>Match Preview –</h2>

India holds an upper hand against their arch-rivals Pakistan in this competition, having won five out of seven times, with Pakistan last beating them eight years ago in 2016. Even considering the overall tally in the T20Is, India stands tall with 12 wins in 15 contested matches to date.

However, a poor start to the tournament means the Indian women’s team needs to pull up their socks and return to winning ways against Pakistan. Without looking deep into their result against the White Ferns, India had a few positives from which to gain confidence.

While bowling remains India’s best bet against Pakistan, considering the variety of options, mainly in the spin department, their batting needs to step on the day when it matters the most. The onus would again fall on India’s top four to provide the best possible start, with Captain Harmanpreet Kaur holding the key at a new batting position at number three.

On the other hand, Pakistan would keep a close tab on seamer Diana Baig’s injury status, whose selection would be a late call on Sunday. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal will hog all the limelight as she leads the wicket-taking chart among all bowlers this year, with 24 wickets from 15 contested games.

Even in the side’s opener against the Asian champions Sri Lanka, Baig picked up three for 17 while defending a low total.

<h3>Result Prediction –</h3>

Knowing India’s back is against the wall, and the only way they can cruise ahead is by winning against Pakistan, they’d be the favourites in Sunday’s mega clash.

<h3>What to expect?</h3>

Considering it’s an afternoon game (3:30 PM IST start), the temperature would be around mid-30, with the one winning the toss would likely bowl first.

Predicted Playing XIs –

Indian Women - Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Pooja Vastrakar, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Sobhana and Renuka Thakur

Pakistan Women - Mubeena Ali (wk), Gull Feroza, Sidra Amin, Omaima Sohail, Nida Dar, Fatima Sana (C), Tuba Hassan, Aliya Riaz, Syeda Aroob Shah, Nashra Sandhu and Sadia Iqbal

Women's T20 World Cup, IND vs PAK Live Streaming: When & how to watch India vs Pakistan Live on TV

During India's tour of Pakistan in 2004, the visitors played three Tests with the series opener in Multan. While the match is remembered for Virender Sehwag becoming the first-ever Indian triple centurion, who led India to an innings and 52-run win, stand-in captain Rahul Dravid also made heads turn with his shocking declaration call when India were 675 for 5, on the second day, after opting to bat first. His decision left Sachin Tendulkar stranded at 194*, which stunned many. Recently, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra -- who was part of the Indian Test team during the 2004 trip to Pakistan -- recalled Master Blaster Tendulkar's reaction post the shocking declaration.&nbsp;

Speaking on YouTube channel 2 Sloggers, Chopra said, "I was in the dressing room, but I wasn't part of that conversation. To be very honest, I didn't even try to get into it because I was too young. Yes, paaji wasn't happy that day. I think I saw him unhappy for the first time. I never saw him lose temper, and he didn't exactly lose temper that day but he was visibly unhappy. Something wasn't right."

Chopra further opined, "Rahul did call, but Dada (Ganguly) was part of the dressing room that day too. He wasn't playing in that game, but he was in dressing room and I'm sure he was part of the think-tank. It wasn't the captain's decision alone. After the game, Rahul did say that he wouldn't have declared had he known the match would end within 4 days."

He added, "With Rahul, it is possible that in heat of the moment, you agree or disagree. But you don't doubt his decision. You know that even if he was at a similar position, he would've taken the same decision."

India were without regular captain for the three-match Test series opener versus arch-rivals Pakistan. However, they stormed past Pakistan after posting a mammoth first-innings total. In reply, Pakistan 407 and were dismissed for 216, after following-on, to lose the clash convincingly.

Eventually, India also won the series 2-1, post their 3-2 ODI series win early in the tour.

India and Pakistan might not have played bilateral cricket for over a decade, but if the latest reports are to be believed, they might play together in the same team. Yes, you read it right.&nbsp;

For cricket fans worldwide, watching ace players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah play in the same team alongside Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi would be a dream. Jay Shah, the new ICC chairman, is said to be bringing back the now-defunct Afro-Asia Cup. &nbsp;

Last played in 2007, the Afro-Asia Cup, first thought of by Jagmohan Dalmiya and Percy Sonn, could pave its way back; however, not so soon.

Considering grand changes happening within the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), with Shah winning the race to head the apex body and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi assumed to replace Shah as ACC head, the return of this intercontinental competition is on the cards.

Per the report in the Cricbuzz, Shah, BCCI secretary, showed interest in bringing this competition back to the international calendar a couple of years ago; however, plenty of work needs to be done to make this a reality.&nbsp;

"We have tried to revive the Afro-Asia Cup. Jay was on board, and Mahinda Vallipuram (head of Malaysia Cricket and current ICC director) actively participated in the discussions," Sumod Damodar, a veteran ICC hand, said in a chat with Cricbuzz.&nbsp;

Damodar, Botswana Cricket head, also contesting for a place in the CEC from Associate Nations, was one of those involved to stage this competition nearly two decades ago.

<h2>The beginning of Afro-Asia Cup</h2>

Starting in 2005, the first of the two contested editions took place in Centurion and Durban, while Bengaluru and Chennai in India staged the second edition two years later in 2007. As initially planned for three editions, the deal broke due to fallout with the broadcasters.

Damodar also revealed its business model, where 80 per cent of the revenue generated from this tournament would go to the African continent, with the remaining sum distributed among the cash-rich Asian board.&nbsp;

However, per the new plan discussed, the Asian and African cricket boards aim to engage at multiple levels, with matches between the continents to be played in three stages - development (primarily at the under-19 level, seen as an investment), emerging, and pinnacle levels, with the latter involving current international players.

"That is the plan. We have yet to decide on the frequency - whether it will be annual or biennial. Much will depend on the calendar, the Future Tours Programme (FTP), and the international commitments of the players," Damodar continued.

Pakistan are scheduled to host the ICC tournament from February 19 to March 9 next year - their first ICC tournament since jointly hosting ICC World Cup 1996 with India and Sri Lanka.

"What they say is what they think is right while what we say is our point of view. I feel the security concerns are always there and if the security of the players is not ensured there then I don't think that the team should go there," said Singh in a interview to Sports Tak.

"If they say that the teams will get full security and there is no hassle then it's on the government to think and make decisions because in the end, it's not just about cricketing matters and the issue goes beyond. As a cricketer, I can say if you wish to play cricket, play cricket but the security concern is always there and players should not go there until the security is guaranteed," he added.

Recently, former Pak spinner Danish Kaneria also expressed concern on security of Indian team if they travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

"Looking at the situation in Pakistan, I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan and Pakistan should think about it and then the ICC will make its decision and most likely, it will be a hybrid model, it will played in Dubai," Kaneria had said.

India last travelled to Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup. The two countries have been at loggerheads since then due to politically charged environment.

India had also refused to travel to Pakistan last year for Asia Cup and the tournament was played in a hybrid model with India's matches scheduled in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan, however, travelled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023 right after the continental tournament.

Champions Trophy 2025: 'Security is guaranteed...,' Harbhajan Singh on India travelling to Pakistan

Pakistan speedster Naseem Shah has opened up on his team’s defeat to India at the T20 World Cup in June as he was left speechless. Speaking on Tuesday (Aug 20) ahead of Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh, Naseem opened up on the defeat to India where his side was in the driving seat until a late collapse cost them the two points and ultimately a place in the Super 8. After the defeat, the entire Pakistan squad along with Naseem were questioned by the fans for their poor mentality.

<h2>Naseen opens up on defeat to India</h2>

"Though I was not being targeted by the fans or the media, one cannot be satisfied and say I did my bit after your team loses. I am a person who wants to win. I get disappointed even when I lose while playing at home or in my street. I play to win and the World Cup exit pained me a lot," the tearaway fast bowler said Cricbuzz in an interview.

"People come up to me in restaurants and ask me why we lost. Even my relatives have asked about it. I understand their sentiments are driven by social media and, as a player, all I can do is listen to them," he further added.

Pakistan needed six runs per over at one stage and looked on course for their second World Cup win over India in New York on June 9. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya led the bowling charge and got India home to win the match. Pakistan would later get knocked out of the tournament after they finished third in the group stage.

The Men in Green will now look to stamp their authority over Bangladesh as they take on a two-match Test series which starts on Wednesday (Aug 21). The series will be of huge importance as vital points in the World Test Championship (WTC) will be up for grabs for both sides.

'All I can do is listen to them': Naseem Shah opens up on criticism faced after T20 World Cup loss to India

Former Pakistan pacer Tanveer Ahmed has challenged the Indian cricket team to 'come' to play Champions Trophy 2025. There's been a lot of uncertainty over India's travelling to Pakistan for the ICC tournament early next year.

“We are lions,” Ahmed declared. “We came and played cricket in your country. Come here and show... We are inviting you to come and play. We will provide security; we will give you everything. Just come once,” said Ahmed on his YouTube channel as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

“This is only the job of Pakistani players, brother. Only Pakistani players came and play, then left. Whether they win or lose, they play the kind of cricket they do. They went to India, played there, and came back. This is what you call a brave team and brave players,” he further added.

Notably, India also hadn't travelled to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 and its matches were subsequently held in Sri Lanka. Pakistan, however, travelled to India for 2023 ODI World Cup played right after the regional tournament.

The news agency PTI, meanwhile, has reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left the responsibility to convince the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to travel for the tournament up to the ICC.&nbsp;

"The PCB now has done what was required of it as hosts of the Champions Trophy. It has submitted the draft schedule and format for the event and also submitted budget for the event,” reported PTI citing a PCB source.

Both India and Pakistan face each other in the ICC and Asian tournaments only and do not play in bilateral series due to political tensions between them.&nbsp;

We will give you everything: Former Pakistan pacer 'challenges' India to play in Champions Trophy 2025

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has&nbsp;requested Team India to visit Pakistan amid the 2025 Champions Trophy row. India and Pakistan play each other only in multi-nation and ICC events, due to the strained political relations since 2008. However, the next year's Champions Trophy is set to be hosted by Pakistan in February-March. At this point, it is unlikely that India will visit the country for the mega event. While talks are on to see how the tournament can be held smoothly. Malik has urged Team India to make a visit to their neighbouring country, saying 'we are good people'.

Malik told Cricket Pakistan, "Whatever reservations there are between the countries, that's a separate issue and should be solved separately. Politics shouldn't come into sports. The Pakistan team went to India last year, and now it's a good opportunity for the Indian team too. I think there are many players in the Indian team who haven't played in Pakistan, so it would be great for them. Hum bahut acche log hai (we are good people). We're very hospitable people, so I'm sure the Indian team should definitely come."

As per a report in PTI, the topic of Champions Trophy’s schedule and format didn't even come up in the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s&nbsp;recently-held annual conference. It further stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have left it to the ICC to convince Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to send their team to Pakistan&nbsp;for the showpiece event.

Last year, Pakistan visited India -- after much drama and chaos -- for the ODI World Cup. It will be interesting to see if India does the same this time around. Notably, the 2023&nbsp;Asia Cup was held in hybrid model after India refused to go to Pakistan, i.e. the original host. Thus, team India's&nbsp;games were held in Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

According to the draft schedule, PCB have scheduled all of India's games in Lahore along with the semifinal and final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Both India and Pakistan are in Group 1 along with Bangladesh and New Zealand whereas Australia, South Africa, Afghanistan and England are in Group 2.

<h2>India win one-sided contest</h2>

Having been tasked to chase 109, India’s opening pair of Smriti Mandhana (45) and Shafali Verma (40) stitched a partnership of 85 runs before the former was dismissed. Needing just 24 more runs to win India would then lose Shafali followed by Dayalan Hemalatha (14) as they lost brief momentum. However, it was the mini partnership of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (5) and Jemimah Rodrigues (3) that got them over the line.

Syeda Aroob Shah bagged two wickets for Pakistan while Nashra Sandhu had one but were&nbsp;not helped by the batters having&nbsp;108 runs to defend.

Thanks to an excellent bowling display, India was at the top of their game as they bowled out Pakistan for 108 in 19.2 overs. Only four batters got into double figures for Pakistan with Sidra Ameen (25) top-scoring for the side. While Deepti Sharma was the star with three wickets, three other bowlers also made their mark.

Renuka Singh, Pooja Vastrakar and Shreyanka Patil all ended with two wickets each to highlight India’s dominance.

India is next in action on Sunday (July 21) when they face United Arab Emirates in their second Group A match. The win will see India book their berth in the semifinal if results go their way while India also takes on Nepal women in their last group stage match.

Women's Asia Cup 2024: Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana lead India's charge as Women in Blue hammer Pakistan

The Women's Asia Cup kicks off on Friday (July 19) in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. Defending champions Harmanpreet Kaur-led India face Pakistan in the marquee encounter, which is Match 2 of the competition, as the big-ticket clash is expected to set the tone of the continental event. Ahead of the clash, skipper Harmanpreet spoke on playing against arch-rivals Pakistan. Notably, India enjoy a staggering&nbsp;11-3 head-to-head record against Pakistan in WT20Is -- with the most recent win in the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa -- and, hence, they will start as overwhelming favourites. Harman stated that even though the game versus Pakistan is important, their focus is also on preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in October.

At the pre-match presser, Harmanpreet said, "We always enjoy playing against Pakistan but each and every team is important. Whenever we go and play, we always want to play good cricket, and we will follow the same method."

India vs Pakistan Women's Asia Cup 2024: When & where to watch live streaming

The Indian Cricket Team is on top of its prowess, having recently won the T20 World Cup in the Americas, and even though they haven’t won an ICC title in 50-over cricket in over a decade, their domination in the white-ball cricket in the past many years speaks for itself. With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan next in line, the chances of the Indian government denying permission to send the team across the border are high and could have repercussions. So, what will happen if Team India pulls out of the eight-team tournament in Pakistan next year?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing for next year’s Champions Trophy in full flow, with several reports suggesting that they have even submitted the draft schedule with potential groups to the ICC and all participating members. With the apex body (ICC) also working in tandem with the PCB, it appears like the competition might go ahead at the original venue.

However, considering the tense political relations between India and Pakistan, neither the ruling government nor the BCCI have communicated any word on sending the team to Pakistan for the tournament.&nbsp;

Although the latest reports reveal that BCCI officials will speak to ICC on the change in venue to Dubai or Sri Lanka during the next annual conference, if the opposite happens and ICC decides against doing it, Team India could face some repercussions.&nbsp;

“In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India will tell us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India permits us to do so. So, we will go according to the decision of the Indian government,” BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

<h2>What will happen&nbsp;if Team India pulls out of CT 2025?</h2>

If the BCCI remains firm on its stance of not allowing Team India to travel to Pakistan (and the venues remain the same), they will be disqualified from participating, making Sri Lanka eligible to replace them.&nbsp;

Per previous reports, India was placed in Group A alongside the hosts Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. The remaining four teams – Afghanistan, England, Australia and South Africa are drawn in Group B.&nbsp;

Besides, per the draft schedule submitted to the ICC and the BCCI, Team India will play their matches at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, including the semis and final, should they qualify.

The marquee India vs Pakistan game is scheduled for March 1 in Lahore.&nbsp;

What happens if Team India pulls out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan?

On Thursday (Jul&nbsp;11), news broke out that the BCCI has asked ICC to shift India's games to Dubai or Sri Lanka as the national side will not travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held early next year. Pakistan is set to host the ICC event, which marks its return after eight years in early February. However, BCCI has reportedly asked the governing body to shift India's games elsewhere amid the strained political relations between the two Asian countries. Now, former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has made a big claim. He has stated that India should travel to Pakistan as his countrymen want to see Virat Kohli play. Further, he stated that Kohli would forget India's hospitality if he arrived in Pakistan.

Afridi, who is taking part in the ongoing World Championship of Legends T20 tournament in the UK, told News 24, "I will welcome Team India. Even when Pakistan used to tour, we received a lot of respect and love from India, and when India came in 2005-06, all their players enjoyed. There is no better advent of peace than India and Pakistan going to each other's country and playing cricket. If Virat Kohli comes to Pakistan, he'll forget the love and hospitality of India. He has his own class."

Further, Afridi also opined on Kohli's T20I retirement. In this regard, he opined, "He shouldn't have quit T20Is because the format looked beautiful with him in it. Why can't he play? He is fit; he is in form."&nbsp;

He added, "More than anything else, with him around the new guys would have found a lot more success. You cannot bring all youngsters together; you need a combination of seniors and juniors. What Virat can teach them, I don't think anyone else can."

Talking about the Champions Trophy row, it seems highly unlikely that India will play any of their games in Pakistan. The last bilateral series between the two nations took place in 2012-13 whereas India have not travelled to Pakistan since 2008. This has happened due to the poor political relations of the two countries since over a decade.&nbsp;

If Virat Kohli comes to Pakistan, he'll forget India's hospitality, says Afridi amid Champions Trophy row

In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reportedly asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift India's Champions Trophy 2025 games to Dubai or Sri Lanka as the national side will not travel to Pakistan. The mega event is scheduled to take place in Pakistan early next year. The showpiece tournament will make its return&nbsp;after 2017 when Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan beat India in the final to win the competition in England and Wales.

Recently, BCCI sources told Indian news agency&nbsp;ANI, "It is highly unlikely that the team will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy but a final decision will be taken by the government. So, in that case, a hybrid model is being worked out. India may play their matches in UAE or Sri Lanka just like the Asia Cup. Although the ICC will also have their stand on it, as of now this is what we are thinking of. Let's see how things go in the future. As of now, it looks like it will be played in a hybrid model."

This comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently submitted a draft schedule to the ICC, where hosts Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and New Zealand are in one group whereas South Africa, Australia, England and Afghanistan are in the other. In the draft schedule, all of India's&nbsp;matches have been&nbsp;scheduled in Lahore, including the big-ticket clash versus Babar Azam-led Men in Green on March 1.&nbsp;

India and Pakistan have not met in bilateral series since 2012-13. Since 2008, India have also not travelled to Pakistan following the strained political relations between the two neighbouring countries. The two senior men's team last met in the recently-held 20-nation T20 World Cup, co-hosted by West Indies and the USA. Both sides were placed in Group A and locked horns on June 9 in New York, where eventual winners India beat Pakistan by 6 runs in a low-scoring thriller.

Champions Trophy: BCCI denies sending team to Pakistan, asks ICC to change venue to Dubai or Sri Lanka

Cricket Australia’s (CA) CEO Nick Hockley has shown interest in bringing arch-rivals India and Pakistan together on the same board to play white-ball cricket. Though both Asian powerhouses don’t indulge in bilateral cricket owing to tense relations, these two teams play only in ICC events and the Asia Cup. Knowing the gravity of this contest regarding its reach, engagement and revenue generation, CA is keen on putting them together.

Besides, Hockley wants to host a tri-series sometime soon involving Australia – something that hasn’t happened among the top teams in a long time. The last time these three teams played on Australian soil in a tri-series was nearly a quarter of a century ago.

With no reports of three concerned boards coming together for this, Hockley remains keen on CA initiating such an initiative.&nbsp;

"Pakistan and India are traditional rival teams; there is a lot of excitement for their matches," Hockley said. "To the extent that we’d be able to facilitate or help in that, we’d be very open to do so. However, the final decision rests with the respective cricket boards of India and Pakistan."

Hockley’s idea is to bridge the gap between India and Pakistan on the cricket front at the international level, with billions of fans worldwide invested in this blockbuster contest. Even in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in the Americas, the India-Pakistan Group A match (in New York) garnered the most views and engagement, with history suggesting that a game between two Asian giants makes the most money for the broadcasters too.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series 12 years ago in India and&nbsp;the last Test series took place&nbsp;in 2008. Though Pakistan has travelled to India for multiple ICC tournaments since, including the 2016 T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup last year, India last toured Pakistan in 2008 (for the Asia Cup).&nbsp;

However, with ICC granting Pakistan the hosting rights of the returning Champions Trophy format, taking place during the February-March window next year, questions are raised on BCCI and Team India’s stance.&nbsp;

The BCCI is yet to respond to ICC’s draft schedule for the eight-team tournament, which includes all India matches at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with the latest reports suggesting that India is in Group A alongside the hosts Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh.&nbsp;

<h2>Ten-team World Cup format is best</h2>

Following ICC’s call to increase the number of participating teams from the next 50-over WC edition onwards (from 10 to 14), Hockley said the ten-team format is the best, as it gives weightage to every game.&nbsp;

"The ODI World Cup, which India hosted last year, was fantastic. I think the ten-team format, where every game counts, is excellent.

"From an Australian perspective, we would continue to value all three formats and would also want that each bilateral series must have consequences in terms of qualifications for the World Cups," Hockley concluded.

Gear up for India-Pakistan bilateral series as Cricket Australia ‘happy’ to play hosts

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has his say on Team India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year, admitting the aim is to win all the ICC trophies and that the seniors will be there to win it for the Men in Blue. After Team India’s T20 World Cup triumph in the Caribbean, Shah wants to see the Rohit Sharma-led side win the Champions Trophy (India last won in 2013) and their maiden World Test Championship title.

Currently stranded in Barbados following the intense final against the Proteas, Shah said that considering the bench strength, which he calls the best and biggest in the world, shows how far India has come and is ahead of their competitors.&nbsp;

"I would want India to win all the titles. We have the biggest bench strength; only three players from this team are going to Zimbabwe. We can field three teams if the need arises," Shah said while speaking to reporters in Barbados.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"The way this team is progressing, our target is to win the World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy. There will be a similar squad playing there. The seniors will be there,” Shah added.

Champions Trophy 2025: BCCI's Jay Shah spills beans on India’s participation, says ‘seniors will be there’

Former England cricketer David Lloyd slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) for purposely fixing India versus Pakistan fixtures in ICC events. During the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 edition, being held in West Indies and the USA, India and their arch-rivals were placed in Group A and locked horns in New York on June 9, where Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. won by 6 runs. Lloyd expressed his displeasure with the ICC fixing games, which as per him is just 'trying to manipulate' the audience. Further, Lloyd also lashed out at the governing body for keeping different rules for both the T20 WC semifinals and asked why India do not have a single day-night encounter in the 20-nation showpiece tournament.

During a chat on TalkSPORT, Lloyd -- who represented England in 9 Tests and 8 ODIs -- was asked if the ICC should prevent formatting its major tournaments in a way that India and Pakistan are bound to face-off at least once – basically by putting&nbsp;them&nbsp;in the same group.

<h2>'You're just trying to manipulate. It's just wrong'</h2>

In this regard, Lloyd (fondly known as 'Bumble'), said, "We talk long and hard about fixing in cricket. That's fixed. It's just fixed for a major event. I think the romance of anything like this if they do get drawn together – not that they are – but if they do, there is a romance to it. There's something for spectators to look forward to. So if it happens, then it becomes an event. The game itself is an event. You can't fix it. And that's only part of what we fix. We fix loads to stuff. In this particular World Cup, you're just trying to manipulate. It's just wrong."

Further, Lloyd also pointed out the different rules for both the T20 WC semifinals. Notably, the Afghanistan versus South Africa semifinal, on Wednesday in Trinidad (June 26, local time), has a reserve day in place. However, the same isn't the case for the second semifinal, featuring India and England, on Thursday (June 27) in Guyana. In case of rain delay, it has four hours of extra time without any overs lost.

In addition, India have not played a single day-night game in the tournament, solely to suit the&nbsp;Indian audiences back home. Thus, Lloyd termed all this 'unfair'.

The Englishman stated, "It just isn't fair (to other teams). You can go round and round and talk about forever. We're just manipulating the tournament for the benefit of a few. If you look at the TV audience in India, they would watch anything there and anytime. It is a religion. It is the be all and end all. They would watch it and so it must of such commercial value, that overrides the competition itself."

Lloyd added, "And don't tell me the ICC devises it. Who does it? Whoever it is, this operating group must be told that whilst you're doing it, this must happen, that must happen and that it's a bit unfair to the teams. Come up with the best World Cup you can, you can put together for the supporter."

During a chat on TalkSPORT, Lloyd -- who represented England in 9 Tests and 8 ODIs -- was asked if the ICC should prevent formatting its major tournaments in a way that India and Pakistan are bound to face-off at least once – basically by putting them in the same group. 'You're just trying to manipulate. It's just wrong' In this regard, Lloyd (fondly known as 'Bumble'), said, "We talk long and hard about fixing in cricket. It's just wrong." Also read: T20 WC 2024: 'They're doing something' - Inzamam comes up with BIZARRE claim against Indian pacers Further, Lloyd also pointed out the different rules for both the T20 WC semifinals. In addition, India have not played a single day-night game in the tournament, solely to suit the Indian audiences back home. They would watch it and so it must of such commercial value, that overrides the competition itself." Lloyd added, "And don't tell me the ICC devises it. Who does it? Whoever it is, this operating group must be told that whilst you're doing it, this must happen, that must happen and that it's a bit unfair to the teams. Come up with the best World Cup you can, you can put together for the supporter."

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh accepted apology from his Pakistani counterpart Kamran Akmal after the latter made a racist joke on Arshdeep Singh. The cricketer-turned-commentator, however, called Akmal 'worthless' for making such statement in the first place.&nbsp;

Harbhajan cautioned the former Pakistan wicketkeeper that such transgressions should never be repeated.&nbsp;

"This is an utterly absurd statement and an incredibly childish act that only a 'Nalaayak' (worthless)&nbsp;individual can perpetrate. Kamran Akmal must comprehend that there is no necessity to comment on or mock anyone's religion," Harbhajan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

"It is commendable that he swiftly realised his error and apologised, but he should never again attempt to offend any Sikh or any religion. We hold all religions in high regard, be it Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, or Christianity...," Harbhajan added.

<h2>What did Kamran do?</h2>

Akmal, who is currently part of&nbsp;a Pakistani channel's cricket panel for the ICC T20 World Cup, made fun of Arshdeep as the Indian pacer prepared to bowl the final over of the India vs Pakistan match.&nbsp;

"Kuch bhi ho sakta hai...12 baj gaye hai (Anything can happen, it's 12 already),” Akmal said laughing.&nbsp;

“Kisi Sikh ko nahi dena chaiye 12 baje over (No Sikh should be given the over when it is 12)," another guest on the show could be heard adding to Akmal's joke.

While Akmal made racial jokes about Arshdeep, the left-arm seamer went on to bowl an excellent last over that helped India win the match, despite posting a modest target of 120.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As the video clip of Akmal's inappropriate joke went viral, Harbhajan posted a message on his X account and slammed the Pakistani ex-cricketer.&nbsp;

"Lakh di laanat tere Kamraan Akhmal (Shame on you Kamran Akmal).You should know the history of Sikhs before u open ur filthy mouth," wrote Harbhajan.

Harbhajan Singh calls Kamran Akmal 'worthless' despite apology from ex-Pakistan cricketer for racist joke

The India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match was yet another occasion where the Men in Green suffered their latest setback which could now see them on the brink of elimination. While the contest was taking place in the United States, far from the original geographical rise of the rivalry, an unfortunate incident took place in Pakistan’s Karachi. A YouTuber lost his life&nbsp;after he was shot while filming a preview for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match.

<h2>What was the incident?</h2>

Saad Ahmed, a 24-year-old YouTuber, was shot dead by a security guard in the Serena mobile market in Karachi on June 4. According to eyewitnesses, the YouTuber was in conversation with the shopkeepers and the local public when the incident took place. During this conversation, Ahmed approached Gul Hassan, a security person in the famous Karachi market. During their chat, the flow of the conversation escalated to such an extent that Gul shot Ahmed with his service pistol.

He was quickly rushed to a hospital by the people around him but he succumbed to his injuries. CCTV footage indicated that Ahmed was shot in the shoulder and was bleeding profusely.

Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of rescue teams, took Ahmed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced ‘dead on arrival’.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at the Taimuria Police Station after a complaint was filed by the victim’s father, Mukhtiar Ahmed. The FIR names the security guard, the security agency and the mobile market authority that have&nbsp;been accused of negligence despite prior permission for the video shoot.

The local police are understood to have taken appropriate action once the complaint was filed. The security person was detained and his weapon was confiscated with an inquiry underway. It is being reported that certain gestures by Ahmed provoked Gul who then&nbsp;shot the YouTuber.

Security guard shoots dead YouTuber for asking him questions about India-Pak match

Former Pakistan captain Salim Malik has questioned all-rounder Imad Wasim's slow and ineffective knock versus India in the T20 World Cup match, held on Sunday (June 9) in New York. Playing at the&nbsp;Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, Babar Azam-led Pakistan opted to bowl first and did well to dismiss India for 119 in 19 overs, riding on Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf's three-fers along with Mohammad Amir's 2 for 23. In reply, the Men in Green fell apart -- despite needing 48 in the last eight overs -- to only manage 113/7. While questions have been raised on several Pakistani batters, Malik pointed fingers at Wasim for his 23-ball 15.

Malik said on 24 News channel, "You look at his (Wasim) innings, and it appears as if he was wasting balls not scoring runs and making things difficult in the run-chase."

Talking about Wasim's knock, he came out to bat at No. 5 and struggled throughout the innings on a tricky surface against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. He only managed a boundary and struck at a woeful 65.22 to further dent Pakistan's run-chase. The one-time winners were ahead in the run-chase for a majority part, despite India not letting them dictate terms, however, the middle and lower-order failed to close the chase. Wasim's knock has been severely criticised as the left-hander struggled to get his timing right.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi took a dig at Babar's captaincy after the India loss. "A captain brings everyone together, either he spoils the team environment or he builds the team. Let this World Cup finish, and I will speak openly," Afridi said.

"I have such a relationship with Shaheen (Afridi) that if I talk about him, people will say I am favouring my son-in-law," he further added.

After the India game, Pakistan rode on Amir and Mohammad Rizwan's heroics to beat Canada on Tuesday (June 11) in New York to keep their T20 WC hopes alive. They still need other results to go in their favour and also beat Ireland in their remaining tie to proceed to the Super Eight round in the mega event, being co-hosted by West Indies and USA.

T20 WC: 'It appears he was wasting balls' - Former Pak captain questions Imad Wasim's slow knock vs India

Pakistan's bowling coach Azhar Mahmood has defended Babar Azam-led Pakistani players who have been slammed for shopping and dining out after their T20 World Cup loss versus India on Sunday (June 9) in New York.

To this, the reporter questioned Pakistan's diet plans and compared them with other teams such as England.

T20 WC: 'Life does not...' - Mahmood defends Pakistan players for shopping and dining out post India defeat

Veteran Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad launched a scathing attack on Babar Azam after Men in Green's six-run loss at the hands of India in the T20 World Cup on Sunday (June 9) in New York.

Babar-led Pakistan opted to bowl first at the&nbsp;Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York,&nbsp;and rode on Naseem Shah-Haris Rauf's three-fers along with Mohammad Amir's 2 for 23 to dismiss India for 119 in 19 overs. However, they fell flat in the run-chase, only managing 113 for 7 courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah's 3 for 14 and Hardik Pandya's 2 for 24.

After the match, Shehzad didn't mince his words on Babar, slamming him for his poor strike-rate in T20Is and inability to win key games for the side.

Shehzad, who last played for Pakistan in 2019, alleged that Babar has built a Pakistan team on the basis of friendships.

On a Pakistani cricket show, the right-hander said, "You have hallucinated people by scoring runs against B, C, and D teams. Your salaries were increased by PCB to evolve your game, but you put their money on social media for image building and nothing else."

Shehzad further opined, "Look at your scores in big tournaments, your stats, your average and your strike rate. What kind of a king Babar Azam … Iss king ka kya karu jisne match nahi jitwana hai. (What do I do with a King who does not win you matches). There is a stat that your big scores have come in losing causes.”

The 32-year-old pointed out, "You have picked your friends and given them 40 matches to prove their worth and this is hurting Pakistan cricket. You can give 40 matches to this 40-year-old (pointing towards former Pakistani&nbsp;player Imran Nazir) and he will also give you performances at this age. Look at our domestic performers, they are ignored and they are leaving the country, going to the USA, and UAE to play cricket."

Shehzad slammed Babar for his inability to build a team despite being the captain for five years.

In this regard, he added,&nbsp;"You are a middle-order batter and a leader and you had five years to build the team; but you have not been able to develop a single middle-order batter, there is no proper all-rounder in the team. Aapne kisi ko ban ne nahi diya, aapko sirf thulle chahiye thee, ji aap upar se 15 over khlele, aur fir neeche se aake aaknhe band karke maarte jaae. (You did not develop anyone, you only needed players who hit blindly because you want to bat for 15 overs and then have these players come in and try to hit blindly)."

Babar has had an ordinary start in the T20 WC.

He made an ineffective 43-ball 44 versus USA, against whom Pakistan lost in the Super Over, before only managing 13 off 10 balls versus India.

Time and again, questions have been raised on his strike-rate; i.e. an ordinary&nbsp;129.77 in the format.

Moreover, many have pointed fingers at his inability to stand tall with the bat against stronger teams.

Thus, the right-hander is under the scanner for his batting as well as for his ordinary leadership with Pakistan reeling at the T20 WC, being held in West Indies and USA.
