"In 2021, we had the 2+2 dialogue which is a new mechanism to further our relationship," India's prime minister said.

PM Modi said India and Russia have been cooperating in various fields including in Make in India, space&nbsp;and other civil domains.

During the summit, the Russian president said the two countries have been holding summits every year but it could not take place last year due to the COVID-19 crisis.&nbsp;The two leaders also discussed regional and global developments including post-pandemic recovery and the prevailing situation in Afghanistan, the Indian foreign ministry said.

The MEA added that the role of connectivity through the International North-South Transport Corridor(INSTC) and the proposed Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor was also discussed between the two leaders.&nbsp;

"We also cooperate in the military sphere like no other country, by that I mean we develop technologies," the Russian president added. &nbsp;Putin said both countries have been holding joint military exercises on each other's territories.

"We are concerned about terrorism, terror finance and organised crime," the Russian president said adding&nbsp;that&nbsp;he was concerned about developments in Afghanistan.

Continuing the close defence partnership, Moscow has hoped India will soon sign agreement on IGLA-S anti air missile, while New Delhi has announced it will soon produce spare parts of the Russian defence equipment under Atmanirbhar Bharat.

India has signed an intergovernmental agreement with Russia to the manufacturing of spare parts of Russian equipment supplied to India. Indian defence forces have a substantial component of Russian military hardware, some estimates bill it around 70 per cent.

"Now a number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) on both sides are in touch with each other; this is a big step forward," said&nbsp;Indian envoy to Russia D. B. Venkatesh Varma.

India's Secretary of Defence Production Raj Kumar had a meeting with key Russian defence bodies and Russian Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Oleg Ryazansev, a few days ago on the sidelines of Russian government's Army-2020 Forum.

Meanwhile, Dmitry Shugaev, the director at Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Russia's nodal body to export defence products to foriegn countries has expressed hope that India will soon sign agreement for production and supply of IGLA-S Anti Air Missile "since we have won the tender unconditionally."

Both sides are hoping to expedite the production of 7.62mm Kalashnikov Assault Rifle- AK203, a joint venture between the two countries. The Russians are also hopeful that contracts for 6 Ka 31 helicopters will be signed by the end of 2020.

Spokesperson of FSMTC Maria Vorobyeva said on the sidelines of army 2020, "We know that due to objective reasons, the Indian leadership decided to accelerate the allocation of funds for the purchase of the specified aircraft. The talks are already going on. We expect, that the contracts, including the one on 6 Ka-31 helicopters, are signed before the end of year 2020."

Asked about S400 anti-aircraft missile system, the spokesperson said, "delivery of the first regimental batch is expected by the end of 2021" to India and "further acceleration of the delivery of the first batch from the system is technically impossible, since there are objective, technology-related stages of production, acceptance and transfer of equipment."

India had signed the contract for the deal during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit on October 5, 2018.

Moscow hopes agreement on IGLA missile, New Delhi to manufacture spare parts of Russian equipment

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday arrived in Moscow on a three-day visit to Russia where he will discuss modalities pertaining to defence co-production between the two countries.

During his visit, the Defence Minister will co-chair the 19th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&amp;MTC) here.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence, Singh is expected to hold extensive discussions with Defence Minister of Russia General Sergei Shoigu covering all areas of military-to-military cooperation and defence industrial cooperation.

He will also inaugurate, along with Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, `India-Russia Defence Industry Cooperation Conference`.The Conference will discuss ways to promote defence industrial cooperation between India and Russia, technology transfer and investment in India in the defence industry under the `Make in India` programme.

Rajnath Singh is also scheduled to visit St Petersburg where he will place a wreath at the Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery honouring the soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during the Second World War.

Last week, Singh had travelled to Tashkent, Uzbekistan where he represented India at the Council of Heads of Government meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. India and Uzbekistan signed three MoUs pertaining to military education and military medicine.
