India's two major political parties, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress exchanged a heated war of words following comments made by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the India-China border crisis in Ladakh.

Singh's comments were endorsed by his senior party member Rahul Gandhi, who in a tweet called the former PM's advice "important", adding "for the betterment of India, I hope the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) will accept it politely."

The comments were not taken down well by the BJP and its chief JP Nadda asked Congress to stop insulting the armed forces and questioning their bravery.&nbsp;

The People's Liberation Army of China is conducting large-scale military exercises. It is said to be testing the firepower of its troops. Dozens of tanks and armed vehicles were seen taking part in drills here.

The Indian air force is also moving fighter jets to forward bases. Today — it deployed the newly acquired Apache attack helicopters in Ladakh along with upgraded MIG-29s.

Other critical front-line assets like the Sukhoi-30 MKI — the Mirage 2000 and jaguar fighter jets too have been moved to advanced positions, outposts are being monitored frequently.

Indian forces say they are fully prepared for any further misadventures. Delhi is also putting speculation to rest. For 3 days — there have been unconfirmed reports about Indian soldiers being in Chinese custody. That they were being held hostage by the PLA. Today — the Indian army has set the record straight. It has confirmed that all soldiers involved in the Galwan valley are — now — accounted for. None of them is missing in action. The Chinese foreign ministry too has confirmed this.

The virtual meeting began with participants paying tributes to the 20 Indian soldiers killed in the violent face-off with Chinese troops in East Ladakh earlier this week.

Prime Minister Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were seen standing in silence as a mark of respect for the fallen army men.

Singh and Jaishankar spoke on the stand-off at the meeting.

The government had invited presidents of major political parties for the meet.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, have been asking the government to be transparent about the situation on the border and slammed its handling of the issue.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, to this end, asked the government whether there was any intelligence failure on the situation, and sought an assurance from the prime minister that status quo ante would be restored at the border and China will revert to its original position.

She posed a set of questions to the government, asking specifics about when Chinese troops intruded into the Indian territory in Ladakh and whether the country's external intelligence agencies did not report any unusual activity there.

"The question is, what next? What is the way forward? The entire country would like an assurance that the status quo ante would be restored and China will revert to the original position on the Line of Actual Control," she said.

Gandhi alleged that valuable time was lost between May 5 and June 6 and the government failed to use all avenues of talks to ease the situation and the result was the loss of 20 lives as well as injury to dozens of personnel.

She also asked about the current status of the Mountain Strike Corps, with two mountain infantry divisions, that was sanctioned in 2013. "Should the government not treat it with utmost priority," she asked.

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, on her part, said India should not allow entry of Chinese firms in telecom, railway, and aviation sectors.

Apart from them, BJP chief J P Nadda, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, TRS leader K Chandrashekhar Rao, JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, DMK's M K Stalin, YSR Congress Party's YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray were among those who attended the meeting.

"As far as I know, China presently has not detained any Indian personnel," Zhao told a media briefing here while answering questions on the tense standoff between the Indian and Chinese troops at the Galwan Valley.

"I would like to reiterate that regarding the serious situation in the Galwan Valley, the right and wrong is very clear and the responsibility entirely lies with the Indian side," he added.

Earlier, ten Indian Army personnel including two Majors were released by the Chinese military on Thursday evening following three days of negotiations, people familiar with the development said in New Delhi.

The clash in Galwan Valley is the biggest confrontation between the two militaries after their 1967 clashes in Nathu La when India lost around 80 soldiers while the death toll on the Chinese side was over 300.

The India-China border dispute covers the 3,488-km-long LAC. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of southern Tibet, while India contests it.

Moscow has assured that it stands by India in thick &amp; thin.&nbsp;Top sources told WION while it supports India, it also backs New Delhi's efforts to resolve issues with China amidst the ongoing stand-off with China.

The Russian readout of deputy Russian foreign minister's talks with Indian envoy to Russia said, "the officials discussed regional security, including developments on the Line of Actual Control on the border between India and China in the Himalayas".&nbsp;

India and Russia have close ties and engage frequently including at the highest level. Both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have spoken to each other many times this year including on COVID-19 crisis.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's&nbsp;Foreign Minister SM Qureshi also spoke to his Russian counterpart&nbsp;and the Russian foreign ministry readout of the talks showed that Russia did not support Pak priorities as Islamabad had been claiming during the telephone call.

India will send 75 members strong Tri-Service contingent to participate in the 75th Victory Day Parade of World War II in Moscow.

Victory Day Parade is scheduled to be held on June 24, 2020, in Moscow and the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu had invited Indian contingent to take part.&nbsp;

Moscow assures support to India amidst stand off with China

Paying their tributes to Indian soldiers who were killed in a violent face-off with Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh, the US Embassy on Friday said that the bravery of military personnel would not be forgotten.

The Galwan Valley is an arid, inhospitable area, where some soldiers are deployed on steep ridges. It is considered important because it leads to the Aksai Chin, a disputed plateau claimed by India but controlled by China.

The satellite pictures, taken by Earth-imaging company Planet Labs and obtained by Reuters, show signs of altering the landscape of the valley through widening tracks, moving earth and making river crossings, one expert said.

Satellite images suggest Chinese activity at Himalayan border with India before clash

China's Oppo cancelled the live online launch of its flagship smartphone in India on Wednesday after a border clash between the two countries that has renewed calls from local Indian trader groups to shun Chinese products.

Soldiers from India and China fought each other with nail-studded clubs and stones on a disputed Himalayan mountain frontier this week, leading to the death of 20 Indian soldiers in the worst clash since 1967.

The clashes risk souring sentiment for big Chinese investors who were eyeing the Indian market and already faced pressure as anti-China sentiment festered during the coronavirus outbreak.

Chinese firms such as Great Wall, SAIC and Bytedance have placed major bets on India, where investors like Alibaba also fund many startups. Chinese smartphone brands, including Oppo and Xiaomi, account for eight of every 10 smartphones sold in India.

Oppo, which has a phone-assembly plant in India, had earlier announced a "live unveiling" of its new Find X2 smartphone models would be held on Wednesday, but a YouTube link that had to go live at 4 p.m. local time was not available for viewing.

To launch the phone, the company instead uploaded a 20-minute, pre-recorded video which included a brief highlight of Oppo's efforts to support Indian authorities in preventing the spread of coronavirus.

Oppo did not respond to Reuters' request on why the live launch was cancelled, but a person familiar with the company's thinking said the decision was taken to avoid any possible uproar on social media.

"There is tension in the environment," said the person.

Even before the border clashes, New Delhi in April changed its foreign investment policy for neighbouring countries, a move that upset Chinese investors as the Indian government now screens all incoming investments from there.

"The current government will play hardball... I do not think any new approvals for China proposals will happen in a hurry," said Abhishek Saxena, co-founder of Indian law firm Phoenix Legal that advises Chinese clients.

They crossed the Galwan river into the Indian side of the border. This incursion was followed by a physical skirmish... But so much for self-defence measures?

This cannot be possible.

3) India is actively seeking a face-off, and is building infrastructure to escalate tensions. India's actions violate China's territorial integrity.

FACT: China's reaction shows its nervousness. It has built roads for decades.&nbsp;

China is saying that India 'seriously infringed' upon the consensus made in the military level talks on June 6.

FACT: It was China that never respected this consensus. It did not de-escalate -- it still hasn't.

For weeks, the Chinese state media has been releasing videos that show how Beijing is reinforcing its defences -- videos that look like they are straight out of a war film....&nbsp;

Thousands of troops were 'swiftly relocated' from the Hubei province to the LAC earlier this month.

The PLA even received China's most powerful Howitzers on June 11.
