Former Pakistan Army chief General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have reacted to recent remarks made by Khan's wife Bushbra Bibi about Saudi Arabia. Bibi's remarks about Saudi Arabia have received backlash from government officials. The PTI has distanced itself from these remarks while Bajwa said that Bibi's remarks about Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations were "100 per cent false." What did Bibi say? The criticism by Bajwa, PTI Sources close to Bajwa denied the allegations levelled by Bushra Bibi. "This is a blatant lie," the sources told WION and pointed out that Bajwa received no calls from Saudi officials. Meanwhile, Bajwa himself told The Express Tribune that during Bibi's visit to Saudi Arabia, she was welcomed with great honour, receiving numerous gifts. The former army chief also said that relations between Islamabad and Riyadh had never deteriorated, citing a single instance in which ex-foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s statement had caused some concerns. On the other hand, the PTI clarified that Bibi's remarks about Saudi Arabia playing a role in Imran Khan's ouster were her personal opinion and did not reflect the party's position. “Her statement was not issued on behalf of the party, and it is baseless to link her personal views with PTI policy,” Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif told Geo News. “Bushra Bibi’s viewpoint is her own. She will clarify whether her statement was personal or intended to represent the party’s stance,” Saif added. He also clarified that PTI had never issued any statement alleging Saudi Arabia’s involvement in Imran Khan’s removal from the prime minister's post. Pak govt reacts On Friday, the Pakistani government rejected the remarks made by Bibi about Saudi Arabia. In a statement, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said, "Implicating Saudi Arabia for petty political point scoring is regrettable and indicative of a desperate mindset. We urge all political forces to desist from compromising Pakistan’s foreign policy in pursuance of their political objectives." “Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are close friends and brothers. This relationship is based on mutual respect,” Dar added. (With inputs from agencies)

Imran issued a “final call” on Nov. 13 and urged more and more people to join the Sunday rally against what he describes as a 'stolen mandate', the unjust arrests of people, and the passage of the 26th amendment, which he said has strengthened a “dictatorial regime”.

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan on Friday approached the Supreme Court and sought the constitution of a judicial commission to probe alleged suppression and targeting of workers of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party by state authorities in collusion with “unknown persons”.

Headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and consisting of two senior judges Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Munib Akhtar, the judicial commission should look into political and non-political interference in the functioning of state authorities and the violation of the oaths taken under the Constitution by the functionaries, said the petition filed by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.

The petition asked the apex court to issue orders to ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of citizens, including the rights to life, freedom of assembly, expression, movement, information and fair judicial redress as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The petition also sought a direction from the Supreme Court against the denial of the no-objection certificate (NOC) for holding the upcoming political gatherings by the PTI, preferably on November 24.

He added that he would “rather live the rest of my life in prison than compromise on my principles.”

Pakistan: Imran Khan's PTI To Protest Against Constitutional Amendment

Former prime minister and chief of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) party Nawaz Sharif on Thursday (Oct 17) said the visit by the Indian foreign minister to Islamabad was an opportunity for both South Asian neighbours to break the ice. Indian top diplomat S Jaishankar landed in the capital city of Pakistan on Tuesday (Oct 15) to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Jaishankar became the first Indian foreign minister to visit Pakistan in more than nine years.

He also hailed Narendra Modi’s 2015 visit to Pakistan, saying the Indian PM also wanted both sides to look ahead with positive approach and was not happy with strained ties.
