Assam continues to battle one of its worst flood disasters as the death toll rises to 78. More than 3 lakh people have been affected, with hundreds of villages still submerged under floodwaters. Authorities have set up relief camps and dispatched emergency aid, but thousands remain displaced while farmland and livelihoods have suffered extensive damage.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of more heavy rainfall in the coming days, raising fears of fresh flooding in vulnerable districts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the Assam government of full support for relief and restoration efforts.

<p>According to PTI, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam were earlier placed under an orange alert and the warning was later upgraded as the IMD predicted&nbsp;heavy rainfall in isolated places in these districts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad have been placed on an orange alert. While,&nbsp;Kannur and Kasaragod remain on yellow alert.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A red alert indicates heavy to extremely heavy rain of more than 20 centimetres (cm) in 24 hours. On the other hand, an orange alert indicates&nbsp;very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.</p>
