That was a drop-off from the previous weekend's $60 million, but was enough to keep the Dwayne 'The Rock'&nbsp;Johnson and Jason Statham action film from Universal Pictures ahead of new Lionsgate release 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.'

'Scary Stories,'&nbsp;based on the children's horror books and produced by Guillermo del Toro, drew $20.9 million for the three-day weekend.

It tells the story of small-town teenagers who are tormented by a book they removed from a haunted house in 1968.

In third place, in its fourth week out, was Disney's 'The Lion King,'&nbsp;at $20.2 million. The remake of the popular 1994 film has an all-star voice cast including Donald Glover, Beyonce, Seth Rogen, James Earl Jones and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Fourth spot went to new Paramount comedy 'Dora &amp; the Lost City of Gold,'&nbsp;at $17.4 million. The live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon kids' program 'Dora the Explorer' features Isabela Moner.

And placing fifth, in its third week out, was Sony's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,'&nbsp;at $11.7 million. The Quentin Tarantino film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Al Pacino in a drama set in the changing Hollywood of 1969.

Rounding out the weekend's top 10 were:

"People know that I DJ and I make music and all that, but the hybrid of being able to put something that I've made specifically for a movie I'm in is new territory for me," Elba told Entertainment Weekly. 
 
The 46-year-old actor said he wrote the song in between the scenes while filming the David Leitch-directed movie.&nbsp; 
 
He then recorded the track with Cypress Hill and sent the final mix to the director, who decided to add it in the movie.&nbsp; 
 
"Idris is an artist in so many ways; he's an incredible actor and also a martial artist and a musician. And when you're surrounded by artists like that, you want to just take advantage of it and support the creativity and see where it goes," Leitch said.

"We started talking about the potential of a spin-off really after 'Fast Five'. And then when 'Fast 6' came around, that's when we started having real talks about it, but then the challenge was just finding out what the creative could be and how we cracked that," Johnson said.

"I'm really happy that we were not only able to crack the creative and really lean into the relationship and chemistry - the biting chemistry between myself and Jason Statham - but I think that also you find out that it's something the fans have been wanting for some time now," he added.

The 46-year-old star said with the spin-off, his aim is to extend the life of the franchise, which is eagerly followed by millions of fans around the globe.&nbsp;
