The family was named Britain's richest family by The Sunday Times of London, which recently calculated their net worth to be 37 billion pounds, or $47 billion.

According to reports in the Swiss media, the chief prosecutor, Yves Bertossa, said during the opening arguments of the widely followed trial on June 10 that the family had allocated more money for a pet than for the wage of a single domestic helper.

According to the initial indictment, some domestic servants received as low as 10,000 rupees per month, or around $120. Many of the workers, it was stated, were from impoverished families in India and had worked "from dawn until late in the evening" without receiving overtime compensation.

According to the accusation, their salaries, which were far less than Geneva's minimum wage for domestic workers, were sent into Indian bank accounts that they found difficult to access.

According to the allegations, the passports of the staff were confiscated and they were not allowed to leave the house without the employer's permission.

The lawsuit has been filed against four members of the Hinduja family: 78-year-old Prakash Hinduja, his wife Kamal, their son Ajay and his wife Namrata.

On Monday, Ajay testified before the court and said he had no information about the employee and that the recruitment was handled by Hinduja group's India arm. Prakash and Kamal didn't appear in court citing poor health.

She added how a staffer admitted that her pay in Geneva was better than what she was earning in India. The Geneva prosecutor’s office was conflating justice with social justice, the lawyer said.

Furthermore, lawyers for the&nbsp;Hinduja family also pushed back on these claims and said that the family members themselves are not&nbsp;involved in the hiring or day-to-day handling of staff.&nbsp;

In a statement to Forbes,&nbsp;Romain Jordan,&nbsp;an attorney for the Hinduja family, called the&nbsp;criminal indictment "excessive" and accused the prosecutors of being biased&nbsp;against the billionaire family.

"No other family would have been treated in this way. Our clients remain determined to defend themselves and have confidence in the judicial system," said Jordan.&nbsp;

The Hinduja Group, a mega-corporation owned by the Hinduja family, runs businesses in nearly 12 different areas like finance, IT, and infrastructure.

They also possess valuable property in London, such as the Raffles Hotel located at the Old War Office in Whitehall, where the most expensive suite costs £25,000 per night.

After SP Hinduja passed away last year, his brother Gopi has taken charge of the family's businesses.

SP Hinduja, Indian-born British billionaire businessman, investor, and philanthropist, had been unwell for some time, the spokesperson said.

In a statement, the family said, "Gopichand, Prakash, Ashok and the whole Hinduja family with a heavy heart regret to announce the passing away of our family patriarch, and Chairman of the Hinduja Group, Mr S P Hinduja today." 
 
SP Hinduja had lost his wife Madhu in January this year. She was 82. He is survived by his daughters, Shanu and Vinoo. 
 
"He was a visionary and mentor to the family bestowing the founding principles and values of our late father, PD Hinduja. He played a very important role alongside his brothers in building a strong relationship between his host country, the UK and his home country, India," it added. 
 
Since the 1990s, he was consistently ranked among the UK and Asia's wealthiest people. In 2022, Hinduja topped the Sunday Times&nbsp;Rich List with an estimated wealth of £28.472&nbsp;billion sterling.
