Taking into account other factors, the researchers looked into how many liveborn children in each group were diagnosed with a major heart defect or with a serious heart defect. This included finding the condition either in the womb or in the first year of life.

It was analysed keeping in mind things like the child's year of birth, country of birth, mother's age at delivery, if the mother smoked during pregnancy, or if the mother had diabetes or heart defects were taken into account.

They found heart defects to be more common in babies born through IVF and other such methods, with the problem being around 36 per cent more common compared to babies naturally conceived.

In the case of twin or multiple birth babies, a major heart defect was likely to pose a problem more than others, at 2.47 and 1.15 per cent, respectively.

“I like doing research on food items that are highly stigmatized in the nutrition world. Most people associate the potato as something that is mostly fried or has a lot of fat, and we wanted to shine a light on how a potato – when prepared properly – can be both functional and healthy," said Akhavan.

In the research, 24 individuals - who had Type 2 diabetes - were fed pre-prepared baked potatoes as a&nbsp;daily snack&nbsp;or side dish.&nbsp;

A control group ate an equivalent serving of white rice. The study was carried out for 12 weeks, and changes in cardiometabolic health indicators and glycemic control were observed.

In the results, the potatoes emerged as a winner, as those who ate them had a modest decrease in fasting blood glucose levels and their waist circumference and body composition improved while there was a reduction in resting heart rate.

“The results from our study provide evidence that white potatoes can be healthfully incorporated in the diet of individuals with Type 2 diabetes when substituted for other foods with a high glycemic load, such as long-grain white rice," Akhavan said.

There is an attempt to clear some of these contradictions through a new analysis focusing on severe tooth loss, collecting data from 12 already published studies that each tracked CVD and oral outcomes for the age between three and forty-nine years.&nbsp;

The analysis found that people who had lost most or all of their teeth are at a 66% risk of getting severe heart-related issues and are at a high risk of dying through these diseases as compared to those who had not lost teeth or lost only a few.&nbsp;

This connection varied far from the five studies conducted on people who had fewer than ten teeth remaining, than the studies that looked at people with no teeth left at all. However, the higher risk of dying through cardiovascular disease for people who lost rough or more than 22 teeth remained evident.&nbsp;

This observational studies analysis only pointed towards the connections, and not direct causes, the analysis suggests that the risk of CVDs could partly be addressed by improving oral health. Aminoshariae and her colleagues conclude by saying, "Thus, saving teeth and keeping an optimal oral health cannot be underestimated.”

During the summer camp, the sun exposure led to second-degree burns on his legs. The 20-year-old boy was then taken to the hospital by the camp leaders where it was discovered that he also had pneumonia patches on his lungs.

The 24-year-old sister of Charlie, Emily, said that doctors found Charlie had an enlarged heart, which is also called cardiomegaly, and this forces the heart to work harder than normal.

The doctors said that the boy is likely to have had the condition since his birth, however, it took "something like a respiratory infection" for it to present itself.

In a major breakthrough related to artificial heart transplants, scientists at the Texas Heart Institute (THI) were able to carry out implantation using a "titanium-constructed" heart. The operation was conducted as a part of an early feasibility study overseen by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The THI said the heart "is a titanium-constructed biventricular rotary blood pump with a single moving part that utilises a magnetically levitated rotor that pumps the blood and replaces both ventricles of a failing heart."

The heart is made by BiVACOR and uses the same technology as high-speed rail lines. BiVACOR is said to have been working on this device since 2013.

<h2>No friction</h2>

The advantage of the&nbsp;titanium heart, which uses a magnetically levitated rotor, is that there is no friction involved. It reduces wear and tear and prolongs the heart's life.

The heart uses a small rechargeable external controller to keep it going. It is able to push blood at the rate of 12 litres per minute, enough to sustain an adult.

Other artificial hearts use flexible polymer diaphragms to pump blood. But the components of such hearts wear out soon and it reduces their lifespan.

The heart is made by BiVACOR and uses the same technology as high-speed rail lines. BiVACOR is said to have been working on this device since 2013. No friction The advantage of the titanium heart, which uses a magnetically levitated rotor, is that there is no friction involved. It reduces wear and tear and prolongs the heart's life. The heart uses a small rechargeable external controller to keep it going. It is able to push blood at the rate of 12 litres per minute, enough to sustain an adult. Other artificial hearts use flexible polymer diaphragms to pump blood. But the components of such hearts wear out soon and it reduces their lifespan. The study involved patients between 30 to 70 years of age with heart failure from the cardiology outpatient department of Kasturba Hospital in Manipal, India.

The ones taking part in the study had undergone a cardiac procedure within the past six months to one year. They were following the guidelines as advised by the doctor in terms of medication.

The patients who had developed severe symptoms were excluded.

Out of the 85 participants, 40 were assigned to the group that practised yoga, whereas 45 patients were allocated to the control group.&nbsp;

The age was 49 years and 70, out of which 82 per cent were men.

Throughout the study, all the patients kept taking guideline-recommended heart failure medications.

At baseline, six months, and one year, the researchers examined the heart structure and functioning in both groups.

The researchers found that as compared to the control group, the yoga group exhibited significant progress in all the spheres at six months and one year relative to baseline.

"Patients who did yoga had healthier hearts and were more able to carry out ordinary activities such as walking and climbing stairs than those who only took medications. Patients with heart failure should speak to their doctor before starting yoga and should then receive training from an experienced instructor. Prescribed medications should be continued as before. Yoga may be unsuitable for heart failure patients with severe symptoms, who were excluded from our study," Dr Singh said.

Goncalves mentioned that as atrial fibrillation approaches, the likelihood steadily rises until it surpasses a predefined threshold, triggering an early warning.

The researchers noted that due to its low computational requirements, the AI model is "well-suited for incorporation into wearable devices."

"The cemetery is full of love stories," said Mario Darias, a 66-year-old singer-songwriter who has written several books about the Havana graveyard, founded in 1876 and which extends over around 50 hectares (120 acres) in the heart of the city.&nbsp;

With its elaborate sculptures and architecture, the cemetery is considered an open-air museum, housing the final remains of independence heroes, writers, musicians, painters and famous doctors.&nbsp;

But it is also a place where loves -- some shocking, some hidden, some thwarted -- are immortalized.

Lasa's tomb represents one of Cuba's most famous love stories.

The upper-class beauty was married to the son of Cuba's vice president when she met and fell in love with Baro.

"Many people were opposed to their relationship. Everyone said she was going to be widowed very soon, but she died first," said Darias.

Not far away stands the tomb of Amelia Goyri who died while eight months pregnant at the age of 24 in 1901, and was buried with her baby atop her legs, as was the custom.&nbsp;

Her bereaved husband began a dedication to her tomb so intense that its emotion was contagious, and visitors to the cemetery began stopping to pay their respects to her as well.

Examining overweight and obese patients with preexisting heart disease but without diabetes, the study revealed that Wegovy led to a 28 per cent reduction in non-fatal heart attacks, a 7 per cent decrease in non-fatal strokes, and a 15 percent drop in heart-related deaths compared to the placebo.&nbsp;

There are however several risk factors associated with the obesity treatment which include inflammation, blood sugar control, and blood pressure.&nbsp;
