<p>In the 1950s, a Swiss company called Ciba Pharmaceuticals developed nitazene as a new painkiller (analgesic). But the opioid drug, banned under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 in the UK, never made it to the market.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>How do opioids work?</strong></h2>

<p>Opioids, like morphine, heroin, and fentanyl, act on mu(μ)-opioid receptors, sites in the brain and other body parts that respond to the drug. When activated, these brain receptors can relieve pain. However, at high doses, they can evoke euphoria followed by drowsiness.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Opioids also reduce breathing by suppressing the respiratory system. Thus, an overdose of opioids can cause death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Other issues with nitazene include its usage as an adulterant in other illegal drugs, like cocaine, benzodiazepines, and synthetic cannabinoids (spice).</p>

<p>In recent cases, there have been several instances of nitazene overdose. The number of new drugs in this class, analogues, emerging on the streets appears to be growing. However, since enough facilities are unavailable to test for nitazenes, the extent of the opioid drug's penetration into the illegal market is unknown.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In three hours of Congress testimony, Haugen accused Facebook of intentionally refusing to make changes to its algorithms because it put "profits" before people.</p>

<p>"The kids who are bullied on Instagram, the bullying follows them home. It follows them into their bedrooms. The last thing they see before they go to bed at night is someone being cruel to them," Haugen said.</p>

Instagram to roll out 2 tools to protect teens from harmful posts

<p>As per a recent analysis of 90 studies, agricultural pesticides which are sold to farmers 'ready mixed' into cocktails can kill twice as many bees.</p>

<p>The impact from the ingredients is mainly due to milk powder, cocoa derivatives, sugar and palm oil.</p>

<p>"Most of us love chocolate, but don't often think of what it takes to get from cocoa beans to the chocolate products we buy in the shop," said Adisa Azapagic, a professor at the University of Manchester.</p>

<p>"Cocoa is cultivated around the equator in humid climate conditions, mainly in West Africa and Central and South America so it has to travel some distance before it makes it into the chocolate products we produce and consume in the UK," said Azapagic.</p>

<p>According to the International Cocoa Organisation, the annual production of cocoa beans in 2016 was 4.25 million tonnes.</p>

<p>The worldwide sales of chocolate are estimated to be worth more than $101 billion.</p>

<p>Production of the milk powder used to make milk chocolates is very energy intensive. Dairy cows also produce significant greenhouse gas emissions per litre of milk produced. All of this adds to the environmental impact of chocolate.</p>

<p>"We hope this work will help the chocolate industry to target the environmental hotspots in the supply chains and make chocolate products as sustainable as possible," said Azapagic.</p>
