<p>George's legal team argued that his chosen hairstyle is protected by the Texas CROWN Act, a law designed to prevent discrimination against hair textures or protective hairstyles associated with racial identity.</p>

<p>However, the law does not explicitly address hair length. Despite this argument, Judge Chap Cain, presiding over the case, upheld Barbers Hill's policy, asserting that it does not contravene the provisions of the CROWN Act.</p>

<p>For George, his hairstyle holds deep significance, serving as a connection to his cultural heritage and ancestors.</p>

<p>"It means a lot to me. It's my roots, you know. It's how I feel closer to my people, closer to my ancestors," George said before the hearing.</p>

<p>"I started my dreads for a reason, and that's just to feel closer to my people," he added.</p>

<p>However, the school's refusal to accommodate his hairstyle has left him feeling marginalised and with a lack of proper educational experience.</p>

<p>Following the court ruling, George's legal representative, Allie Booker, announced intentions to appeal the decision in federal court. Despite the family's efforts to challenge the school's policy, Barbers Hill High School maintains its stance, denying any discriminatory treatment towards George.</p>

<p>An Afro hairstyle is often associated with people of colour who have African heritage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jules said that he declined to appear for the final interview as it was the first time he was officially told that an Afro hairstyle was not acceptable.</p>

<p>“I want to make sure that things like this don’t happen again,” he said, as quoted by The Guardian “It’s about inclusivity and black professionalism.”</p>

<p>“The word Afro&nbsp;itself is obviously indicative of Africans and after reading that I don’t feel comfortable going to the interview," he told Metro.</p>

<p>The Ritz apologised to Jules. Guardian said that in a statement, Ritz claimed that Jules was sent an out-of-date policy and had offered “unreserved apology for this error”</p>

<p>However, Jules felt that the apology was “disingenuous and lacklustre”.</p>

<p>“The policy was updated in June 2021, so this is not something that was written 10 or 20 years ago. It’s a recent policy that shows a lack of awareness about being inclusive to people of colour,” he told The Guardian.</p>

<p>“The Ritz London does not condone discrimination of any form and we are genuinely committed to fostering an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment for all of our colleagues and guests,” said spokesperson of the Ritz as quoted in various media reports.</p>
