The Great Resignation – a name given to the phenomenon – involved almost all major companies in various sectors and the survey found that the salaries paid a big role in employees opting for other opportunities. It was also clear from the salary negotiations that were studied in the survey.&nbsp;

“Employee perceptions of pay equity aren’t rooted in compensation," Tony Guadagni, senior principal in the Gartner human resources practice, said in a statement according to The Mint. &nbsp;

However, the survey also said that the general perception is not in sync with the reality. Official data suggests that companies have worked towards closing pay gaps. According to the survey, eight in 10 organisations conducted annual pay equity audits to understand the situation better in 2022.&nbsp;

Experts have warned that Tesla chief Elon Musk's warning to fire anyone who did not work in the office 40 hours a week can trigger a mass exodus.

They believe that after Musk's ultimatum many of the 100,000 people employed at the electric carmaker may already be considering their options.

According to Stanford University economics professor Nicholas Bloom, "Tesla is kick-starting its own local Great Resignation."

Bloom has predicted that while 10 per cent of Tesla's will quit about 30 per cent would look for another job owing to a lack of work-life balance.

America's "Great Resignation" which began during the pandemic continues as the US Bureau of Labour Statistics in a report said 4.5 million Americans quit their jobs in March in professional and business services including in the construction industry.

The bureau said layoffs were "little changed at 1.4 million". "In March, the job openings rate increased in establishments with 50 to 249 employees and establishments with 250 to 999 employees," it said.

Job openings in the US increased in retail and durable goods manufacturing however it decreased in transportation, warehousing and&nbsp;utilities.

Local and state government education and federal government jobs fell even as job openings increased in the southern region, the data revealed.

In fact, the bureau stated that the number of "job openings was little changed at 11.5 million" which was the "highest level in the history of the series which began in December 2000."

Randstad NV, a Dutch multinational human resource consulting firm, stated that the phenomenon of 'Great Resignation' is not showing any signs of easing and is here to stay, Bloomberg reported. The report added that the supply of workers, which is already gradually diminishing is likely to persist.&nbsp;

Sander van ‘t Noordende took over as chief executive officer of Randstad NV recently. Noordende said that fewer people in the job market are allowing talented workers to have more options and they are going where their needs are met.&nbsp;

In US, 4.5 million people handed in their resignations in November, an all-time monthly high, according to newly released government data.&nbsp;

The number tops the previous high of 4.4 million people who left their jobs in September. The US Department of Labor reported that over 1 million workers quit in November alone from leisure and hospitality companies, such as restaurants, bars and hotels. In comparison with the previous year, that's a 60 per cent increase for the industry, one of the largest employers.

The data shows that the "Great Resignation," as some experts prefer to call it, continues apace amid a very tight labour market. In a highly competitive labour market, employers are raising wages and offering incentives such as hiring bonuses, which is leading to many employees quitting lower-paying jobs in order to take up more lucrative positions.&nbsp;

Liz Wilke, the chief economist at payroll services company Gusto, told CBS MoneyWatch that the quit rate in November was really big, absolutely and relatively. This is a reflection of the economic recovery and momentum of the economy, he added.

Based on Gusto's clients' reports, the quit rate is expected to remain high in December, as the same percentage of workers quit in November. Wilke noted that most turnover occurs in lower-paying industries, where employees are moving to new jobs to find higher pay, greater flexibility, and better benefits.

The economy hired 6.7 million workers even as 4.5 million people quit their jobs, tweeted Heidi Shierholz, former chief economist at the Labor Department and now president of Economic Policy Institute.&nbsp;

"People who quit are taking other jobs, not leaving the workforce," Shierholz noted.&nbsp;
