A US-based sports journalist, who was briefly detained in Qatar for wearing a rainbow shirt as a way of expressing support for LGBTQ, has died.&nbsp;Grant Wahl (49) collapsed on Friday while covering the World Cup quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands.&nbsp; According to media reports, Wahl suddenly lost consciousness while being seated in the press box at Lusail Iconic Stadium during extra time.

Emergency services were called in and quickly took Wahl to a hospital. It was later declared that the journalist had died.

“NPR can confirm the death of longtime soccer sportswriter Grant Wahl. He died today in Doha, Qatar while covering the Argentina-Netherlands World Cup quarterfinal (sic),” an NPR reporter tweeted late on Friday

US Soccer in a tweet said it was “heartbroken to learn that we have lost Grant Wahl.”

Grant’s brother Eric in a video posted on Instagram on Friday announced his death while suspecting&nbsp;foul play.

"My name is Eric Wahl. I live in Seattle, Washington.&nbsp;I am Grant Wahl's brother," he said announcing his brother's death on Instagram.

"I am gay, I am the reason he wore the rainbow shirt to the World Cup. My brother was healthy, he told me he received death threats. I do not believe my brother just died. I believe he was killed, and I just beg for any help."

Notably, a few days earlier, Wahl had visited a medical clinic in Qatar due to high stress.

"My body finally broke down on me. Three weeks of little sleep, high stress and lots of work can do that to you,'' Wahl wrote in his blog.

"What had been a cold over the last 10 days turned into something more severe on the night of the USA-Netherlands game, and I could feel my upper chest take on a new level of pressure and discomfort.”

"I didn't have Covid (I test regularly here), but I went into the medical clinic at the main media center today, and they said I probably have bronchitis. They gave me a course of antibiotics and some heavy-duty cough syrup, and I'm already feeling a bit better just a few hours later. But still: No bueno.''

Wahl was earlier associated with Sports Illustrated before launching his own website Substack.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Thackeray said: "On November 16, 2013, a proposal was submitted to the central government on the basis of a report by an expert committee established by the government of Maharashtra regarding grant of status of elite language to Marathi."

"The Marathi language fulfils the criteria required to attain elite language status. Despite repeatedly pursuing elite language status, the matter is pending with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the central government," he added.

The first tranche under the funding programme was tabled in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Finance P.P. Chaudhary.

It was sanctioned by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The supplementary grant is being sought to meet the expenditure towards recapitalisation of public sector banks (PSBs) through the issue of government securities.&nbsp;

Currently, the banks are reeling under non-performing assets (NPAs) which had increased from Rs 2.75 lakh in March 2015 to Rs 7.33 crore in June 2017.

Earlier in October, the Finance Minister Jaitley announced an unprecedented PSB recapitalisation program of Rs. 2.11 lakh crore, out of which Rs. 1.35 lakh crore will come from recap bonds, and rest from markets and budgetary support.

Jaitley also stated that there is a need to increase public investment and bold steps will be taken by the government to recapitalise banks in the country.&nbsp;

The project is being funded by China Communications Construction Company and was launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September 2014 during a visit to Colombo. 
 
Beijing has been accused of seeking to develop facilities around the Indian Ocean in a &quot;string of pearls&quot; strategy to counter the rise of rival India and secure its own economic interests. 
 
But Senaratne said the government had decided to go ahead with the project under new terms. Colombo would set up an offshore banking centre to compete with Dubai and Singapore, he said. 
 
The reclamation represents the biggest-ever single foreign investment in Sri Lanka. It will add 269 hectares (672 acres) of real estate in the congested capital, which has a population of over 650,000. Once completed, the Chinese will have 108 hectares (266 acres) on a 99-year lease for commercial development. 
 
Earlier, 20 hectares of that was to be on a freehold basis. Under the agreement, the Sri Lankan government will get 62 hectares (153 acres) and the rest will be public parks and access roads. 
 
China, the largest single lender to Sri Lanka, secured contracts to build roads, railways, and ports under Rajapakse, who is under investigation over allegations of corruption during his decade in power. 
 
The administration of President Maithripala Sirisena says the terms negotiated by the previous government were unfavourable. But it has still decided to go ahead with many of the Chinese-funded projects.
