As per a new research, men enjoy a significant advantage over women when they apply for any Chinese government jobs. The Inspection Squad for Workplace Gender Discrimination&nbsp;analysed the data of annual recruitment drive for the national civil service and discovered that more government positions were kept reserved for men in comparison to w omen.

The report, which was first published early in December, observed the job requirements for all government positions which were advertised in October, one month before the annual civil service exam which all candidates need to pass if they wish to secure a permanent government job.

It was found by the team that in around 40,000 jobs which were advertised, many had specified that they were “men-only” or “women-only” job opportunities. In these job opportunities, 10,981 jobs were earmarked for men in comparison to only 7,550 for women.

The difference between the two genders equates to around 8.7 per cent of all the jobs which were advertised. In the data's further analysis, it was found that the situation of gender discrimination is worst in the provincial bureaus of central government agencies, like the People’s Bank of China or the Ministry of Railways, where more than 40 per cent of the job opportunities have gender preferences.

Among the different positions, only the revenue service, census, statistics and customs agencies have an even gender split while the others have been hiring more men than women.

“Those who do not take part in the exam or do not sign up for particular positions may not realise the obvious gender restrictions in the exam,” said the author of the report, who uses the alias Wang Lin. “We wanted to give an objective description of the situation," he added, the South China Morning Post reported.&nbsp;

Wang is among the group of volunteers who have been making efforts for the past nine years to improve workplace gender equality, using social media to mention in public examples of gender discrimination and filing complaints to government departments.

This year, a record 2.83 million applicants applied to appear in the exams amid the sluggish economic recovery of the country, which topped the 2.5 million that signed up in 2022.

The South China Morning Post, while looking into the requirements for the applications of this year on the government’s website, found that many “remarks” which were mentioned under the postings included additional job requirements which were not mentioned in the official job description.&nbsp;

Sri Lanka's new austerity drive: No government jobs

He said that "then only" will we able to control India's population growth.&nbsp;

"To control population of the country, voting rights, jobs and treatment facilities should be taken away from people who give birth to more than two kids and whether they are Hindu or Muslims. Then only the population will be controlled," ANI quoted Ramdev as saying.&nbsp;

Ramdev made his statement in Aligarh where he was inaugurating a Patanjali shop.&nbsp;

ANI quoted him as telling reporters that people with more than two children should not be allowed to contest elections, their children should be denied admission to government schools, they should not be allowed treatment at government hospitals, and they should be disallowed from taking government jobs.&nbsp;

This is not the first time Ramdev has voiced the sentiment. In November last year, Ramdev said people like him who never get married should be given "special honours".&nbsp;

"In this country, people like me, who never get married, should receive a special honour. Those who get married and produce more than two children should be denied voting rights," Ramdev had said.&nbsp;

Bangladesh on Wednesday abolished a controversial quota system for civil service jobs that had been the target of major street protests that paralysed parts of the country earlier this year.

The cabinet announced the end of the decades-long policy that reserved more than half of all government jobs for the offspring of veterans from Bangladesh's war of independence and disadvantaged ethnic minorities.

Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said quotas set aside for top-tier public service positions would be scrapped entirely, but some reservations for lower-level positions would remain.

Recruitment for the most sought-after jobs would be determined by examination only, he said, adding a government decree to that effect would be issued later in the week.

The contentious quota scheme was the subject of enormous rallies in April that brought Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority democracy of 160 million, to a standstill and saw more than 100 injured.

Tens of thousands of students demanded reforms of rules granting almost one-third of highly sought-after government jobs to the descendants of veterans of the 1971 war. Protesters also wanted to reduce the quota for ethnic minorities to 10 per cent of government jobs.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose father led Bangladesh's push for independence from Pakistan, had long refused to amend the system.

There was no immediate response to the government's announcement from protest leaders, some of whom were detained in a sweeping crackdown in recent months by Bangladesh's security forces.

Human rights groups have warned Hasina's administration is clamping down on dissent in the lead up to elections in December. Her main opponent, Khaleda Zia, was jailed on corruption charges in February.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday announced two per cent reservation in state government jobs for sportspersons.&nbsp

The announcement came on the same day when Rao facilitated the 18 Indian athletes who participated in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at the Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad.

A senior official of the State government said currently two per cent seats in educational institutions were reserved for sportspersons.

Telangana announces 2% quota for sportspersons in government jobs

Several websites in Bangladesh including those of the Bangladesh government, PM Office and the president’s office Bangabhaban were hacked following protest against quotas in government jobs on Tuesday, reports said.&nbsp;

As per reports, the websites were replaced with a page that showed messages related to the quota reform along with a picture of the ongoing protest.&nbsp;

Reportedly, there have also been a number of attempts to hack the National Portal for quite a few days. The websites of home ministry, education ministry and agriculture ministry and the same of public service commission (PSC) were found hacked around 12am Wednesday.

Telecommunications and Information Technology (ICT) Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that the intelligent department was in process of solving the issue and find the ones responsible for the cyber attack.&nbsp;

The officials said that primary registration of around one-and-a-half crore candidates has been received by the Railway Recruitment Board online for recruitment to various Group C and Group D posts. 
 
The last date for submission of applications is March 31 and applications have been invited for over 89,000 posts, 26,502 vacancies for Group C and 62,907 for Group D.
