Wait just got shorter for HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, ‘House of the Dragon’.&nbsp;

According to latest confirmation from the network, the ‘GoT’ prequel will start filming from April, 2021. The confirmation was made during the Television Critics' Association panel.

‘House of the Dragon’ is co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who will act as co-showrunner alongside Miguel Sapochnik. Sapochnik directed some of the most memorable GOT episodes, including ‘The Bells,’ ‘The Long Night’ and ‘Battle of the Bastards’.

According to Deadline, HBO and HBO Max CCO Casey Bloys said, "We're thrilled with Miguel and Ryan, their collaboration and their collaboration with us, and excited to get going.”

The 10-episode series, ‘House of the Dragon’ will star British actor Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen. It will tell the story of the Targaryen civil war that took place about 300 years before the events portrayed in GOT.

"Viserys was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal," the official character description for King Viserys reads. "A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather's legacy, but as we've learned from Game of Thrones, good men do not necessarily make for great kings."

Last December, HBO released concept art for the new dragons featured in the series. The renderings depict one dragon's face up from up close, with dark red scales and saliva dripping from its teeth. The other photo depicts an orange dragon with spikes on its tail, wings and head.

HBO Max CCO Bloys added that the network is "talking about areas to develop, which is where this prequel came from," Deadline reported, but didn't offer much detail on potential other prequels.

"We are talking about other areas that make sense as well," he said. "George R.R. Martin's world is so big and what's interesting about it, not only is it big but he's got a lot of road maps in terms of history. So one of the great things about House of the Dragon is that's an established history that leads you to Game of Thrones the show, and there is a lot of little branches. There is a lot of opportunities and stories to tell."

It's been more than a month since we bid adieu to HBO's insanely popular show 'Game of Thrones', and while fans are still reeling over its end, author George R R Martin, shared some new details about the state of Westeros in HBO's upcoming prequel of the epic fantasy drama, a series that so far has been kept under wraps. 
 
Martin, who wrote the 'Song of Ice and Fire' book series on which 'Game of Thrones' is based, is also serving as the executive producer of the prequel.&nbsp; 
 
While few specifics are known, the series is set thousands of years before the events of 'GoT' and chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes to the rise of the White Walkers and the near-destruction of man. 
 
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 70-year-old author suggested fans will see some of their favourite families and creatures, though the prequel predates the appearance of dragons. 
 
"The Starks will definitely be there. Obviously, the White Walkers are here -- or as they're called in my books, 'The Others' -- and that will be an aspect of it. There are things like dire wolves and mammoths," he said. 
 
While some followers may be happy to dig deeper into the Stark family's story, Martin confirmed at least one notable family hasn't yet risen to power in the prequel's Westeros. 
 
"The Lannisters aren't there yet, but Castlery Rock is certainly there; it's like the Rock of Gibraltar. It's actually occupied by the Casterlys -- for whom it's still named after in the time of 'Game of Thrones'," he said. 
 
Martin also revealed that Westeros at this time is divided into about 100 "petty kingdoms."&nbsp; 
 
He shared that the kingdoms of Westeros had been slowly consolidated over the years until the famous Seven Kingdoms at the time of Aegon's conquest. 
 
The prequel series was rumoured to be titled 'The Long Night', but Martin told EW other suggestions are being considered.&nbsp;He said 'The Longest Night' is an option he "wouldn't mind." 
 
Rest of the details regarding the prequel series, which is headed by showrunner Jane Goldman are being kept under wraps.

"The scale of `Game of Thrones`s` success has -- reaching all over the world and invading the culture to [such an extent] -- it`s not something anyone could ever anticipate, not something I expect to ever experience again," Variety quoted Martin as saying on `Maltin on Movies` podcast. 
 
"My experience with `Game of Thrones` just confirms that Goldman had it right: Nobody knows anything. Don`t let anyone tell you what`s produce-able, not produce-able," Martin added. 
 
The author also shared that there are parents who are naming their kids after their favourite character from the show, on which he joked, "Kindergarten teachers are going to hate me, with the "a" and the "y," when all these little Daeneryses start hitting school." 
 
After the final season of the show started airing in April, some disappointed fans stormed the social media criticising the makers of creating the season in a hurry. 
 
Commenting on fans` outrage, Martin said the Internet is `toxic`. 
 
"The Internet is toxic in a way that old fanzine culture and fandoms -- comics fans, science fiction fans -- in those days, was not. There were disagreements. There were feuds, but nothing like the madness that you see on the internet," he added.
