The film premiered at approximately 3,000 locations on its opening day, according to a news agency. Heavy on the VFX, 'Gemini Man'&nbsp;follows Henry Brogan (Smith), an elite assassin who becomes the target of a mysterious operative who can seemingly predict his every move. 
 
Much to his horror, Brogan soon gets to know about the mystery man trying to kill him who is none other than his 25-year younger clone. 
 
Directed by Ang Lee, the action-thriller is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Prior to it, Smith starred in Disney's live-action film 'Aladdin'&nbsp;which became his first biggest hit to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/aladdin-continues-to-reign-at-box-office-surpasses-800m-mark-worldwide-233726">surpass $1 billion</a>. In the film which opened in theatres on May 24, he played the role of Genie.

Actor Will Smith said it was 'a little freaky' to see a digitally-generated 23-year-old version of himself on screen in the clone movie 'Gemini Man'.

In the action thriller, which had its Hollywood premiere on Sunday (October 6), Smith plays Henry Brogan, an elite assassin who finds himself pursued by a younger clone of himself, known as Junior.

"It's really different, it's not de-ageing, right, so it's not my face and they just made it look younger, it's a 100 per cent digital character. It's the first-ever 100% digital human," Smith said on the red carpet.

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee and special-effects technicians at Weta Digital production house built the virtual version of Smith using special cameras and drawing on old footage of the actor as a young man.

Lee pushed the technical boundaries even further by shooting the movie at 120 frames per second - five times faster than a regular movie, giving clarity and detail to the film.

"We're in a digital era. A lot of new possibilities. And, of course, at the end of the day, you tell human stories and you entertain people. That hasn't changed. But the new tools are quite incredible. I think it might change our perception of movies because you're more inside of it," Lee said.

Actor Benedict Wong described the process of acting alongside the younger version of Smith, joking that the digital character was 'a right diva'.

"We had Victor, who was Will's body double, who'd shoot that scene and then we would go into the studio with the Weta cameras and we'd look at the performance, how we'd shot and then Will would then switch into the young Will and then we would replicate our movements, yeah. Will Smith in a leotard, I can't unsee that now," he said.

In the new trailer released, the two Will Smiths fight it out both physically and psychologically. The older Smith is a 51-year-old assassin while the younger Smith is a 23-year-old assassin out to kill him.&nbsp;

Speaking about it earlier, Will said, "When I first saw it. It was freaky. It was me. I was looking at the perfect 23-year-old version of me, like somebody took all the flaws out. It's cinematically astounding. This is going to change how movies are made, and how movies are seen."&nbsp;

It’s hard to kill this clone as the guy knows what Will plans to do even before he does it. The younger clone is a younger version of Will that has been made possible with de-ageing VFX technology.&nbsp;

This is not the first film that the technology has been used in. The last we saw this in was ‘Captain Marvel’ where Samuel L Jackson, who is now 70 was made to look decades younger.

‘Gemini Man’ also stars Clive Owen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Benedict Wong. The highly anticipated feature, which has a release date of Oct. 11, 2019, is just one of many films Will’s involved in this year.&nbsp;
