<p>A bench of the NGT, headed by its Chairperson AK Goel, on Monday directed the Chief Secretary to take appropriate actions within two months and file a report on the matter. It has been listed for further hearing on November 3.</p>

<p>The tribunal also directed the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&amp;CC) that it may also constitute an expert committee to suggest ways and means to revamp the monitoring mechanism to check and prevent violation of environmental norms and preventing any such recurrence in future in any of the establishments dealing with hazardous chemicals.</p>

<p>The NGT has asked the ministry to file an action taken report within three months.The bench directed that the Rs 50 crores deposited by the company with the District Magistrate, Visakhapatnam will stand appropriated towards part liability and interim compensation to be spent for restoration of the environment and compensation for the victims in accordance with the restoration plan to be prepared.</p>

<p>"Restoration plan may be prepared by a committee comprising two representatives each of MoEF&amp;CC, Central Pollution Control Board and three representatives of the state government to be named by the Chief Secretary, including the District Magistrate, Visakhapatnam, and such other concerned departments within two months from today.</p>

<p>“The air quality monitoring conducted over the past two days by a private laboratory in the affected areas of Keamari found the air extremely polluted, but the levels of pollutants, particularly two harmful gases, didn’t cross the limits where they could endanger a human life,” the report said quoting a&nbsp;privy to the study conducted by the private laboratory.</p>

<p>Amid confusing statements from different agencies, the people continued to suffer as the authorities only promised to evacuate them without proper planning and arrangements on ground.</p>

<p>The leak was first reported on Sunday. The hydrogen sulfide has been mixing with the normal air and spreading with the wind. So far, the leak has claimed the lives of 14 people.</p>

<p>Reports suggest that overnight another 62 more people have been hospitalised.</p>

The situation in Pakistan over the toxic gas leak continues to worsen. 62 more people were hospitalised overnight even as Pakistan authorities blamed a cargo ship containing soybean of emitting hydrogen sulfide. 14 people have died so far due to the gas leak. Amid confusing statements from different agencies, the people continued to suffer as the authorities only promised to evacuate them without proper planning and arrangements on ground. According to the US consulate's air quality tracker in Karachi, the AQI is 117 which is slightly worrisome for people with respiratory diseases but the good news is, the AQI has been coming down consistently over the last 24 hours. Di-ammonium phosphate (DPA) leaked from the DAP Fertiliser Company Limited on the bank of Karnaphuli river where a 500-tonne ammonia tank exploded late on Monday night, news agency, AFP, said. The firefighters battled till late morning to plug the leakage.<br />

Chittagong&#39;s deputy commissioner Mesbahuddin Ahmed said the situation was under control as the source of the leakage has been plugged.<br />

Ahmed said 56 were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital after the gas leak. None is in a critical condition.<br />
