Two people died after being swept away in floodwaters in central Vietnam, state media reported Saturday.

Almost 500 houses were inundated with water in recent days, according to Vietnam's disaster management authority.&nbsp;

The coastal city of Da Nang has been hit with heavy rain, as have areas from Ha Tinh to Quang Nam provinces since Tuesday.

A 61-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy drowned in the floods, according to state media website VnExpress.

Around 5,000 people were evacuated from homes in Da Nang on Friday night and Saturday morning, it said.

"The floodwater rose to my thighs and all of my family had to move upstairs, before the rescuers came and evacuated us," city resident Dinh Thi Tu Uyen told VnExpress.

In Hue city on Friday, roads flooded by the Perfume River, with water reaching nearly chest-high levels in some areas.

Last weekend three people died in flash floods and landslides in northern Vietnam.

Heavy rain is forecast to continue across the middle of the Southeast Asian nation in coming days.

Vietnam is frequently lashed by harsh weather in the rainy season between June and November.

Natural disasters including floods and landslides have claimed around 100 lives in the country since the beginning of the year, according to the country's General Statistics Office.&nbsp;

A&nbsp;New&nbsp;Zealand&nbsp;bull&nbsp;has been hailed a "legend" after it was swept along a flooded river and survived going over a waterfall before being dumped 80 kilometres (50 miles) downstream.

South Island farmer Tony Peacock said the 18-month-old&nbsp;bull&nbsp;was one of three washed away earlier this month when the West Coast region experienced its worst flooding in almost 80 years.

"We had a massive dump of water that we weren't expecting and just got caught out by not having stock on higher ground," he told AFP.

"It was daylight by the time I realised how bad it was and by that stage they were gone. I never thought I'd see any of them again."

But a week later, Peacock received a call saying one of his bulls had been found on the riverbank at Westport, about 80 kilometres away.

"It was a big surprise, as you can imagine," he said, noting the&nbsp;bull&nbsp;survived a 10-metre drop at the Maruia Falls during its watery adventure.

He said the Hereford breed&nbsp;bull, which was identified by an ear tag, is being transported back to the farm and would be retired after returning home.

"We'll be keeping him, he's become a local legend now," he said.

"He's more famous than anything else we've produced."

Peacock said the local school is now holding a competition to find a suitable name for the celebrity heavyweight.

The huge floods have forced authorities to release water from one of the largest dams in the area, which has left some of the cities downstream under threat.

A "significant amount" of floodwater from Karkheh started moving toward Ahvaz on Sunday, according to city mayor Mansour Katanbaf.

"We've been trying to manage the water ... most of it has been diverted toward other channels and what's left is being handled," Katanbaf told ISNA.

Authorities ordered the evacuation of six new cities along the Karkheh river on Saturday as the situation neared "critical" status.

According to ISNA, a total of 210 villages along the river have been evacuated, 61 of which are now flooded.
