Immediately after having lost the elections, Marin had declared her intention to step down as the chair of the centre-left Social Democrats.

She had said her new priority would be focusing on personal life, after four tumultuous years of serving her nation as the prime minister.

She grabbed world attention and made headlines across the globe in 2019 when she became Finland’s youngest ever person to assume the PM role at the age of 34.

In her four years, she led the nation through the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis. In her later years, she ended Finland’s neutrality over the Russia vs NATO conflict and openly backed Ukraine.&nbsp;

In a speech delivered on Friday before stepping down as the party chair, she again launched a scathing attack on Finland’s eastern neighbour.

"Russia and its representatives must be held accountable for the illegal crime of aggression, war crimes and the consequences of war," Marin said.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has shown that Europe is too reliant on the United States for its own security, Finland's Prime Minister&nbsp;Sanna&nbsp;Marin&nbsp;said on Friday. Marin, who is in Australia, said that Europe's defences need to be strengthened. Notably, Finland is awaiting membership to NATO.&nbsp; 
 
"I must be brutally honest with you, Europe isn't strong enough right now," she said while addressing the Lowy Institute think tank in Sydney on Friday. "We would be in trouble without the United States."

She added that she had spoken with many US&nbsp;politicians who had said they think Europe should be stronger.

"The United States has given a lot of weapons, a lot of financial aid, a lot of humanitarian aid to Ukraine and Europe isn't strong enough yet,"&nbsp;Marin&nbsp;said.

U.S. is the biggest arms supplier to Ukraine and has been providing Kyiv with major military aid in its ongoing war against Russia. A research suggests that Washington has till date committed $18.6 billion to Ukraine ever since the start of the war. European Union comes in second, followed by the UK, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.&nbsp;

Marin said that European countries' own stocks are now depleting and the countries need to look for ways to bolster European defences.

Europe must ensure that it is "building those capabilities when it comes to European defence, European defence industry, and making sure that we could cope in different kinds of situations,"&nbsp;she added.

As per estimates, the US spent a little over 3.7 per cent of its GDP on defence in 2020. The average stood at 1.77 per cent for NATO's European members. Notably, Donald Trump had been critical of European countries that are a part of NATO for not spending enough on defence.

Marin also called out&nbsp;some European countries for trying to build closer ties with Russia in&nbsp; the recent decades.

"For a long time, Europe was building a strategy for Russia... to buy energy from Russia and to closen those economic ties, and we thought that this would prevent the war," she said. But it has "proven entirely wrong".

Marin further said that European countries should have been more alert to the warnings from Poland and the Baltics, who had said that Russia does not "care about their economic ties, they don't care about the sanctions, they don't care about any of that" when it comes to invading Ukraine.

Sanna Marin, the 36-year-old prime minister of Finland, was found not guilty of any misconduct on Friday after an official investigation over a leaked video depicting her partying in August.&nbsp;

After the prime minister was pictured dancing and having a good time with friends and famous people, sparking headlines around the world, dozens of complaints were made to Finland's chancellor of justice.&nbsp;

However, the chancellor, a separate body tasked with monitoring the constitutionality of government actions and to which any citizen may file a complaint, came to the conclusion that Marin had not disregarded her obligations as prime minister.

There was "no reason to suspect the prime minister of unlawful conduct in the performance of her duties or of neglect of her official duties," Chancellor of Justice Tuomas Poysti concluded.

At the time of the scandal, Marin said she spent "an evening with friends" and that the videos were "filmed in private premises".

"I am human. And I too sometimes long for joy, light and fun amidst these dark clouds," she said.

There were complaints made to the chancellor that Marin was unqualified to serve as prime minister "due to alcohol consumption," that she acted inappropriately for the position, and that she endangered Finland's "reputation and security."&nbsp;

In response to allegations that references to drugs were made at a party she attended, Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) said she is willing to take a drug test if necessary.

"I have nothing to hide. I have never taken drugs, "she said.

Marin's remarks come after opposition Finns Party chair Riikka Purra called on her to voluntarily take a drug test during an interview with Helsingin Sanomat (in Finnish). Mikko Kärnä, an MP with Marin's coalition partners, the Centre Party, made a similar call on Twitter (siirryt toiseen palveluun).

At Kuopio Airport, where she was attending her party's summer congress, Marin told journalists that she didn't understand why she was being pressured to take a drug test.

"I have seen no evidence that anything has been used anywhere," she said.

She was caught red-handed for Covid time party too

Sanna Marin apologised last year for going clubbing after coming into contact with a COVID-19 case.

Sanna Marin went out for a night on the town in Helsinki just hours after her foreign minister tested positive.

She was told she didn't need to isolate because she was fully vaccinated, but she later missed a text advising her to do so.

Critics had questioned her decision not to isolate herself until the testing results were negative.

Finland has bagged the top spot for being world's happiest country for a fourth year running, as per an annual report sponsored by the United Nations. In World Happiness Report Researchers used Gallup data and asked people in 149 countries to rate their own happiness. It also took into account measures such as GDP, social support, personal freedom and levels of corruption to give each nation a happiness score, which is an average of the past three years.&nbsp;

Top spots were dominated by European countries. Denmark was in second place followed by Switzerland, Iceland and the Netherlands.

New Zealand, falling one place to ninth, was again the only non-European nation in the top ten.&nbsp;

Other climbers included Germany, up from 17th to 13th, and France, rising two to 21st.&nbsp;

The UK, meanwhile, fell from 13th to 17th place, while the US fell one spot to 19th.&nbsp;

African nations Lesotho, Botswana, Rwanda and Zimbabwe came at the bottom of the table, but ahead of&nbsp; 
Afghanistan which was classed as the world's unhappiest nation this year.

The authors also compared this year's data to previous years' averages to gauge the impact of the pandemic, and found "significantly higher frequency of negative emotions" in just over a third of the countries.

But positive emotions increased in 22 countries, and "surprisingly there was not, on average, a decline in well-being when measured by people's own evaluation of their lives," John Helliwell, one of the report's compilers, said in a statement.

"One possible explanation is that people see Covid-19 as a common, outside threat affecting everybody and that this has generated a greater sense of solidarity and fellow-feeling."&nbsp;

Author Jeffrey Sachs meanwhile warned that "we need urgently to learn from Covid-19," adding that "we must aim for wellbeing rather than mere wealth."&nbsp;
