Chad's junta leader General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno won the African nation's May 6 presidential election with 61 percent of the vote, according to final results announced Thursday.

The Constitutional Council, which declared the winner, also rejected a bid by Prime Minister Succes Masra to annul the result.

Masra, who had claimed victory, said in a social media message that he did not agree with the results but added: "there is no other national legal recourse." He called on supporters to "remain mobilised" but "peaceful".

Deby called the election to end three years of military rule in a country crucial in the fight against jihadism across Africa's restive Sahel region. The regime has long muzzled opposition figures, however, and Deby's main rival was killed in February.

Deby made no immediate comment after being proclaimed winner. But following the release of provisional results on May 9, he declared himself "the elected president of all Chadians" and promised to make good on his "commitments".

Deby easily won the vote. Masra came second with 18.5 percent, while former prime minister Albert Pahimi Padacke won 16.9 percent, Constitutional Council president Jean-Bernard Padare said on Thursday.

Masra, once a fierce Deby opponent before becoming prime minister four months ago, had already accused the junta chief's team of rigging the results. But he has rarely appeared in public since the election.

Early in the campaign, observers predicted a massive win for 40-year-old Deby, whose late father ruled Chad for three decades before him.

Masra, a 40-year-old economist, surprised everyone by gathering huge crowds during his campaign, leading him to claim he could win or push Deby into a second round.

Opponents had called for a boycott of the vote, dismissing it as fixed.

The prime minister faced opposition accusations of being a stooge. Observers are now questioning whether Masra will remain prime minister.

If Masra's supporters stage protests against Deby's election, it could pave the way for violence as opposition demonstrations are systematically repressed.

The country has been marked by coups, authoritarian governments and rebel attacks since its independence from France in 1960.

He promised an 18-month transition to democracy but then extended it by two years.

According to FADA, which tracks sales of vehicles by dealers to consumers, this sales figure could be attributed to the increasing consumer inclination towards launches of new models in India. It added that the interest would not decline in May. &nbsp;

"The auto industry remains cautiously optimistic about its near-term outlook," it said. Since the auto sector contributes approximately 7% to India’s economy, auto sales are keenly being monitored as a key indicator of private consumption in India.&nbsp;

After dropping more than 6% in March, retail car sales increased nearly 16% in April, FADA said. On the other hand, two-wheelers continued to witness heavy demand, facilitated by festive buying in parts of North India and many new launches.

The two former military commanders told the Brazilian Federal Police that Bolsonaro had allegedly presented them with a plan during meetings at the presidential palace on December 7, 2022.&nbsp;

However, in their testimonies, Gomes and Baptista Jr said that they refused to carry out the plan and warned the then-president that they would arrest him if he tried it.&nbsp;

Notably, their statements include the first direct mentions of Bolsonaro’s active participation in conspiring and ignoring the outcome of the 2022 elections.&nbsp;

The testimonies also implicated Navy commander Almir Garnier Santos in the coup plans, who told the then-president that the Naval forces were ready to support him.&nbsp;

On January 8, 2023, thousands of Bolsonaro’s supporters stormed government buildings, including the presidential palace, Congress and Supreme Court, and shut down highways after his loss. Meanwhile, the then-president left for the United States to avoid handing the presidency to Lula.&nbsp;

In February, Brazil’s police seized Bolsonaro’s passport and arrested some of his closest aides amid the ongoing investigation into the alleged coup attempt. However, the former president has denied the allegations against him despite mounting evidence that points to the contrary, while the damning testimonies add to his legal woes.&nbsp;

In the list of donors, it was revealed that a company called Future Gaming and Hotel Services Private Limited made the highest amount of donations.

The company is run by Santiago Martin, who is also known as "Lottery King".

Future Gaming and Hotel Services was earlier called as Martin Lottery Agencies Limited and was founded in 1991 by the 'Lottery King'.

<h2>Who is "Lottery King" Santiago Martin?</h2>

According to Santiago Martin's charitable trust website, the Lottery King first started working as a labourer in Yangon, Myanmar.

He came back to India from Myanmar in 1988 and set up a lottery business in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The firm's website says that Martin set up the lottery business at the age of 13, when "he had managed to develop and secure a vast marketing network of the buyers and sellers of lotteries all over India".

Later, his business expanded in neighbouring states of Kerala and Karnataka before he shifted to the northeast.

In northeast India, he set up his business of managing government lottery schemes. Later, he took his business offshore by setting up entities in Bhutan and Nepal.

As per the website, the 'Lottery King' later diversified his business and entered the sectors of real estate, textiles, hospitality and construction.&nbsp;

"He is also the President of All India Federation of Lottery Trade and Allied Industries – an organisation engaged for uplifting and infusing credibility to the lottery trade in India. Under his stewardship, his enterprise, Future Gaming Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. became a member of the prestigious World Lottery Association and is expanding into the field of Online Gaming &amp; Casinos and Sports Betting," read the website.&nbsp;

His company is a member of the Asia Pacific Lottery Association (APLA) and the World Lottery Association (WLA).&nbsp;

Future Gaming was given accreditation by WLA in 2009 after it matched the criteria for Level 1 of the "WLA Responsible Gaming Framework".&nbsp;

As per the website of Future Gaming, Martin was also the Consul General for Liberia where he established a lottery industry.

Martin is also the president of the All India Federation of Lottery Trade and Allied Industries, which is the lobby of stockists, agents and lottery distributors.

Between 2019 and 2024, Future Gaming and Hotel Services Private Limited donated Rs 13680 million (approx $165 million).

Martin remained under the lens of central investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department for more than a decade and was accused of money laundering and financial fraud in 2011.&nbsp;

In one of the most recent cases, Punjab-based lottery distributor Arunjot Singh Sodhi had filed a case in Punjab and Haryana High Court in August 2023 in which he had alleged that a Rs 9,000 million lottery scam took place in the state.&nbsp;

Sodhi had accused the government of formulating policies and making them in accordance with Martin's preference. The High Court was informed by the state government that they are investigating the allegations made by Sodhi.&nbsp;

In 2021, Martin, his companies and others were accused by the Enforcement Directorate of investing some of the proceeds of crime generated from the Lottery King's business in immovable properties via nearly 40 companies, which have been created using the names of their family members and associates.&nbsp;

IT department officials in 2019 conducted a raid in 70 premises connected to Martin across India.

In 2012, he was arrested and detained in Vellore prison after he faced allegations of carrying out illegal activities.
