Plexes of select metros witnessed growth over the weekend, but the overall total is low... Weekdays crucial... Fri 3.30 cr, Sat 4.65 cr, Sun 5.58 cr. Total: 13.53 cr. India biz. #ELKDTAL.”

The film earned Rs 3.30 crores on its opening day, Rs 4.65 crores on Saturday and minted Rs 5.58 crores on Sunday.

Although the film didn`t have a good start at the box office,<a href="http://www.wionews.com/entertainment/ek-ladki-ko-dekha-toh-aisa-laga-review-anil-and-sonam-kapoors-film-is-heartwarming-194375"> it opened to great reviews </a>from film critics as well as fellow celebrities.

The film will face tough competition from holdovers including Kangana Ranaut’s `Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi`, which is still doing well at the box office and Vicky Kaushal’s `Uri: The Surgical Strike` which is also going strong at the ticket window.

Directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar, the film deals with a same-sex relationship and is pegged as ‘the most unexpected romance of the year.’

Sonam is said to be playing a homosexual character in the film. The trailer of the movie showed her character rejecting several marriage proposals. She eventually shares her secret with Rajkummar Rao, which is implied to be about her sexual preference. The film also stars Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla in pivotal roles.

‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ earns Rs 13. 5 crores within three days of its release

Rajkummar Rao may have emerged as a major draw at the box office but the actor does not believe he is anywhere near the super stardom that the three Khans have in Bollywood. 
 
There is a great churning in Bollywood with content driven films outperforming and outclassing those headlined by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. 
 
Rajkummar, who is the considered one of the faces of this new breed of cinema, however, says it would not be right to compare his stardom with that of the Khans. 
 
"I don't think we can compare superstars and actors like me. The kind of films Aamir sir, Shah Rukh sir and Salman sir have done are amazing. You can't say they are not good just because one of their films did not work. 
 
"They are superstars for some reason and we all love them. I am myself a fan of Khans. We should not compare. We are very new and we have a long way to prove ourselves. I don't think the kind of superstardom that these superstars have seen will ever come back again," Rajkummar told PTI. 
 
The actor believes the mass hysteria and mania around their superstardom is something that all actors yearn for but it just cannot be replicated. 
 
"I want all our films to do well at the box office. But the craze that they have seen is something I don't think is going to comeback. It is very tough. People love these actors, the way people react, shout, hug, cry... The phenomenon is huge." 
 
The 34-year-old actor, whose filmography includes gems like 'Newton', 'Trapped', 'Bareilly Ki Barfi'&nbsp;and 'Stree', among others, rules himself out of the contention of being the next big Bollywood superstar. 
 
"I am very happy doing what I am doing and if it takes me there, good. But let me tell you I am happy in this space." 
 
The actor had five releases in 2018 but it was Amar Kaushik's 'Stree' &nbsp;that did the wonders for Rajkummar at the box office. He also starred in critically-acclaimed films ' Omerta' &nbsp;and 'Love Sonia'. 
 
"Audience loved these stories more than anything else. Today people are more concerned about the content they are seeing. I always try to offer new things. Since my debut film 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha', I am trying to experiment and push boundaries as an actor. I am happy people are accepting that. It is a feeling of validation as these are the kind of films I was doing earlier and today they are doing great numbers." 
 
Despite his recent success, the actor still reads all his scripts. He says yes to a project only if he feels the story is good. 
 
"I do get a lot of scripts, I don't want to give a number, I can't brag. I get all kinds of scripts from weird to some really interesting ones as well. I have a number of films to choose from.&nbsp; 
 
"I read all my scripts and I don't let other people decide. I believe an actor should invest their time in reading scripts carefully and understanding it. Also, there are filmmakers with whom I wanted to work and now I am getting the opportunity to do so."

About the film, Rajkummar says, "More than the role, the story was unique, so I did the film. It talks about things that are relevant in our society. I liked the role as well. It is the story that I look at first and then comes my role." 
 
The film offers yet another take on LGBTQ issues, something which Rajkummar previously dealt with in Hansal Mehta's 'Aligarh'.&nbsp; 
 
He believes that while 'Aligarh' &nbsp;was a biopic on Aligarh Muslim University professor Ramachandra Siras, 'Ek Ladki..'&nbsp;is a commercial project and an entertaining film. 
 
"This film ('Ek Ladki..') is more about acceptance. This is a family film, relationship drama, it is about friendship, love. I believe there has to be equality, you can't judge someone based on sexual preference. It is their life and who they want as their partners, it is a normal thing," he adds.&nbsp; 
 
He has interesting blend of films up for release this year - 'Mental Hai Kya'&nbsp;with Kangana Ranaut and 'Made in China'. He has also signed a film with Anurag Basu and Hansal Mehta.&nbsp;

Don't think the kind of superstardom Khans saw will ever come back again, says Rajkummar Rao

The latest to join the list of supporters is actress Sonam Kapoor, who while promoting her upcoming film 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' said that while she is a supporter of the #MeToo movement, judgment should be reserved in the case of filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani.

“I am a huge supporter of the #MeToo movement and this is a very important question... This is not the right platform because our film is as important as the movement.

“I know Raju Hirani very well, I have known him for many years and I have huge respect for him as a filmmaker and as a man. I think we all should reserve judgement and be very responsible before we say anything more on this subject.. Because we don’t need to derail this movement,” Sonam said.

Sonam, who has lent her voice to the #MeToo movement in the past, said more understanding is needed about the movement. “Media and all journalists don’t understand how important the pen is, how important your voice is and it can make or break a person’s life. So wait, do proper research and ask what is actually happening and understand what is actually happening. I promise after the film releases, I will have something to say.

“But till things are not clear, don’t make click-bait articles and play with somebody’s life. It will derail the movement completely.” She further added, “I always want to believe a woman but suppose by chance, if it is not true, then how bad it will be for the movement, especially if it is somebody like Raju Hirani.”&nbsp;

The actress urged people to have a better understanding of the issue. “With Tanushree Dutta (who kicked off the #MeToo movement in India last year) there was a lot of truth in the article, there was a lot of research done, lot of people came forward.. So you understand where it is coming from.”

Sonam said she would want to believe every woman but asserted in case of Hirani one needs to reserve judgement. “This film is important and it should not become about that. If I have to sit down and talk about it, I can talk about it at length but we need to be careful about the people we accuse and people whose side we take. You have to take side and I don’t believe in sitting on the fence so I will take my side when I have to,” she said.

"I've worked with Vinod in two films before and it doesn't feel it has been so many years. We have been in touch with each other, I've attended premier of his films, even if I'm not in them. We have had that bond.&nbsp; 
 
"Like other heroes, may be I haven't earned that much money, nor do I have as much money as Vinod, but my goodwill is solid. So it felt very nice when I heard the story and I am honoured to be a part of it," Anil told reporters.&nbsp; 
 
The actor and the producer have earlier worked on 'Parinda' (1989) and '1942: A Love Story' (1994).

Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor starrer 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga' has been a historic film for several reasons. The film also has a transwoman as its writer. Ghazal Dhaliwal, a transwoman writer has been writing dialogues and screenplay for Hindi films for some time now. She has worked on films like 'Lipstick Under My Burkha', 'Qarib Qarib Singlle' and 'Wazir' before. But with 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga' she makes her transition as the story writer of the film. Born as Gunraj, a boy, Ghazal had Gender Dysphoria - where a person does not associate with the biological gender he or she is born with. Back in 2014, on an episode of Alternative Sexualities on Aamir Khan's show 'Satyamev Jayate', Ghazal had recalled how she was always felt like a woman but trapped in a man's body. "I was born in the wrong body. I was born in the body of a man but I never felt like a man. I liked playing with girls, I liked wearing my mother's clothes, playing with her dupattas... when I was 5 years old, I realized that I liked feminine things. My aunt saw me once playing with my mother's clothes, and she slapped me. That was the first time I realized that how society views me, and how I view myself is different," recalled Ghazal. Ghazal's initial years as Gunraj was a struggle. "For the longest time I could not tell people how I felt... because my behaviour was a little feminine, I was teased a lot in school. And I kept trying to hide my identity. For every day, every minute, ever second, I felt trapped... as if I was in jail." She first spoke to her father about her identity at the age of 14 and while they were p[atient, they were unable to understand what she meant. At 16 she fled from home and boarded a train to Delhi but got scared mid-way and called her parents back home. As her father came to take her back home, she admitted that it was not a phase for her.
