The seismic event occurred at a depth of 63 km (39 miles), as reported by EMSC. Following the earthquake, the US tsunami warning system promptly issued a tsunami warning.

After the powerful earthquake jolted the archipelagic country in the Southeast Asia region, tsunamis are expected in the Philippines as well as in Japan.

The Philippine Seismology Agency, PHIVOLCS, has issued a warning that&nbsp;waves are anticipated to reach the Philippines around midnight local time (1600 GMT). It said that the waves may persist for several hours.

Meanwhile, Japan&nbsp;is expected to experience tsunami waves of up to one metre (3 feet) along its western coast around 1:30 am on Sunday (1630 GMT on Saturday), Reuters reported quoting NHK.

The US Geological Survey has assessed the earthquake at a magnitude of 7.6, with a depth of 32 km (20 miles).

At least 16 people were injured after three tremors of over 4 magnitude hit western Nepal's Jajarkot on Monday, days after the country witnessed its worst quake in eight years that claimed the lives of 157 people and left a total of 266 others injured, security agencies said on Tuesday.

The meeting will mainly discuss matters relating to relief and rehabilitation works to be carried out after the earthquake.

On Tuesday, President Ramchandra Paudel will be leaving Kathmandu on an inspection tour to the earthquake-hit districts, Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim, Tuesday afternoon.

In the wake of the Jajarkot earthquake, President Paudel also cancelled his scheduled 10-day visit to Europe starting on Wednesday.

West Java governor Ridwan Kamil and a local official said the death toll from an earthquake on Indonesia's main island of Java on Monday (November 21) had jumped to 162. Reports said that over 700 were injured. Officials have warned the death toll may rise.

The national disaster agency (BNPB), whose data lagged behind local officials on the ground on Monday, told a news conference up to 700 people had been injured and more than 300 homes damaged or destroyed.

Reuters news agency said that the quake was so strong that people rushed out of apartments, and offices.

Geophysics agency BMKG chief Dwikorita Karnawati told reporters at the parliamentary building&nbsp;to stay outdoors in case of aftershocks.

According to officials, the quake caused a minor landslide&nbsp;Cianjur. While two trapped people were rescued, a third one couldn't survive.

&nbsp;"We managed to evacuate a woman and a baby alive, but the other one passed away. That's the only thing I can share for now," Cianjur police chief Doni Hermawan told broadcaster Metro TV, AFP reported.

Another official at the BMKG,&nbsp;Suko Prayitno Adi, said the authorities were checking the extent of the damage caused by the quake.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale.
