A ride that has long been criticized as racist and problematic is finally getting a makeover to remove what the company now admits negative depictions of certain cultures.

Disney Parks has announced that it will be updating the 65-year old Jungle Cruise Ride at both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California. These major changes to the attraction will better “reflect and value the diversity of the world around us,” as per Disney's blog post.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;tribal caricatures that were currently at the site had “negative depictions of native people” in order to make the attraction more inclusive in its depiction of those cultures, they will be removed.&nbsp;When the attraction is finished, new scenes will be added to the story in order to add fresh life, activity, and characters.

“As Imagineers, it is our responsibility to ensure experiences we create and stories we share reflect the voices and perspectives of the world around us,” Carmen Smith, creative development and inclusion strategies executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. “With Jungle Cruise, we’re bringing to life more of what people love – the humor and wit of our incredible skippers, while making needed updates.” Disney engaged several cultural advisers to weigh in.

Executive Chairman Bob Iger also tweeted out his response to the announcement.

Domestic travel has sprung back to life and given the economy a boost after the virus shuttered businesses and scared away tourists following its emergence in Wuhan late last year.

"People are travelling with a vengeance!" said Huo Binxing, a banker from Beijing who is heading to Lhasa in Tibet.&nbsp;

"It's our first chance to unwind after such a stressful period."&nbsp;

Wuhan in central China is back in business too, with visitors thronging to the Yellow Crane Tower -- a Taoist shrine -- according to the country's biggest travel agency Ctrip.

More than 600 million trips will be taken during the holiday, down 20 percent from a year ago, Ctrip estimated, but they will still force the state railway to lay on 1,000 extra trains a day.

Around 108 million passengers will take trains during the eight-day holidays -- around 13.5 million a day.

They are likely to bring much-needed spending to far-flung parts of China -- last year, travellers spent $9.5 billion during the Golden Week.

Many will take luxury holidays at home, travel operator Quanar said, amid global travel restrictions.

But the absence of their tourist dollars this year will leave regional nations — from Thailand to Cambodia — wincing from the economic pain caused by the prolonged closure of borders.&nbsp;

According to The news agency, a statement from the company reads, "While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of COVID-19, the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remain The Walt Disney Company's top priority. The company added that it "has been paying its cast members since the closure of the parks, and in light of this ongoing and increasingly complex crisis, we have made the decision to extend paying hourly parks and resorts cast members through April 18." 
 
This news came soon after the union leaders for both the parks sent letters to the Walt Disney Co., that demanded an update as the staff was becoming more and more anxious with uncertainty. 
 
Universal Studios extended its parks reopen date to April 19. Also in related news, SeaWorld Entertainment on Friday said during a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that the company has temporarily furloughed more than 90 per cent of its current employees as of April 1 due to its parks being closed. 
 
The filing reads, "The furloughed employees will not receive compensation from the Company during the furlough period after March 31, 2020; however, subject to local regulations, these employees will be eligible for unemployment benefits. The furlough period is uncertain at this time due to the temporary park closures and will be reassessed as business conditions dictate." 
 
Currently, California is under a stay-at-home order, meaning all nonessential businesses must stay closed until the order is lifted. It is not clear when that will happen. 
 
The earliest Disney World would have been allowed to reopen in Orlando was 11 p.m. on April 9 under the Orange County stay-at-home order. 
 
On the weekend of March 14, both the Disney parks closed their doors. Disney Paris also closed. The parks&nbsp;shopping districts and hotels along with all Disney stores in North America also closed soon after. 
 
The date pushback announcement came from the Universal Studios, nearly a week after Jeffrey Ghazarian, a 34-year-old California man who died of complications due to the coronavirus, reportedly visited the Florida park (along with Disney World) days before he became ill. 
 
On March 19, Alyson Lundell, spokeswoman for Universal Orlando, told The Hollywood Reporter, "Our thoughts are with this gentleman and his family. As is always the case, we will take our guidance from local health officials."

Many of more than 30,000 houses Typhoon Faxai destroyed or damaged in Chiba last month have yet to be repaired.

Preliminary data suggests the second quarter fared no better, and while the government still hopes for 2-3 per cent growth this year, predictions from major banks are more pessimistic.

The impact of the protests on growth will not be clear until later in the year, but Martin Rasmussen, China Economist at Capital Economics, said the crisis was likely to weigh heavily.

"Now they've become much more extreme, so we think the impact on the economy will begin to take its toll."
