Dhaka immigration plays cupid to find 'suitable match'; post goes viral

A 250-kg live bomb has been found buried at a construction site at the international airport here with experts speculating that the cylinder-like bomb was dropped sometime during Bangladesh's Liberation War against Pakistan in 1971.

Construction workers detected the bomb on Wednesday during their excavation works for an extended terminal of Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HISA), airport officials said.

On information, the bomb disposal unit of the Air Force's Bangabandhu Base rushed to the spot and defused the 250-kg bomb, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Later, the bomb, which army experts called a "live bomb" having explosives inside, was taken to Rasulpur Firing Range in Paharkanchanpur with necessary precautions for its safe and guided explosion.

"It has been identified to be a 'general purpose' bomb which is dropped from the air to inflict damage on enemy troops, vehicles, and buildings," a military bomb expert said.

Bomb experts believe that the bomb was dropped sometime during the Liberation War in 1971.

The man wearing jeans, in his early 20s.&nbsp;was carrying explosives in a trolley bag, which exploded near a police checkpoint monitoring vehicles going towards&nbsp;Hazrat Shahjahal International Airport.

&quot;The bomb carrier himself was killed,&quot; a Dhaka police spokesman, Yusuf Ali, told AFP.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told reporters downplayed the incident, saying it should not be viewed as a terrorist attack.

&quot;The man could have attacked 8-10 law enforcers there if he wanted. But he didn&#39;t want so. So we can&#39;t say that it was an attack. We think the bomb exploded accidentally as the carrier was scared to see law enforcers on the street,&quot; he said.

SITE Intelligence Group, a jihadist threat monitoring portal, said Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police are yet to confirm the bomber&#39;s identity.

The suspected attack is&nbsp;the third since last Friday, when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a camp for the country&#39;s elite security force near the airport.&nbsp;

IS&nbsp;also claimed responsibility for a wave of killings starting&nbsp;2015, including last year&#39;s Dhaka cafe attack&nbsp;in which 22 people were killed.

The Bangladesh government denies&nbsp;the presence of IS in the country&nbsp;and&nbsp;argues a new faction of homegrown extremist group Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was behind that and other attacks.
