The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has written to the BCCI to probe allegations of corruption in the concluded season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL 2026). The DDCA has issued a statement saying it was premature to draw conclusions and to let the ‘respective authorities’ investigate the matter through established processes. Delhi’s cricket authority released this statement hours after a Tehelka report quoted a former Ranji Trophy player claiming to have inside access to team information and the ability to facilitate spot-fixing in the DPL. Also read| How Zaheer Khan came to be CSK's head coach of IPL 2027 "The Delhi and District Cricket Association has taken note of recent reports concerning irregularities involving certain players and a franchise associated with the Delhi Premier League (DPL)," the DDCA said in its statement, without naming the individuals or team. "DDCA would like to clarify that the allegations referred to in these reports are unverified and have not been established by any competent authority. The association believes it would be inappropriate to conclude any individual, player or franchise based solely on such allegations. "Given the seriousness of the matter, DDCA has written to the respective authorities and shared the information that has come to its notice, requesting that the matter be examined through the appropriate established processes. "DDCA believes it is important to distinguish between allegations and established facts and allow the due process to take its course. The association remains committed to safeguarding the integrity, credibility and reputation of cricket in Delhi." Meanwhile, the game in question was the seventh match of DPL 2026, played between Central Delhi Kings and North Delhi Strikers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Former Ranji player Rachit Bhatia, on camera (during a sting operation), revealed that he shared valuable information even before the toss. He also claims to have fixed some Chennai Super Kings (CSK) matches in IPL 2025, and been engaging in spot-fixing during the 2018-19 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His cricket record, however, suggests that Bhatia has played two T20s for Nagaland in that season, taking two wickets.
Vansh Bedi Connection
Unaware he was being recorded, Bhatia detailed his alleged past involvement in spot-fixing, mentioning that if either DPL or IPL matches were to be fixed, he would use the same CSK player (Vansh Bedi, who also plays in DPL) to obtain valuable information. Vansh, who was picked by CSK for INR 55 lakh ahead of the 2025 auction, would face dire consequences if caught in any wrongdoing. “He is in our team, he is fully part of it, and he has played for the state from here…If fingers are pointed at him and an investigation takes place, then if he has done something, he will face the consequences. And if he hasn't, he will come out clean,” Ashok Sharma, DDCA Director, said in an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times (HT). “Why should we jump to conclusions right away? Once we receive an official letter from the BCCI, we’ll have our anti-corruption department check everything and verify all his details, phone records, and whatever else is possible at that time, because the anti-corruption department at that time belonged to the BCCI. So that entire system was managed by them. Whatever the BCCI says and whatever the president says, we will abide by it,” he added.

DDCA seeks BCCI probe after match-fixing allegations rock Delhi Premier League

As India is set to begin their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting from Saturday (August 15), with the first match set to take place in Galle, the squad's bowling lineup still depends heavily on Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, who have always been game-changers in both red-ball and white-ball formats. However, the absence of Bumrah in the series due to a fitness clearance issue from the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (COE) could be a major blow to the bowling attack, putting the pressure solely on Siraj. Meanwhile, Manav Suthar's test debut against Afghanistan in June 2026 surprised selectors, offering a sign of confidence and hope for the bowling lineup besides Siraj. However, Gurnoor Brar's inclusion still remains a concern, as this will be his debut for the Test and he has not been quite impressive in the white-ball formats that he has played ODIs against Afghanistan and England. Also read: IND vs SL, 1st Test: When and where to watch live streaming in India?
Experienced pacer Navdeep Saini opens up
Amid all this, questions also arise about another pacer, Navdeep Saini, who made his debut in 2019 under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and last played his International cricket against Sri Lanka on July 28, 2021. Reacting to WION about the way he advises young bowlers, he said, "If young bowlers ask me about targeting a particular batsman with a plan, then I have a conversation and suggest accordingly." Sharing his thoughts on judgement and using different skills based on the pressure of the different formats, including DPL and IPL, the pacer from Outer Delhi Warriors said, " When we play continuously, we have different experiences of different formats. When we play DPL, IPL or any other domestic matches, then with the advent of time and experience we develop ideas of executing our skills. New players might face problems at the initial stage of the different formats, but as we gain experience, we learn to manage pressure accordingly, and we keep learning until we retire from cricket." When asked about the tough part he came across while playing for 3 different franchises in the cash-rich league: RCB, KKR and Rajasthan Royals, he responded, "While playing for three different franchises, the tough part was playing on RCB's ground as it is very small and a flat pitch, which made me think a bit while planning and bowling. However, I enjoyed playing at RCB as I didn't face much trouble while delivering balls." Towards the end, when asked about who is the one batsman that he found the toughest to bowl to. His answer was not Virat or Steve Smith or Joe Root but Rishabh Pant.
