Delhi is expected to record 14,000 COVID-19&nbsp;cases on Thursday, the capital's health minister Satyendar Jain said.

Speaking to reporters, the minister also said the city is in a comfortable position in terms of hospital bed occupancy and there is no need for a lockdown right now.

Jain said the number of cases in Delhi is high due as a large number of people are being tested for COVID-19 in the city.

"We have been conducting a large number of tests. If we don't do that, the new cases can reduce to 500-1,000. A lot of people (states) don't conduct tests and say they don't have cases. We have been transparent," he said.

"We are conducting the maximum number of tests in the country," the health minister claimed.

A few healthcare workers in Delhi have tested positive, but the number is not alarming, the minister said in response to a question.

When asked whether the AAP government was considering a lockdown in the city, Jain said Delhi has already taken stringent actions, including imposing a night curfew and weekend curfew, which are sufficient for time being. There is no need for a lockdown right now, he said.

News wire PTI quoting officials said that the Delhi health minister who has been admitted in a COVID-19 hospital was diagnosed with pneumonia. Reports said the minister had developed breathing difficulties.

Doctors have been keeping a close eye on the minister's health. Satyendar Jain was detected with the virus on Wednesday after experiencing high grade fever and a sudden drop in&nbsp;oxygen levels.

After his virus was detected, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal&nbsp;had appointed Manish Sisodia to take over Satyendar Jain's portfolios.

Meanwhile, India's national capital reported 2,877 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours which is the highest one-day spike in coronavirus cases.

The health authorities also reported 65 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total death toll in Delhi due to the virus has shot up to 1,969.

The total number of cases in Delhi has gone up to 49,979 including 21,341 patients.

The police have also asked about the duty of the doctors and the rest of the staff on the day of the incident.

The hospital administration has been asked to be present for an interrogation.

Earlier on Saturday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Kumar Jain said if the Max hospital continued with the negligence, the state government would cancel their licence.
