The technology staffers of one of the leading newspapers in the United States, The New York Times, went on strike Monday (Nov 4), just a day ahead of the presidential elections threatening the media's big coverage of the 2024 presidential race.&nbsp;

The tech guild of NYT went on a strike just after midnight, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

The demands of the guild included fair pay, remote work options and worker protections.

If the strike of the staff continues till tomorrow, this will be the first such strike to take place in the newspaper during the presidential election in the last 60 years, as per the union.

“While we respect the union’s right to engage in protected actions, we’re disappointed that colleagues would strike at this time, which is both unnecessary and at odds with our mission,” said&nbsp;The New York Times spokesperson, while speaking to The New York Post.

According to the tech guild, the staffer will protest outside the headquarters of the company every day from 9 am Monday (Oct 4).

On September 10, the union voted to authorise the strike of staffers.&nbsp;

The union appealed to the readers of The New York Times to “honour the digital picket line” and avoid playing popular games owned by the company like Wordle or using the cooking app of Times, as per the Journal.

“We have been sounding the alarm for weeks and cleared our schedules to get this contract done before the election week deadline,” explained Susan DeCarava, president of the NewsGuild of New York.&nbsp;

“We’re disheartened that the Times is willing to gamble with its election coverage to avoid agreeing to a fair and just contract," she added.&nbsp;

Among these members of the guild, more than 400 of them are engineers which increases concerns that the strike can disrupt the news site's Election Day coverage.

The company, without the support of the tech staffers, can struggle in fixing bugs which they may encounter on Tuesday (Nov 5) and may also not be able to update content across some of the website's specialised election coverage tools.

“We’re in one of the most consequential periods of coverage for our readers and have robust plans in place to ensure that we are able to fulfil our mission and serve our readers,” said The New York Times spokesperson, while speaking to The New York Post.

Tech staff at New York Times goes on strike, threatens paper's Election Day coverage

Fox News on Wednesday (August 23) argued in the court that its hosts and guests were just raising questions and “presented a puzzle to unravel” when they continuously and falsely suggested that January 6 rioter Ray Epps was a government agent who had allegedly orchestrated the Capitol attack.&nbsp;

The defence argument was made in a defamation suit that was filed by Epps against the right-wing network. In his suit, he claimed that Fox figures, including its former host Tucker Carlson, ruined his reputation by repeatedly suggesting that a &nbsp;false-flag plot for hurting Donald Trump was led by him. He added that the claims made by the host were baseless.&nbsp;

Carlson, in around 20 episodes of his talk show, kept on talking about the conspiracy theory which claimed Epps was an undercover operative who “helped stage-manage the insurrection”.

Reportedly, Carlson argued that Epps was recorded on camera appealing to people to enter the Capitol, but did not ever enter the building himself.&nbsp;

A 10-minute video was shared on YouTube in which Carlson claimed that it was “highly strange” that Epps was not arrested and suggested that the coverage of Times on Epps was attempting to “cover something up”.

“Tucker Carlson (and/or his guests) described the known (and undisputed) facts” about Epps, Fox claimed in the filing. “Then they asked questions and speculated about answers," it stated.

Meanwhile, the&nbsp;network in its argument further said, “The format of the segments involved setting out facts and raising queries on those facts, which indicated that issues surrounding (Epps) presented a puzzle to unravel, not a matter on which there were definitive answers.”

The arguments depend on the notion that the hosts of Fox News genuinely “asked questions” and “looked for answers” about the role of Epps in the January 6 insurrection. However, a &nbsp;previous defamation lawsuit which was filed by Dominion Voting Systems had showed that many Fox hosts operated in bad faith which raised claims on-air that they didn’t actually believe.

A Delaware federal judge is being asked by Fox News to throw out the lawsuit.

The vaccine joined&nbsp;the likes of&nbsp;Covishield,&nbsp;Covaxin, Moderna and Sputnik V vaccines, which have got the emergency use approval in the country till now.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

On the microblogging site,&nbsp;Mandaviya&nbsp;said, “India expands its vaccine basket. Johnson and Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine is given approval for emergency use in India. Now, India has 5 EUA vaccines. This will further boost our nation's collective fight against COVID-19.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

A Johnson &amp; Johnson India spokesperson said, “We are pleased to announce that on August 7, the Government of India issued Emergency Use&nbsp;Authorisation&nbsp;(EUA) for the Johnson &amp; Johnson COVID-19 single-dose vaccine in India, to prevent COVID-19 in individuals 18 years of age and older."&nbsp;

Launching a veiled attack on Pakistan for glorifying Hizbul commander Burhan Wani as a martyr, Singh said that there should be no glorification of terrorists, adding there is no good or bad terrorism.

Singh arrived in Islamabad yesterday amid protests by supporters of the Hizbul Mujahideen and the Harkat ul Mujahideen. The protests were held at a distance of about 10 kilometres from the&nbsp;National Assembly. Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin was also present during the protests.
