The police officer who was convicted in the murder of George Floyd in 2020 has been stabbed and injured in prison. A person familiar with the matter informed the media about the about the stabbing incident now on November 24th. He was stabbed by another inmate at the Federal Correctional Institute Institution.

The 46-year-old Gonzalo Lopez, a Texas inmate suspected of murdering five people after he escaped from a prison bus was killed by authorities on Thursday.

He escaped the prison bus on May 12 after stabbing the bus driver and later he killed a family of five and stole their truck from a rural weekend cabin.

Lopez was killed about 10:30 pm Thursday in Jourdanton, Texas, about 35 miles (55km) south of San Antonio, said Jason Clark, spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

“Law enforcement in Atascosa county located the stolen vehicle disabled it with spike strips, and gunfire ensued,” Clark said in a statement. No officers were injured, he said.

Lopez crashed the vehicle and then engaged in a firefight with officers, he said.

"He fired several rounds at officers and was armed with an AR-15 and a pistol," Clark said, adding they believe the firearms were likely stolen from the home in Centerville where the family was killed.

The officers fired at Lopez and disabled the bus by shooting the rear tire, the department said. The bus then travelled a short distance before leaving the roadway, where Lopez got out and ran into the woods.

Lopez had been convicted of capital murder, attempted capital murder and aggravated kidnapping, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was serving two life sentences for those convictions.

Authorities had said Lopez was allegedly affiliated with the Mexican Mafia.

A Franco-Ivorian man and his Belgian wife have been convicted of killing a British businessman at a Belgian seaside resort a quarter of a century ago.

The court in the Belgian city of Bruges late Tuesday found Jean-Claude Lacote and his wife Hilde Van Acker quilty of shooting dead 44-year-old&nbsp;Marcus Mitchell.

Lacote, 54, and Van Acker, 57, were arrested in the Ivory Coast two years ago after living a colourful life on the run in the US and Africa.&nbsp;

They had pleaded not guilty but now face possible life imprisonment.

The trial, which began March 5, had revealed multiple lives of Lacote, who has been a clothing dealer in the United States, was a television producer in South Africa and ran an airline in Ivory Coast.

Prosecutors portrayed the couple as "professional criminals" and said the murder was linked to an attempted fraud.

On May 28, 1996, aviation executive Mitchell was found dead in De Haan, an upscale Belgian North Sea beach resort, with two bullets in his head.

Investigators quickly discovered that he had been in regular contact with Lacote and Van Acker by telephone.

According to prosecutors, Mitchell had loaned Lacote a large sum of money for a false lead on a potential lucrative deal and the pair had fallen out.

The investigation turned up extraordinary details of the couple's life since the killing.

They were arrested on June 2 1996, shortly after the body was found, at Charleroi airport outside Brussels.

Released on bail later the same year they fled to the United States, where they married and founded a clothing business in Miami, Florida.

The three-judge Bench handed out a death sentence to Musharraf for suspending the Constitution and imposing emergency rule in 2007.&nbsp;

Musharraf was first booked for treason in December 2013 and was indicted on March 31, 2014, The prosecution had tabled the entire evidence before the special court in September the same year.&nbsp;

However, due to litigation at appellate forums, the trial of the former military dictator lingered on and he left Pakistan in March 2016.

Born on August 11, 1943, Musharraf - a retired four-star army general - was the 10th President of Pakistan whose presidency lasted from 2001 until 2008 when he had to render his resignation to avoid impeachment.&nbsp;

Born in Delhi, in undivided India, Musharraf was raised in Istanbul and Karachi and went on to join the Pakistan Military Academy in 1961.&nbsp;

Rising through the ranks, Musharraf was appointed as the head of the Pakistani Armed Forces by the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in October 1988 and also led the Kargil infiltration against India in 1999.&nbsp;

Musharraf led a military coup against the democratic government of Nawaz Sharif in 1999, overtaking Sharif as the head of the country and placing him under house arrest.&nbsp;

Although he had promised a subsequent return to civilian rule, Musharraf suspended the constitution and dissolved the Parliament, appointing the National Security Council to rule the country.&nbsp;

Emergency enabled him to suspend the constitution again, dismiss the chief justice and replace the supreme court bench who later dismissed the legal challenges to Musharraf’s reelection. Following which Musharraf resigned from his military post and become a civilian president.&nbsp;

During the emergency, Musharraf arrested several opposition leaders and imposed strict restrictions on the media.&nbsp;

Post the emergency uplift in December, several amendments were again made to the constitution that protected measures enforced during the emergency rule.&nbsp;

In the elections of February 2008, Musharraf’s party was widely rejected by the people of Pakistan and saw the reelection of Sharif with the help of coalition with Asif Ali Zardari.&nbsp;

Hence began the impeachment proceedings against Musharraf, leading him to announce his resignation on August 18.&nbsp;

Musharraf tried to return to electoral politics in March 2013 elections, His attempts to contest from his newly formed All Pakistan Muslim League were thwarted due to several political and legal obstacles, leading to his disqualification.&nbsp;

Ekhbariya did not provide the nationalities or names of those convicted, details about when they were arrested or put on trial, nor what sentences were issued by the specialist criminal court in Riyadh, which was set up to try terrorism cases.

Riyadh has come under mounting international scrutiny over its human rights record since the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in October 2018 and the detention of women's rights activists who are still on trial.

In April, the Sunni Muslim-ruled kingdom beheaded 37 men for terrorism crimes. The U.N. human rights chief said most of them were Shi'ites who may not have had fair trials and at least three were minors when sentenced.

President Ram Nath Kovind has rejected his first mercy petition of a death-row convict who had burned alive seven members of a family, including five children, over a case of buffalo theft.

The case pertains to gruesome killing of Vijendra Mahto and six of his family members by Jagat Rai in Raghopur block of Bihar's Vaishali district in 2006.

Mahto had lodged a case of theft of his buffalo in September 2005 in which Rai, Wazir Rai and Ajay Rai were named as accused.

The accused (now convicts) were pressuring Mahto to withdraw the case.

Rai had set on fire Mahto's house that resulted in the death of latter's wife and five children. Mahto, who had sustained serious burn injuries then, died after few months.

After being convicted of the crime and being awarded the death penalty by the local court, the high court and the Supreme Court in 2013 too gave their nod for the hanging. Rai's mercy plea was then sent to the president's secretariat.

The office of the president had sought the Home Ministry's views which gave its recommendation on July 12 last year.

The mercy petition (of Mahto) was rejected by the president on April 23, 2018, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué.

This is the first mercy plea decided by Kovind after he became the president in July last year.

There is no other mercy petition pending with the president's secretariat.

Under Article 72 of the Constitution, The president shall have the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence of any person convicted of any offence where the sentence is a sentence of death.

The accused (now convicts) were pressuring Mahto to withdraw the case.

The case pertains to gruesome killing of Vijendra Mahto and six of his family members by Jagat Rai in Raghopur block of Bihar's Vaishali district in 2006. Mahto had lodged a case of theft of his buffalo in September 2005 in which Rai, Wazir Rai and Ajay Rai were named as accused. The accused (now convicts) were pressuring Mahto to withdraw the case. Rai had set on fire Mahto's house that resulted in the death of latter's wife and five children. Mahto, who had sustained serious burn injuries then, died after few months. After being convicted of the crime and being awarded the death penalty by the local court, the high court and the Supreme Court in 2013 too gave their nod for the hanging. Rai's mercy plea was then sent to the president's secretariat. The office of the president had sought the Home Ministry's views which gave its recommendation on July 12 last year. The mercy petition (of Mahto) was rejected by the president on April 23, 2018, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué. This is the first mercy plea decided by Kovind after he became the president in July last year. There is no other mercy petition pending with the president's secretariat. Under Article 72 of the Constitution, The president shall have the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence of any person convicted of any offence where the sentence is a sentence of death.

Salem had sought parole for 45 days to get married for a second time to Sayed Bahar Kausar.&nbsp

Salem is currently lodged Taloja jail for his role in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that had killed 257 and injured 713 people.&nbsp

He was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special Terrorist and Disruptive Activity (TADA) Court last year.

Delhi Court defers order in the extortion case

The Patiala House Court on April 9 had deferred order in the 2002 extortion case, due to unavailability of the concerned judge.&nbsp

This came nearly two weeks after the final arguments were presented before a Delhi Court in the aforementioned case against noted gangster Abu Salem.&nbsp

Although Salem had earlier claimed that the prosecution did not have enough evidence against him in the case, a fresh production warrant was issued against him in February.

Through his lawyer, the gangster had also claimed that his trial in the case violated an order by which he was extradited to India from Portugal in 2005. On a related noted, Salem is facing trial for allegedly demanding Rs 5 crore as protection money from Delhi businessman Ashok Gupta in 2002. While he has already been granted bail in the case, he continues to be in jail for his involvement in various other cases, including the serial blasts which rocked Mumbai in 1993.

Moreover, media reports said that he is also entitled to get home food and is also allowed to cook for himself.&nbsp;

The former Bihar chief minister can meet guests between 8 am and 12 noon during weekdays in line with the jail manual, Birsa Munda Jail Superintendent Ashok Kumar Choudhary said.

Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was on Saturday convicted by a special CBI court in the 1996 fodder scam case along with 14 others co-accused in the case.
