Security forces on Friday launched a massive search operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gulmarg sector of Jammu and Kashmir, following the terror attack in the area that left four people, including two soldiers, dead, officials said.

Senior officers of the police and Army are overseeing the operation.

Two soldiers and two Army porters were killed in the attack on Thursday while another porter and a soldier were injured. Terrorists attacked a vehicle of the force six km from the tourist hotspot Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

The terrorists opened fire on the Army vehicle in the Bota Pathri area when it was headed for the Nagin post in Afrawat range.

The area is completely dominated by the Army and there were reports recently that a terrorist group had infiltrated during early summer and taken shelter in the higher reaches of the Afrawat range, they said.

The Bota Pathri area was recently opened to tourists.

The prestigious High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), where army personnel are equipped with special training before their deployment in Siachen Glacier, is just a few km from the site of the attack

Weapons and warlike stores were recovered during joint combing operations by security forces in violence-affected Manipur, an official said on Thursday.

According to the defence spokesperson, an extensive search of the area by the security personnel of the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and Churachandpur Police was launched&nbsp;on&nbsp;Thursday.

"Responding to a specific intelligence regarding the presence of a cache of arms and ammunition, a joint team of Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and Churachandpur Police in the general area of Gothal-Phoulijang in Churachandpur district on 12 Oct 2023 launched a search," the official said, adding that it led to the recovery of the arms and&nbsp;ammunitions.

"An extensive search of the area by the troops led to the recovery of one 9mm carbine gun, one tear gas gun, one improvised mortar, ammunition and other war-like stores, under the aegis of Red Shield division of Indian Army," the officials added.

The recoveries have been handed over to Churachandpur Police Station for further investigation.

During the operation, a medical camp was also organised and essential items were distributed at Gothal-Phoulijang village as part of the civic action&nbsp;programme.

At least 15 C-60 commandos, including a woman, and a police driver were killed on Wednesday in Kurkheda area of Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district after a powerful explosion triggered by the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/naxals-torch-25-vehicles-of-road-construction-company-in-maharashtras-gadchiroli-district-police-215004">Naxalites</a> blew up their vehicle.&nbsp;

Those killed were members of the Quick Response Team (QRT) of Gadchiroli police, which was on way to inspect a fleet of torched vehicles belonging to a road construction contractor, police said.&nbsp;

The blast took place between Jamborkheda and Lendhari, according to local police.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to strongly condemn the attack.

"Strongly condemn the despicable attack on our security personnel in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. I salute all the brave personnel. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. My thoughts and solidarity are with the bereaved families. The perpetrators of such violence will not be spared," PM Modi said.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called the attack on the Maharashtra Police personnel as "an act of cowardice and desperation"."We are extremely proud of the valour of our police personnel. Their supreme sacrifice while serving the nation will not go in vain. My deepest condolences to their families," Singh tweeted.
