Amid the countrywide demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment ACT (CAA), Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday asserted that the law will not be scrapped irrespective of the protests.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 has come into force by the Official Gazette of the Central Government’s notification published on January 10, 2020. It is worthwhile to note that CAA whose certain sections are linking with NRC and NPR is made to grant citizenship to persecuted minorities of the three countries mentioned in the act and not to terminate or take away anyone’s citizenship.
