Amid tensions with Taiwan, reports say the Chinese army trained nurses as part of its war simulation exercise.

The People’s Liberation Army(PLA) reportedly trained 300 nurses as part of the military drill involving&nbsp;an exercise to take an island. The exercise was part of a nighttime combat drill at sea with nurses as part of the medical rescue plan.

The nurses reportedly wore goggles during the day to block the light as they were taught to handle the boat simulator.

Nurses were also taught to handle real-time simulated gunfire and bad weather. The exercise reportedly took place from July last year to February 2021.

China has been conducting drills near Taiwan for several months. China had recently sent a record number of 56&nbsp;warplanes into Taiwan's airspace as the country scrambled its own fighters and activated the missile systems.

Chinese Army has also been practising amphibious landing in various exercises. Earlier this month, reports said China's military had carried out beach landing drills near Taiwan.

Taiwan defence minister Chiu Kuo-cheng had warned that China was capable of mounting a full-scale war&nbsp;in 2025 as tensions escalated between the two countries.

President Tsai however definitely said Taiwan will not bow to China as she sought to increase the country's military expenditure.

The Biden administration declared its commitment towards Taiwan was "rock solid" even as it said it continues to "adhere to the One China policy."

China tested nurses during simulated night landing exercise: Report

According to China's state-run Global Times, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) eastern theatre command dispatched naval and Air Forces to conduct joint patrols and combat exercises "in the waters and airspace southwest of Taiwan".

The state-run newspaper said the move came after "US warship transited the Taiwan Straits to provoke China concerning its sovereignty over the island again on Friday."

On Friday, the US 7th Fleet had said the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Barry had conducted a "routine" Taiwan Strait transit through international waters in "accordance with international law."

On Thursday, Chinese defence minister Wei Fenghe had called up US defence secretary Mark Esper and asked US counterpart to "stop erroneous words and deeds and "avoid taking dangerous moves that may escalate the situation", China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

China had earlier reacted angrily to US announcement on sending health secretary Alex Azar to Taiwan, where he is due to meet President Tsai Ing-wen and other top officials.&nbsp;

China's foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin had said that it firmly "opposes" official exchanges between the US and Taiwan and urged the United States "to avoid seriously endangering Sino-US relations, as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."

China claims Taiwan as a reneged province which has been ruled separately from the mainland since 1949. The Xi government has vowed to seize it by force if necessary. China has been regularly conducting military drills along the Taiwan Strait with reports of air space violation by Chinese fighters who have entered Taiwan's territory.

The Pentagon on Thursday expressed its concern about China's decision to conduct military exercises&nbsp;in a disputed island in the South China Sea, noting the act will "further destabilise" the situation.&nbsp;

"The Department of Defense is concerned about the People's Republic of China (PRC) decision to conduct military exercises around the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on July 1-5," the Pentagon, in a statement, said, reported AFP.

It also said that the activities are a part of a long list of Chinese acts "to assert unlawful maritime claims and disadvantage its Southeast Asian neighbours in the South China Sea."

Urging all the parties to refrain from military activities, the Pentagon said it will continue monitoring Chinese military activity.&nbsp;

China considers a major part of the South China Sea, including the Paracels as its own territory, claims that the US rejects.&nbsp;

Washington and Beijing's relations hit a new low following the outbreak of coronavirus, where the Trump administration blamed China for hiding information about the deadly virus.&nbsp;
