The WHO this week had said, that while China has been sharing enough data on the virus, it has been "heavily underreporting" deaths caused by the disease.&nbsp;

"WHO still believes that deaths are heavily underreported from China," its emergencies director Michael Ryan told reporters. "We still do not have adequate information to make a full comprehensive risk assessment."

China has shared COVID-related data in a timely, open and transparent manner, Wang said, and is willing to continue holding technical exchanges to better cope with the epidemic challenges and &nbsp;protect people's lives and health.&nbsp;

"We hope that the WHO can scientifically and rationally evaluate China's COVID prevention and control, and make remarks objectively and fairly," Wang noted.&nbsp;

China’s Twitter-like social media firm, Weibo, has banned more than 1,000 social media accounts considered by the government as critiques of&nbsp;Xi Jinping’s COVID-19 policy.&nbsp;About 1,120 Weibo users were either permanently or temporarily banned from accessing their accounts over "personal attacks" and “inciting conflict” against the country’s health experts, the daily South China Morning Post reported.

Weibo, which claims to have half a billion active users,&nbsp;said it was taking action in response to the 12,854 violations it recorded, including attacks on experts, scholars and medical workers.

“Many experts, academics and internet users have been actively using their professional knowledge and gathering authoritative sources to help with combating the pandemic,” a statement from Weibo said on Thursday.

“It is not acceptable to hurl insults at people who hold a different point of view, or publish personal attacks and views that incite conflicts. Any kind of move that is destructive to the [Weibo] community would be handled in a serious manner,” the notice said.

The action from the microblogging site came days after Beijing’s top security chiefs warned of zero tolerance against activities that “use the pandemic … to disrupt social order”.

Starting from March 01, all old iPhones before 2022 will see their battery replacements charge increased by $20.

These increased battery prices will also apply to not just iPhones but also MacBooks, some iPads and a few international markets.

China optimised ‘Covid control strategy’ to protect lives, minimise economic costs, says Xi Jinping

As several countries impose COVID testing requirements in people travelling from China amid a surge of infections, the country's state media has hit back and called these mandates "discriminatory".&nbsp;

On December 7, Beijing scrapped most of its zero-Covid policy restrictions in the country which has caused a massive increase in infections. China recently also announced lifting of restrictions on overseas travellers, leading to its citizens travelling abroad after the borders remained shut for over three years.&nbsp;

This has led to a fear worldwide that passengers from China might carry infections with them. US now requires a negative test certificate from those coming from China. South Korea, India, Italy, Japan and Taiwan have also imposed COVID tests for travellers from China.

"The real intention is to sabotage China's three years of COVID-19 control efforts and attack the country's system," state-run tabloid Global Times said in an article late on Thursday, calling the restrictions "unfounded" and "discriminatory."

Airfinity expects China's COVID infections to reach their first peak on January 13, with 3.7 million cases a day.

Amidst the global alarm of surge the Covid-19 cases in China, the WHO has said that the restrictions imposed by some countries on travelers from China are understandable, given the lack of information from Beijing. As more and more countries are imposing restrictions on travellers from China amid the recent surge in cases in the country, Beijing’s state media, called these mandates “discriminatory”. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) chief, on Thursday, called the measures “understandable” given the lack of information from China.

Passengers from China now need to show negative COVID-19 results before boarding flights to the United States, the country’s Center&nbsp;for Disease Control and Prevention has announced.

The federal agency said that the Covid test needs to be done two days before flying and the proof of the negative test must be submitted to the airline before boarding.

The tests can be either a PCR test or an antigen self-test administered through a telehealth service.

The testing requirement is mandatory for people from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, and covers all passengers regardless of their nationality or vaccination status, the CDC said.

It also covers passengers flying from third-country gateways, including Seoul, Toronto and Vancouver. The test will be required if they have been in China over the last 10 days.

The new rules are scheduled to take effect on January 5.

The testing requirement was scrapped in June, but the US continued to allow all foreign travellers provided they proved that they are fully vaccinated with the&nbsp;primary series&nbsp;of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The health officials said that the need to bring back testing requirements was because of deep concerns about China’s lack of transparency regarding the recent surge in cases, especially the absence of genome sequencing information that could help detect new strains of the coronavirus.

“We know these measures will not eliminate all risk or completely prevent people who are infected from entering the United States,” a federal health official told CNN.

“Still, taken together they will help limit the number of infected people and provide us an early warning about new variants.”
