The death toll in Delhi’s communal violence climbed to 39 on Friday, a Delhi health department official said Friday.

There were some areas of normalcy in the riot-hit localities of northeast Delhi with shops opening.

Nearly 7,000 paramilitary forces have been deployed in the affected areas of the northeast district since Monday. Hundreds of Delhi police personnel are on the ground to maintain peace.

More than 200 people have been injured in the communal clashes that broke out on Monday. The areas affected include Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Chand Bagh, Khureji Khas and Bhajanpura.

DK Gupta, Additional DCP told ANI that this move has been taken in accordance with the orders of the Delhi High Court.

"There were four bodies and 20 injured victims at a hospital in Chand Bagh. We had to shift them to another hospital as per High Court orders. All the victims have been shifted to another hospital now so that they can get proper medical treatment," he said.

With sporadic incidents of violence being reported from the area, government sources have told ANI that the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has been given the charge of bringing normalcy in the capital.

Sources also said that Doval will also brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cabinet about the prevailing situation.
