BMW research engineer Stella Clarke, said, "This is really energy efficient colour change using the technology E Ink. So, we took this material - it's kind of a thick paper - and our challenge was to get this on a 3D object like our cars." &nbsp;

The car’s colour change can be controlled by a phone app. When the electrical signals are stimulated, the material comes up with different pigments to the surface resulting in the change in shade or design of the car. It can be racing stripes or anything else. &nbsp;

As per the BMW, no energy is required to maintain the colour the driver selects. &nbsp;

"My favourite use case is the use of colour to influence sunlight reflections. On a hot, sunny day like today, you could switch the colour white to reflect sunlight. On a cold day, you could switch it black to absorb the heat," said Clarke. &nbsp;

Scientists may have found the smallest reptile on this planet as they discovered a sunflower seed-sized subspecies of a chameleon.&nbsp;

The male Brookesia nana or nano-chameleon's body is only 13.5 mm (0.53 inches) long, which is smallest of all the roughly 11,500 known species of reptiles, the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology in Munich was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters.&nbsp;

With a total length of 29 mm, the female chameleon is larger, the research institute said.

It also said that despite serious efforts, scientists were not able to find any more specimens of the new sub-species.&nbsp;

The species' closest kin is the slightly longer Brookesia micra, whose discovery was announced in 2012.

Researchers assume that the lizard's habitat is small as generally happens with identical subspecies.

Deforestation and habitat degradation threaten this tiny reptile's future, according to the researchers. However, the region where these chameleons were found was recently designated a protected region by the Malagasy government.&nbsp;

"The nano-chameleon's habitat has unfortunately been subject to deforestation, but the area was placed under protection recently, so the species will survive," said Oliver Hawlitschek, a scientist at the Center of Natural History in Hamburg in a statement.&nbsp;

They may soon be listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The suitcase appeared suspicious on X-ray, after which security personnel decided to further scrutinise it.

They found 74 chameleons hidden in socks and boxes in the suitcase.

On the black market, these protected chameleons would sell for about 37,000 euros or $44,970, according to officials.

Soon after discovering the suitcase, a 56-year-old man who was travelling from Tanzania was arrested.

The man has not been identified by the police so far, and he could face a fine of up to 6,000 euros, as claimed by the finance ministry.

The ministry added how the animals are good at camouflaging themselves, but that they could not outsmart the X-ray machine.

"[Chameleons] can camouflage themselves well... but they ultimately did not outsmart the X-Ray machine," the ministry revealed in a statement. 
 
Soon after the discovery, the animals were sent to Vienna’s Schönbrunn Zoo, where they were put under observation by specialists.

Out of the 74, three chameleons died during the journey. They are aged between one-week to adult chameleons.

Experts from the zoo claim that the animals come from Usambara Mountains in Tanzania.

"According to the zoo's experts, they come from the Usambara Mountains, a currently very rainy and cool region in Tanzania," BBC cited the finance ministry as saying.
