India has launched a significant spiritual diplomacy initiative by sending sacred relics of Lord Buddha’s disciples Sariputra and Maudgalyayana from the UNESCO-listed Sanchi Stupa to Mongolia. The relics, moved with full state honours, were flown from Bhopal to Delhi before being scheduled for transport to Ulaanbaatar via a special Indian Air Force aircraft.

The Piprahwa relics have been on expositions in Mongolia (2022) and Thailand (2024), Kalmykia, Russia (2025). The relics come to. The sacred relics of Lord Buddha and his revered disciples have now arrived in Thailand from India for public viewing. This marks the first time that the relics of Lord Buddha and his disciples will be showcased together.
