The World Values Survey is out and it has revealed some interesting information about how people in&nbsp;countries across the world give preference to certain values, beliefs and attitudes when raising their children. King's College in London condensed the survey further and compared results for 24 countries, a mix of nations from across the continents. The list included developed as well as developing countries.

The results are fascinating.

The comparison revealed that the UK was in top 10 countries when it came to valuing inculcation of unselfishness, good manners and imagination in children. But British parents were down in the ranks with regards to teaching children responsibility.&nbsp;

It was revealed that France was at the top of the list of included countries when it came to inculcating unselfishness. When it came to instilling imagination in children, South Korean respondents valued it the most. While respondents from Egypt put most stock in inculcating good manners in children.

Interestingly, UK was in the bottom two of the 24 countries when instilling sense of responsibility in children was in focus. South Korea took the cake here as well. When it came to obedience, saving money and religious faith, the UK was in bottom five. On top were Nigeria, Russia and Egypt respectively in these separate parameters.

“As more of our basic needs are met, we can focus more on being ourselves and be more open to new ideas. This has gone hand in hand with the decline of some key norms that have traditionally placed more value on obedience, such as attachment to organised religions, and is mirrored in our hugely increased acceptance of a wide range of lifestyles and characteristics, whether that’s on sexuality, ethnicity or religion,” said Profesor Bobby Duffy, the director of the Policy Institute at King’s College.&nbsp;

While the study drew conclusions taking countries separately, inferences were also drawn by considering generation as the differentiating factor.

It was found that all generations valued obedience less than they did in the past. However, it was found that Gen Z, those born between 1997 and 2013 cared less about good manners and not being selfish that previous generations like the Milennials or Generation X.

British parents among bottom two in teaching kids responsibility, says study

The UK government on Thursday said it was "deeply concerned" after Russian news agencies reported pro-Moscow separatists had sentenced to death two British fighters captured by Russian troops while fighting for Ukraine.

"We're obviously deeply concerned by this. We've said continually that prisoners of war shouldn't be exploited for political purposes," said a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

"Under the Geneva Convention, prisoners of war are entitled to combatant immunity, and they should not be prosecuted for participation in hostilities. Two Britons and a Moroccan were sentenced to death by a court in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), one of Russia's proxies in eastern Ukraine.

The court found the three men - Britons Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner and Moroccan Brahim Saadoun - guilty of "mercenary activities and committing actions aimed at seizing power and overthrowing the constitutional order of the DPR."&nbsp;

The three men were captured while fighting for Ukraine against Russia and Russian-backed forces that entered the country on Feb. 24. In court, they admitted they were mercenaries. Their lawyer said they will appeal the decision.

British Foreign Secretary Luz Truss tweeted: “I utterly condemn the sentencing of Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner held by Russian proxies in eastern Ukraine. They are prisoners of war. This is a sham judgment with absolutely no legitimacy.”

British citizens Aslin and Pinner were captured by the Russian-backed forces in Mariupol in April, during a bitter fight for control of the city. Moroccan Saadoun surrendered in March while fighting in a small town between Mariupol and the regional capital of Donetsk.

When it comes to topping the beer glass, Britishers and Scottish people have turned out to be the biggest lovers of alcohol, and especially of getting drunk.

As per a survey conducted by the Global Drugs Survey (GDS) in 25 countries, Britishers and Scottish people are often rushed to the hospitals after getting drunk.

In the UK, more than 5 per cent under the age of 25 have admitted to having to go to the hospital after getting drunk. This has raised concern as the global average of the same is two per cent.

"Seeking emergency medical treatment is a serious consequence of drinking, with a cost to the health service as well as the individual," the GDS report read.

This survey was conducted in a three-month period of November 2019 to February 2020 with the participation of more than 110,000 people around the world, of which 5,283 were from the UK.

Nearly 94 per cent people in the UK admitted they had consumed alcohol in the last year, and 2.3 per cent said they had consumed heroin.

This survey has revealed that more people get drunk in the UK than any other part of the world.&nbsp;

Only seven per cent of Britishers and Scottish people said they had not been drunk at all in the past year.

What was shocking was this year's survey had a very clear definition of the term "drunk", which stated, "your physical and mental faculties are impaired to the point where your balance/speech was affected, you were unable to focus clearly on things, and that your conversation and behaviours were very obviously different to people who know you."

As per these standards, the numbers revealed have raised an alarm of concern and caution.

"Given that for most people getting drunk is a voluntary activity, it’s striking that on a third of occasions they regretted it. Previous GDS research suggested that when getting drunk most people are likely to be consuming almost their entire weekly allowance in one sitting, exposing them to acute harms such as accidents, trauma and suppression of their immune system (a particular worry during Covid)," the report said.

Britishers were also least regretful about getting drunk with only 31 per cent saying they ever regretted getting drunk to that limit. In Scotland, 33.8 per cent of people regretted their decisions related to alcohol.

Another study by the GDS also revealed that nearly 48 per cent of Britishers had started drinking more since the start of the pandemic year.

"We don’t have a culture that is honest about the impact of intoxication. Drinking is a lousy coping strategy and it is putting a higher burden on the NHS," Prof Adam Winstock, the chief executive and founder of the GDS said. "British people have never really embraced moderation when it comes to drinking. While many other cultures regard alcohol as an accompaniment to a social event and frown upon public drunkenness, we’ve often embraced it as a cultural identity. The challenge is making people realise drinking a bit less does not make you boring. In fact, you’ll probably have a better night. It’s like as a country we need to leave our adolescence behind."&nbsp;

The GDS has also urged the British government to spread awareness about the harmful effects of binge-drinking. He has suggested adding mandatory health warning labels and setting the price of the alcoholic drinks.&nbsp;

"These are all incredibly sensible things that have been recommended by several commissions, but have been ignored in the face of resistance from the alcohol lobby," Winstock said.&nbsp;

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Friday said US airstrikes in Iraq were a "proportionate" response to the deaths of two Americans and one Briton in a rocket attack.
