A strong earthquake shook Peru and Ecuador on Saturday (March 18) and killed at least 14&nbsp;people, injured severel, and damaged buildings, according to Ecuador's presidency.&nbsp;

Cities like Machala and Cuenca in Ecuador damaged buildings, and crushed cars&nbsp;as rescue workers rushed to offer assistance while terrified locals ran to the streets, reported NDTV.

The earthquake of 6.8 magnitude and at a depth of roughly 41 miles (66 km) occurred around 12:12 local time, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) (1712 GMT).&nbsp;

As per authorities, it the quake’s epicentre was close to the Peruvian border in the municipality of Balao in Ecuador.

Mohammad Asim, a hospital official, as per a Reuters report, said that while 93 people have perished, 221 are wounded, of which&nbsp;57 are currently in critical condition, undergoing treatment.

The attack occurred in one of the most fortified areas of northwestern Peshawar city, an area that houses offices&nbsp;and residences of police and counter-terrorism departments. It is still under investigation how the terrorist entered the sensitive area where entry is restricted and one must cross at least two check posts to enter.

As per an IANS report, police said that the bomber had placed himself in the front row of the prayer ceremony. Among those killed is Imam Sahibzada Noor ul Amin.

Many people were trapped under the debris, and a rescue operation during the night pulled out nine bodies. The "powerful explosion" caused damage to the mosque building, bringing down its roof and one wall.&nbsp;

"This morning we are going to remove the last part of the collapsed roof so we can recover more bodies, but we are not hopeful of reaching any survivors," he said.

At least 20 slain police officers have been laid to rest with honour after a prayer ceremony, their coffins draped in the Pakistani flag.

In Pakistan's Peshawar, a blast at a mosque located near Police Lines has reportedly killed more than 61&nbsp;people.

Talking to WION,&nbsp;Commissioner Peshawar Riaz Mehsud shared the latest tally, reportedly 61&nbsp;people have been killed while at least&nbsp;another 150 were&nbsp;injured.

Media reports are still unclear whether the explosion happened inside the place of worship or outside.&nbsp;However, as per inputs from WION's Pakistan bureau chief Anas Mallick, the blast happened inside the Mosque. It reportedly happened just after Zuhr Prayers and due to the explosion, one "side of the mosque has collapsed."

Turkish elections to be held on May 14: President Erdogan

Ambulance services were pressed into action at Sydney airport as part of an "emergency response"&nbsp;to a Qantas flight carrying more than 100 passengers.

The plane has now reportedly landed safely at the Sydney airport. As per the airline, all 145 passengers disembarked normally when the plane landed in Sydney around 3.30 pm local time (0430 GMT).

Initially, in&nbsp;a statement to the press, an ambulance service spokesperson had revealed that "paramedics have been called,"&nbsp;for Qantas Flight QF144 from Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney, Australia.

As per a report by Australia’s Channel Nine television news, there were "reports of an engine failure".&nbsp;The aircraft is a Boeing 737-800, a twin-engine plane, which means it can land safely with just one engine.&nbsp;

As per the Australian government's aviation regulator, a mayday call indicates that "an aircraft is in grave and imminent danger and requires immediate assistance". However, as per a Reuters report quoting a&nbsp;Qantas&nbsp;spokesperson, the grave danger signal was&nbsp;downgraded to "Possible Assistance Needed" before landing.

Reuters reports that passengers aboard the flight while talking to local media talked of hearing&nbsp;a loud bang mid-flight. However, they said they&nbsp;hadn't realised there was a problem until the pilot made an announcement on landing.

As per a report by Australia’s Channel Nine television news, there were "reports of an engine failure". The aircraft is a Boeing 737-800, a twin-engine plane, which means it can land safely with just one engine. However, as per a Reuters report quoting a Qantas spokesperson, the grave danger signal was downgraded to "Possible Assistance Needed" before landing. Who was Cyrus Mistry?

Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was the sixth chairman of the Tata group from 2012 to 2016, taking over the duties from Ratan Tata. He was only the second individual to hold reins of the company without having a Tata surname.&nbsp;

Born in a Parsi family in Mumbai, Mistry was the son of&nbsp;Pallonji Mistry and&nbsp;Patsy Perin Dubash. Pallonji was a billionaire and a construction magnate.&nbsp;

A&nbsp;Civil Engineer from London’s prestigious Imperial College,&nbsp;Mistry was involved in the family’s flagship construction business before he left it to join the Tatas. He learnt the business ropes at Tata Industries, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals and Tata Motors. And his hard work paid off as he rose to be the director of several other companies like Forbes Gokak, United Motors (India) and Shapoorji Pallonji and Co.

However, Mistry's reign as the Tata chairman was tumultuous. He was removed four years later from the top administrative position in a boardroom coup led by Tata Trusts, which owned 66 per cent&nbsp;of Tata Sons and was controlled by Ratan Tata.

The dispute snowballed with allegations of mismanagement and suppression of minority shareholder rights. For years, the case remained in the courtrooms as the very public nature of it brought eyeballs to both groups.

The courtroom and boardroom battled finally came to a halt when the Supreme Court in&nbsp;2021 ruled that Cyrus’s ouster was legal and also upheld Tata Sons’s rules on minority shareholder rights.

However, the 2021 court ruling in Tata’s favour left burnt bridges between Shapoorji Pallonji Group and Tata Sons, which had been partners for 70 years.
