The Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Monday issued fresh notices to film stars Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari on an appeal by the state government, challenging their acquittal by a trial court in a case of hunting two black bucks in 1998. 
 
Notice was also issued to local Dushyant Singh who accompanied the actors when the poaching took place in Kankani village near Jodhpur in October 1998. 
 
Bollywood actor Salman Khan is the sole accused who was convicted in the case. The trial court had sentenced him to five years in jail on April 5 last year, while acquitting the five other co-accused. Khan is presently out on bail. 
 
A single judge bench of justice Manoj Kumar Garg issued notices to the respondents seeking their reply within eight weeks. 
 
Earlier, the high court had on March 11 issued notices to the five respondents on the state government's appeal challenging their acquittal in the case. 
"Of these, notices to Saif and Sonali could not be served. Considering this, the court issued fresh notices to them seeking reply in 8 weeks," said government counsel Mahipal Bishnoi. 
 
After the five files their replies, the state's appeal would be sent back to the session court for further hearing as the first appeal to a magisterial court judgement lies in the sessions court, explained Bishnoi. 
 
The state had come to the high court after the sessions court had taken objections to the late filing of the appeal by the state government, he said.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; 
Salman Khan has already challenged his conviction before the sessions court, which is presently hearing the defence arguments in his appeal.&nbsp;

In October 1998, a total of three cases in connection with poaching and one under the Arms Act were registered against Salman. The 52-year-old actor allegedly shot two blackbucks in Bhagoda ki Dhani in Kankani village near Jodhpur during the shooting of 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.

Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam were also present in the vehicle Salman allegedly used for hunting the endangered species protected under Schedule 1 of the Indian Wildlife Act.

Salman was charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and others under Section 51 read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.&nbsp;

The state government of western Indian state of Rajasthan approached India&#39;s top court on Tuesday against Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan&#39;s acquittal in two cases related to chinkara (Indian gazelle) poaching case, according to multiple reports.&nbsp;

The high court in western Rajasthan on July 25 had acquitted Khan in the poaching case citing lack of evidence, Indian daily, DNA reported, after the actor challenged the lower court&#39;s verdict that had handed him one and five years&#39; imprisonment, respectively, in the two separate cases of poaching.&nbsp;

&quot;The government is studying the merits and demerits of the case and has decided to appeal against the decision in the Supreme Court,&quot; an Indian news channel, NewsX, quoted the state law minister, Rajendra Rathore, as saying.

According to the&nbsp;Indian news agency PTI, two separate cases had been registered against Khan under section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act for poaching of two chinkaras in village Bhawad on 26-27 September, 1998 and one chinkara in Mathania (Ghoda Farm) on 28-29 September, 1998.

Salman, who&nbsp;has spent time in a Jodhpur jail twice for in the poaching case, was convicted in 2007 and&nbsp;sentenced to five years for hunting and killing the two endangered chinkara deer and one blackbuck in Rajasthan in 1998. In 2013, however, the Rajasthan High Court suspended the conviction to make it easier for the actor to travel to the United Kingdom to shoot for a film. Both animals are protected and killing them is a punishable offence.
