A major political confrontation is unfolding between the BJP and Congress over Vande Mataram, with the national song becoming the latest flashpoint in India’s political debate.

BJP president Nitin Nabin has sharply criticised the Congress Working Committee’s decision to continue singing only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram at party events. Nabin accused the Congress of compromising national sentiment and called the party a “new Muslim League.”

The Congress has defended its position by citing a 1937 Congress Working Committee resolution, arguing that leaders of the freedom movement, including Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore, supported limiting public renditions to the first two stanzas.

The controversy intensified following an Independence Day event at the Congress headquarters, where a video involving Sonia Gandhi sparked competing claims from the BJP and Congress over the full rendition of the national song.

Breaking news from Parliament: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has been issued a notice concerning an alleged breach of privilege and contempt of the House.

The notice follows complaints submitted by BJP leaders over remarks Rahul Gandhi allegedly made against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

The BJP has alleged that Gandhi used unparliamentary and derogatory expressions and made serious claims without providing evidence. The controversy comes amid heated exchanges between the government and opposition over police action during protests in New Delhi.

The latest notice adds another layer to the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress.

An animated music video on YouTube, which shows India's preeminent independence leader Mahatma Gandhi perform mean street-style dance moves and daring headstands, has embroiled the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition party Congress in another war of words.
The video published on Saturday comes close on the heels of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi accusing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the parent organisation of BJP, of being involved in the Mahatma's assassination.
The song performed by acclaimed rapper Babu Haabi has lyrics that say: “Satyagraha se kuch na mila, jhoot ka jhanda lehraya (When satyagraha failed to yield results, I was forced to hoist the flag of deceit).” Satygraha was the Mahatma's idea of nonviolent resistance during India's freedom movement.
Rap video on Mahatma Gandhi deepens political row in India

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that the Congress was playing with the country's national security and said a clean chit by the Congress leader and home minister of southern Karnataka, G Parameshwara, to rights group Amnesty International makes it obvious that he is working on the orders of his party's high command.

BJP leader S Prakash said Parameshwara has given a clean chit to Amnesty International in the anti-India sloganeering controversy as per the diktat of the Congress central leadership.

"After a long deliberation, they (Bengaluru Police) decided to file a case on sedition charges. The home ministry I believe comes under G Parameshwara. It is his department, which has filed the case. Now, he has given the clean chit even before the report is submitted. It is very clear that he is acting under the pressure of the high command," Prakash said.
Demanding that an impartial investigation must be done into the matter, the BJP leader expressed his disappointment that the clean chit has been given to Amnesty International even before the report was submitted.
"As far I am concerned, the investigation is over because the home minister has himself given a clean chit and no police officer will indict the Amnesty (International) anymore. It is a serious issue, you would have allowed the investigation to go on," he added.
"Amnesty International is not new to Bengaluru. This organisation has been functioning here for a long time. I don't know nor I have heard in the past about it or anyone from it involving in any anti-national activities," Parameshwara said.

"They had organised a programme about the Army's excesses in Kashmir. They had called a few families (from Kashmir) to console them and give them some sort of mental support, in which certain incidents took place about which an FIR has been registered," he added.
Mounting pressure on the government post the incident, the BJP activists staged protests on the streets demanding that a case of sedition be registered against Amnesty International.
