<p>“The Quad is an important body and we want to make sure that it occurs at leadership level and we’ll be having that discussion over the weekend,” he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While no meeting date has been set for the Japan gathering, Albanese stated that it was "appropriate that we talk."</p>

<p>The Quad is an informal grouping that advocates for an open Indo-Pacific. Beijing sees it as an attempt to counteract its rising regional influence.</p>

<p>This came in a random nationwide survey of 1,006 US adults for the Washington Post-ABC News poll from April 28 to May 3. It shows how US President Joe Biden faces significant obstacles as his reelection campaign gets underway.</p>

<p>As many as 62 per cent of Americans say&nbsp;the 80-years-old Biden is not in good enough physical health to be effective as a president.&nbsp;In contrast, 64 per cent of Americans say former US president Donald Trump is physically fit enough to serve. It is pertinent to note that Trump would turn 78 in January 2025 at the time of the next inauguration.</p>

<p>Biden's overall ratings is currently at 36%, down from 42% in February and almost equal to the previous low of 37% in an early 2022 Post-ABC survey. 56 per cent of people disapprove of him, including 47 per cent who do so "strongly."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Monday (May 8) said that it was very important to stabilise relations between China and the US after 'erroneous words and deeds' put a spanner in the process of normalising relations. In a meeting with US Ambassador Nicholas Burns in Beijing, &nbsp;the Chinese minister said that the US must correct its handling of the Taiwan issue and stop undermining 'one China' principle.</p>

<p>China considers Taiwan to be its own territory and has not ruled out use of force to capture the democratically-ruled island nation.</p>

<p>Last year, relations between the US and China were especially strained when Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the US House of Representatives paid an official visit to Taiwan. China had retaliated by severing formal communication channels with the US.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The top priority is to stabilise Sino-U.S. relations, avoid a downward spiral and prevent any accidents between China and the United States," Qin told Burns, the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement.</p>

<p>There was a brief thaw in relations between the two countries last November when US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping met at a G20 Summit in Indonesia. Both leaders pledged more frequent dialogue.</p>

<p>The relations quickly soured after a Chinese high-altitude balloon appeared in US airspace. America shot down the balloon and Secretary of State Antony Blinken cancelled scheduled visit to Beijing.</p>

<p>"A series of erroneous words and deeds by the United States since then have undermined the hard-won positive momentum of Sino-US&nbsp;relations," Qin said with respect to his discussion with Burns.</p>
