US President Joe Biden has claimed that his Israeli counterpart, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was not doing enough to secure a hostage-truce deal with Hamas that has been in the works for months.&nbsp;

Biden made the remarks to reporters on Monday (Sep 2) while heading into the Situation Room to convene a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris.&nbsp;

Biden said the two sides were "very close" to securing a deal,&nbsp;however, upon being pressed by reporters to whether Netanyahu was doing enough to secure a deal, Biden responded:&nbsp; “No.”

This is not the first instance when Biden has called out Netanyahu for stalling the deal. During a phone call earlier this month, Biden told Netanyahu to&nbsp;"stop bullshi**ing" him. At the end of the conversation, Biden also&nbsp;reportedly said, “Don’t take the president for granted."

The truce and hostage talks have been ongoing for months but no breakthrough has been made so far. US,&nbsp;alongside Qatar and Egypt, has been attempting to broker the deal but Netanyahu has stuck with his demands regarding the Philadelphi Corridor -- a narrow 14.5-km-long stretch of land along Gaza's southern border with Egypt.&nbsp;

Sirens sounded in Rishon LeTsiyon, about 15 miles south of Tel Aviv, but the rocket landed "in an open area".

PM Modi appeals for de-escalation, calls for release of hostages in talks with Israel's Netanyahu

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told a special session of the Turkish parliament on Thursday (August 15) that he would travel to Gaza, while adding, "Our life is not more worthy than the life of a child."

Abbas said this as the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported that the death toll in the Israeli assaults so far has crossed 40,000.&nbsp;

To thunderous applause from Turkish lawmakers, Abbas said, "I have decided to go to Gaza with other brothers from the Palestinian leadership."

He said he would do that "even if this would cost my life".

Abbas, the leader of the Fatah Palestinian movement, a rival to Hamas as per AFP, is based in Ramallah in the West Bank.&nbsp;

The Gaza Strip is controlled by Hamas, who took power in 2007. Nobody apart from a handful of humanitarian workers is allowed to visit the Palestinian group-controlled territory.

Abbas, as per AFP, has not visited the Gaza Strip since 2007.

"Gaza is ours as a whole," stressed Abbas, adding, "We don't accept any solution that would divide our territories," he told the Turkish parliament he was addressing during a special session.&nbsp;

"There cannot be a Palestinian state without Gaza. Our people will not surrender," he promised.

Commending Erdogan's "courageous" stance, Abbas also slammed the international community for its silence on the massacres carried out by Israel.&nbsp;

The same day, Iran had declared that it had the "legal right" to respond to the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week. The attack has been attributed to Israel amidst the ongoing Gaza conflict.

"No one has the right to doubt Iran's legal right to punish the Zionist regime," said Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani during a regular news conference, in obvious reference to Israel.

While asserting its right to retaliate, Nasser Kanani emphasised that Iran "does not seek to aggravate tensions in the region," which have been on the rise since the Israel-Hamas war erupted in early October and escalated further following the Wednesday attack in Tehran.

"We believe the consolidation of stability and security in the region will be achieved by punishing the aggressor and creating a deterrent against the adventurous behaviour and extraterritorial terrors of the Zionist regime," he stated.

Biden scolded the Israeli PM&nbsp;during their conversation on Thursday (Aug 1) as he believes that Netanyahu was intentionally stalling the truce talks to benefit his position in the country's internal politics.&nbsp;

At the end of Thursday’s conversation, Biden also reportedly said,&nbsp;“Don’t take the president for granted."

The truce and hostage talks have been ongoing for months but no breakthrough has been made so far. However, after Biden's push, a high-level Israeli delegation visited Cairo on Saturday (Aug 3) for indirect talks with American and Egyptian negotiations on reaching a hostage-truce deal.&nbsp;

According to Israeli media reports, the bone of contention remains Netanyahu's position in the talks. There will be no real progress if the Israeli PM does not ease up a bit, Channel 12 said, quoting sources.&nbsp;

To make matters worse, the entire Middle East region is on the brink of an all-out war after Israel was allegedly linked to back-to-back assassinations&nbsp;of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut.&nbsp;

“Austin has ordered adjustments to US military posture designed to improve US force protection, to increase support for the defence of Israel and to ensure the United States is prepared to respond to various contingencies,” the Pentagon said.

White House believes a response from Tehran might be similar to the barrage of ballistic missiles and drones it launched against Israel on April 13. However, the scale might be much bigger as other Israeli enemies join forces.&nbsp;
