<p>Heavy rains lashed Bengaluru overnight on Tuesday (Oct 22) and&nbsp;resulted in a flood-like situation in many parts of the city, disrupting normal life. Rescue boats were seen navigating through the flooded streets as many residents were left stranded.</p>

<p>Areas including Yelahanka, Vidataranayapura, Jakkur, Kodigehalli and Horamavu in North Bengaluru received heavy downpours. Many homes were flooded in the region with up to six feet of water as the Doddabommasandra Lake breached. Rescue operations are carried out by NDRF and SDRF teams to evacuate the residents.</p>

<p>“One more compound wall has collapsed, and there’s way more water this time. We have been told to evacuate and NDRF boats are here. There will be no drinking water or power for the next 24-48 hours,” Amruth Kiran, a resident of Kendriya Vihar apartments at Yelahanka, told The Hindu.</p>

<p>According to the Northeast Bengaluru traffic police ACP, the service road from Kogilu Junction towards IAF has been closed for rescue operations.</p>

<p>Frustrated residents of Bengaluru took to social media, expressing their anger at the authorities for failing to manage the city’s infrastructure as the streets in several parts of the city are frequently waterlogged during the rainy season every year.</p>

<p>The weather department has predicted more rain with thunderstorms and cloudy sky till October 24.</p>

<p>The roads and residential accommodation of many places such as Koramangala, HSR Layout, Shantinagar, Wilson Garden, KR Puram, Anugraha Layout, Ulsoor, Vivek Nagar, Murugesh Palya on Old Airport Road and Gurappana Palya on Bannerghatta Road are&nbsp;submerged in knee-deep water.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Koramangala was the area worst-affected after the heavy rains.The government did not take any action to improve the flood-prone area even after the devastating floods in July 2016.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials have swung into action&nbsp;but&nbsp;residents are still claiming&nbsp;a lack of response from civic officials. Reports quoted one of the residents as saying&nbsp;that the officials took over four hours to reach after they were called.</p>

<p>Flooding in the city also disrupted Independence day celebrations at the Parade Ground. BBMP officials had to lay dry sand on the ground before conducting any event.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The havoc created by the floods on&nbsp;Independence day is a&nbsp;replica of what the city experienced in July last year.</p>

<p>However, civic officials deny&nbsp;that the present floods are at par with the July 2016 floods which had caused lakes to overflow. This is not the case now.</p>
