A group of female students from a university in Madhya Pradesh recently took out a formal protest against it. Holding placards and wearing beard wigs, they chanted against men having beards. The reason? They state that beards are a nuisance when it comes to kissing and cause chafing.&nbsp;

Onlookers standing by the road watched the protest in complete disbelief, giggling and making videos. The women held placards that read "no clean shave, no love" marching through the streets of Indore city in the state.

Other messages that caught the attention read, "Beard hatao ya Girlfriend Bhul jao" (Remove beard or forget about having a girlfriend) and "Beard hatao Pyaar Bachao" (Remove bears and save love).

What prompted the women to stage such a protest is not clear. People on the internet are dumbstruck to see such a strange incident in the city of Indore.

Bearded men are less likely to have a fast life history strategy (or seek numerous partners) and instead, they invest more in others both romantically and familially, Jonason told The Times UK.

The simple reasoning behind this is based on the care required to maintain a well-groomed beard, opined the study.

“Beards, as opposed to say stubble, are difficult and time-consuming to grow. Men with full beards may signal their disciplined nature,” Jonason said.

Although maintaining a clean-shaven face also requires the effort of frequent facial hair removal, more facial hair requires more effort to keep it clean, said study. Regular care of facial hair requires time, effort, and resources. Thus, facial hair enhancement motivation may be related to the desire to present oneself to other people as a well-organized person.

The study stressed that facial hair maintenance was a key point, as “growing bushy, unhealthy-looking, or dispersed facial hair may discredit a man rather than give him an advantage.”

The authors claim that it&nbsp;is “the first study on facial hair enhancement motivation in men,” and say further research is needed to examine the spectrum of facial hair types.

The overall point of the study was that “having more facial hair may be used by men to inform other people that their social motives shift from focusing on the mating market to focusing on long-term romantic relationships and family.”

A team of UK researchers have developed a beard covering technique for the bearded medical workers of the Sikh community to ensure that the Sikh doctors and medical experts do not have to trim their beards while catering to the needs of the patients.

"Because shaving was a mandatory pre-requisite for wearing respirator masks, many members of the faith-observant bearded community, such as Sikh, Jewish and Muslim, have been affected and have had to face the dilemma of redeployment from frontline healthcare jobs involving exposure to COVID-19," Randhawa said.

"In both of these scenarios, the common theme was that the beard was considered to be an impediment to the wearing of a respirator mask. The other common principle was the concern for the health and safety of the employee. There was no alternative choice, or maybe, it was unexplored," he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rajinder Pal Singh, who is based out of&nbsp;Manchester, also pitched the idea of having an under-mask beard cover, commonly known as 'thattha’, which can allow allow him to wear an FFP3 respirator mask. This innovative way of wearing an essential PPE for frontline medics of the minority communities was approved in the&nbsp;qualitative Fit Test by the UK's National Health Service (NHS).

Ten students of Jamia Millia Islamia University were allegedly asked to leave an NCC (National Cadet Corps) camp in Rohini for sporting beards.

The students protested on the university campus, calling their expulsion&nbsp;&quot;discrimination&quot;, and demanding that they be reinstated in the camp immediately.&nbsp;

The students say they were asked to leave the Rohini camp on Sunday night after they refused to shave their beards.&nbsp;

One of the protesting students was quoted as saying:&nbsp;&ldquo;A total of 35 students from the JMI had joined the 10-day camp on December 19, of which ten of us sport a beard. We were repeatedly asked to shave to which we denied as it is against our religious beliefs. We were finally thrown out of the camp.&quot;

NCC officials say cadets other than Sikhs are forbidden from growing beards during camps.

A senior official responded to the accusations and said, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a part of NCC&rsquo;s code of conduct and not any discrimination. Nobody was asked to leave the camp.&quot;

The students continued their&nbsp;protest till Monday evening demanding the suspension of Jamia&rsquo;s NCC in-charge Rajnish Kumar.

They also met Vice-Chancellor Talat Ahmad and urged him to take immediate action against Kumar.

A similar issue was brought to light in August 2015 when the Andhra Pradesh Minorities Commission&nbsp;issued a notice to the NCC director-general seeking an explanation on a circular issued two years ago which forbade cadets, other than Sikhs, from growing beards.

The commission, in December that year,&nbsp;asked the defence ministry to make the exemption&nbsp;granted to the Sikh community applicable to Muslims&nbsp;too.

The matter is still under examination.&nbsp;
