Shave or shoo off: Indian women protest against the beard citing hassles while kissing

Men with beards are often seen as hot and desirable, as it makes them look more masculine. However, a group of women in the Indian city of Indore are strongly against their men sporting beards.

A group of female students from a university in Madhya Pradesh recently took out a formal protest against it. Holding placards and wearing beard wigs, they chanted against men having beards. The reason? They state that beards are a nuisance when it comes to kissing and cause chafing.

Onlookers standing by the road watched the protest in complete disbelief, giggling and making videos. The women held placards that read "no clean shave, no love" marching through the streets of Indore city in the state.

Other messages that caught the attention read, "Beard hatao ya Girlfriend Bhul jao" (Remove beard or forget about having a girlfriend) and "Beard hatao Pyaar Bachao" (Remove bears and save love).

What prompted the women to stage such a protest is not clear. People on the internet are dumbstruck to see such a strange incident in the city of Indore.

Some of them slammed the women for asking the men to shave their beards by reiterating the famous slogan "My Body My Choice", which is usually linked to women's rights to choose.

Men with beards are better partners, study says

While women in Indore are demanding men to remove their beards if they wish to have a lovelife, a recent study stated that men with beards are more stable in romantic relationships and prove better partners.

A study published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour states that such men are not seeking new relationships and are great at holding onto the ones they have. The opposite is true of clean-shaven men, it says.

Study co-author Professor Peter Jonason, from Warsaw’s University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, says that "bearded men are in it for keeps" and invest more in others both romantically and familially.

This is because having a beard requires work and maintenance, which proves that such men are more disciplined. The study admits that staying clean shaved also requires work, but having a beard means spending more time, effort and resources to maintain it.
