The Bangladeshi official also met General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan.
Officials from both sides reaffirmed their commitment to protect their ties from &lsquo;external disruptions&rsquo; and to promote regional peace.
Notably, the Bangladeshi army official expressed his &lsquo;deep admiration&rsquo; for Pakistan Army&rsquo;s &lsquo;fight against terrorism&rsquo; and their &lsquo;professionalism.&rsquo;
This comes as Pakistan&rsquo;s neighbours Afghanistan and India have accused Islamabad in recent days of providing safe haven to ISIS terrorists.
Abbas Stanekzai, the Taliban's deputy foreign minister, last week claimed that the Pakistani Army was providing training to ISIS fighters.

According to a report by Reuters, Army Chief Gen. Waker-Uz-Zaman told his generals to exercise patience and avoid open firing on civilians. Zaman then went to the PM’s official residence and made it clear the army wouldn’t be able to implement the lockdown as desired.

The withdrawal of the army’s support is considered one of the key factors that led to the collapse of Hasina's 15-year rule, forcing her to flee to India.

The nationwide curfew was imposed after 91 people were killed in protests on Sunday (Aug 4).

Reuters quoted three former senior Bangladesh army officers as saying that mounting civilian deaths made it untenable for the army officials to blindly follow Hasina’s orders.

"There was a lot of uneasiness within the troops," said retired Brig. Gen. M. Sakhawat Hossain. "That is what probably (put) pressure on the chief of army staff, because the troops are out and they are seeing what is happening," he added.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. Sami Ud Dowla Chowdhury later confirmed in a public statement that the chief told officers to protect civilian lives and not forcefully suppress the demonstrations.

All the three services of the Bangladesh Armed Forces had played a key role in securing independence for their country in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.

The representatives of the battalions that participated in Liberation War, like 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11 East Bengal Regiment and 1, 2 and 3 Field Regiment Artillery, marched in the parade.

Bangladesh Navy had successfully conducted Operation Jackpot during the War, destroying 26 enemy ships in sea ports and river ports. The Air Force conducted 50 successful air strikes on the enemy targets during the War as part of "Kilo Flight" from the base in Dimapur, India.

The contingent marched to the song of "Shono Ekti Mujibur-er theke lokkho Mujibur", meaning "Listen, the voice of Mujibur which has been multiplied by hundred thousands of his followers", played by the marching band led by Lieutenant Colonel Banazir Ahmed.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, popularly known as Bangabondhu, was the central figure behind the Bangladesh Liberation Movement and the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.

Rahman, also known as 'Father of the Nation', served as the first President of Bangladesh and later as the Prime Minister from April 17, 1971 until his assassination on August 15, 1975.

India was the first country to recognise Bangladesh as a separate and independent state and established diplomatic relations with the country immediately after its independence in December 1971.

Bangladesh Army marches with Indian soldiers in Republic Day parade

The ninth&nbsp;edition of India and Bangladesh military training called 'Sampriti IX' began&nbsp;in Umroi, Meghalaya.&nbsp;

The training commenced on Monday and its main focus is counter-terrorism on difficult terrains like mountains and jungles.

Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Field Training Exercise (FTX) will be conducted in the 14-days training schedule. For both the CPX and FTX, a scenario where both the nations are working together in a counter-terrorism environment will be simulated under the United Nations charter.

The Bangladesh Army's contingent is under the command of Commander Md. Shafiul Azam. The contingent is Bangladesh's 42nd infantry regiment. Indian Army's Bihar regiment will take part in the training, the regiment is led by Brigadier Rajesh Sharma.&nbsp;

Each side comprises 128 jawans, 12 officers and 10 junior commission officers (JCOs).

The FTX training's curriculum is steadily planned where the participants will initially get familiar with each other's organisational structure and tactical drills.

Subsequently, joint tactical exercise will be conducted wherein the battle drills of both Indian and Bangladeshi armies will be practised.

 
The training will end with a final validation activity in which troops of both armies will jointly practice a counter-terrorist operation in a controlled and simulated environment.

In addition, to understand each other at a tactical level, greater cultural understanding will be emphasised to increase military trust and partnership between the two countries.

This exercise will conclude on February 16.

The ninth edition of India and Bangladesh military training called 'Sampriti IX' began in Umroi, Meghalaya. Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Field Training Exercise (FTX) will be conducted in the 14-days training schedule. For both the CPX and FTX, a scenario where both the nations are working together in a counter-terrorism environment will be simulated under the United Nations charter. The Bangladesh Army's contingent is under the command of Commander Md. Shafiul Azam. The contingent is Bangladesh's 42nd infantry regiment. Indian Army's Bihar regiment will take part in the training, the regiment is led by Brigadier Rajesh Sharma. Each side comprises 128 jawans, 12 officers and 10 junior commission officers (JCOs). The FTX training's curriculum is steadily planned where the participants will initially get familiar with each other's organisational structure and tactical drills. Subsequently, joint tactical exercise will be conducted wherein the battle drills of both Indian and Bangladeshi armies will be practised. The training will end with a final validation activity in which troops of both armies will jointly practice a counter-terrorist operation in a controlled and simulated environment. In addition, to understand each other at a tactical level, greater cultural understanding will be emphasised to increase military trust and partnership between the two countries. The Bangladesh Army on Saturday sharply reacted to the comment made by a pro-opposition rights activist questioning the military chief's integrity and called it a deliberate attempt to belittle the force's top position and bring down the morale of its personnel.&nbsp;

Dr Jafarulah Chowdhury,75, during a talk show of Somoy TV on October 9 stated that a huge quantum of military weapons and ammunitions "went missing, were stolen or sold out" from the army's arsenal in north-eastern Chattogram area when the incumbent army chief General Aziz Ahmed was the commander.

Chowdhury, who is also a doctor and the founder of non-government Ganashasthya Kendra hospital and medical college, said that the incident exposed Aziz to a court-martial.

Chowdhury is currently spearheading a media campaign accusing the incumbent government of misrule and politicising the administration ahead of the elections slated for December this year.

The army called Chowdhury's comment completely untrue, misleading and motivated and aimed to belittle a state organisation like the Army before the people, apart from affecting Ahmed's personal reputation, social status and his official position.

"In a different way it misled every serving military personnel and affected negatively their morale. Besides such a misleading campaign harmed the solidarity and unity of a disciplined force like army which is unexpected," said the Army in a statement.

"It was an untrue and irresponsible comment . . . Because General Aziz in his service life never served as the GOC or commandant of Chattogram," the statement said.

It also mentioned that Ahmed never faced any court martial in his career.&nbsp;

"It is especially mentionable that present Chief of Army Staff Aziz Ahmed did never face any court-martial during his long colourful army career," the statement said.&nbsp;
