<p>Scores of people had earlier assembled at the Gateway of India demanding action against the perpetrators of the JNU violence. The protesters also called for the resignation of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister&nbsp;Amit Shah.</p>

<p>The mayhem began at Sabarmati Hostel, where the mob vandalised the structures, broke into the hostel rooms, and thrashed the students.</p>

<p>The Delhi police have <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/jnu-violence-most-clinching-we-are-moving-towards-anarchy-p-chidambaram-272576">garnered criticism</a> for not taking any action while the events unfolded in the university.</p>

<p>Additionally, the Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognizance of the brutal attack on female students and faculty members inside the campus.</p>

<p>Kapil Agarwal, a protester said, ''We were forcibly shifted here to Azad Maidan by Police. But now we have called off our 'occupy Gateway of India' protests, it was a successful protest. Our resistance will continue, we have a long line up of programs''.<br />

Students from IIT Bombay, TISS, and members of students' organisations, including the ASFI, sloganeered against the government and called for immediate action. Songs like 'Hum dekhenge', 'Hum honge kamyab' and 'Sarfaroshi ki tamanna' were echoed throughout the protest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thousands of farmers under the aegis of Lok Sangharsh Morcha on Thursday marched towards Azad Maidan here to press for their demands, which include farmland ownership and implementation of Forest Rights Act.</p>

<p>Farmers from across Maharashtra, beginning their march on Tuesday, reached Byculla Bridge in the city on Thursday morning. They are also scheduled to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis later in the evening. There are also likely to take up the issue of loan waiver.</p>

<p>Speaking to ANI, general secretary of the Lok Sangharsh Morcha Pratibha Shinde said, "We will definitely meet the Chief Minister and put forward our demands. Only after the meeting, we will be able to decide whether the government and we are on the same page or not. In the last six months, the government has not even done even two per cent of the works they promised to us."</p>

<p>On Wednesday evening, Maharashtra's Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Girish Mahajan met the protesters and asked them to hold a meeting with Chief Minister Fadnavis to which the farmers agreed. Last night, farmers had stayed at Shivaji Maidan in Chunabhatti.</p>

<p>The organisation, which wants milk to be purchased at Rs 27 per litre by dairies and chilling plants, started the agitation in Aurangabad two days ago, a senior functionary said.</p>

<p>Ajit Navale, general secretary of the Maharashtra State Kisan Sabha said that it had now decided to intensify its protest.</p>

<p>"We plan to hold a similar agitation at the gates of the Mantralaya (state secretariat) if the state government refuses to address our demands. We want milk to be purchased by dairies and chilling plants at Rs 27 per litre," Navale said.</p>

<p>He said that the state, which had earlier announced a procurement rate of Rs 27, must enforce it since the buyers were not following it.</p>

<p>"The current rates are causing losses to those involved in milk production," Navale said.</p>

<p>After resting for nearly three hours at Somaiya ground, they started marching towards Azad Maidan at 1 am.</p>

<p>Today, they plan to surround the state assembly to press for their demands for a complete loan waiver, fair pay and transfer of adivasi land to farmers who have been tilling it for years.&nbsp;</p>
