Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rose to a record high in the early hours of trade on Friday. In the initial trade, Sensex hit a record high of 41, 809.

Sensex hits all-time high of 41,798, Nifty at a record peak of 12,272

The Nifty ended 0.31 per cent higher at 12,259.70, while the Sensex gained 0.28 per cent to close at 41,673.92. The Nifty IT index climbed 0.7 per cent, while the auto and energy index rose about 1 per cent.

Equity benchmark indices plunged further in the afternoon on Friday with selling pressure across the board amid concerns over growth and earnings recovery. At 1:30pm, the BSE S&P Sensex was down 505 points at 38,392 while the Nifty lost 154 points at 11,441.
