<p>A 95-year-old woman died at an Australian hospital, days after she was allegedly tasered by a police officer at an aged care facility in Cooma town in New South Wales about 114 km south of the national capital Canberra.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The lady, identified as Clare Nowland, was confirmed dead on Wednesday, May 24.</p>

<p>Senior constable Kristian White, 33, is accused of tasering the deceased lady. White is due to appear in court for the offences of assault, occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm. This&nbsp;can carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.</p>

<p>White is due to appear at Cooma local court on July 5 but the constable continues to remain out of jail.</p>

<p>Clare Nowland was allegedly tasered by police after she was found armed with a steak knife at Yallambee Lodge aged care facility in Cooma, Guardian reported.</p>

<p>The New South Wales police commissioner, Karen Webb, said Nowland’s family was informed of the charges related to the incident.</p>

<p>"The Nowland family have been informed of this development and our prayers and thoughts are with Mrs Nowland," she said.</p>

<p>The dementia patient sustained critical injuries, including a fractured skull in the incident.</p>

<p>Webb, who has refused requests to release bodycam footage of the incident, said she would not view it herself until investigators had finished gathering evidence.</p>

<p>"This has been traumatic for everyone in the police force,"&nbsp;she said.</p>

<p>"The community of New South Wales have trust in their police force … this is one incident out of over two&nbsp;million calls for assistance we get every year"</p>

<p>It has been revealed that the charges against the accused could be upgraded based on Nowland's condition as a dementia patient.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Webb said the charges could be upgraded based on Nowland’s condition.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She, however, defended suspending White from duty without pay, stating that people are innocent until proven guilty.</p>

<p>"He is afforded the same opportunity as any other resident and his employment will continue to be reviewed, but at the moment he’s still suspended from the workplace," she said.</p>
